fragileShAmyheart Posted February 8, 2016 Posted February 8, 2016 (edited) I had lots of apprehensions when I read the TR but it wasn't as serious as I expected. Lots of angst and debates were thrown before it aired. I was just disappointed that the ShAmy storyline is poorly written, more so that Meemaw is here. We were given this legendary character whom we felt excited of seeing but was just put to waste - basically a let down. The thought that she can sit on Sheldon's spot but 'Amy never will' still bothers me. Also, I don't like the fact that Sheldon didn't decide for himself to defend his girlfriend from his Meemaw. We've seen a lot of growth from Sheldon since their breakup but here he is again being immature and ignoring the real issue. Maybe it's the longing for a ShAmy moment from the past two episodes talking but I never expected the appearance of Meemaw to be so underwhelming. And the ring... I was looking forward for the proposal in the most Sheldon way possible but its reappearance made me throw away all those fantasies. I feel empty inside. I thought that Laura Spencer already became a regular on the show so I don't know what to say about the new girl in Raj's life. I kinda learned to like Emily too so I hope they won't write her off just like that. Lenny and Howardette looks stronger than ever. Love how they act as a team. And Bernie with 'the face' - LOL Edited February 8, 2016 by fragileShAmyheart

Sometimes I remind myself that one of the creators of TBBT also worked on The Muppets. I liked the Muppets too but never expected it to be life like. RoRo Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 I watched this episode again and when Amy said she was Sheldons best shot I wished she would have said "Sheldon is a man not a child and I can give him things that you can't like sex" LOL wishful thinking on my part I guess

Also, Bernadette already had a similar conversation with Howard (that she can give Howard sexual intercourse and his mom can't) when they thought Mrs. Wolowitz had a heart attack rather than food poisoning. With four couples, it has to be difficult to find unique ways to present similar material.
vasu Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) I know it is quite common for leonard to be sidelined..... but penny also being sidelined... wow.... they barely had anything to do the whole episode...... lol Edited February 10, 2016 by vasu

I love Shamy...but I miss them. Maybe tptb kinda struggles what to do with them, what with giving screen time to some 'meh' plots. Jonny Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Good to finally put a face to Sheldon's beloved grandmother, man she is pretty fiery. Some further examples of how Sheldon has changed, years ago he would have sided with his grandmother 100% during that heated argument between the pair of them. Man Raj has become such a douche. Stephen Hawking Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Just watched it. Overall, not a bad episode, but I really didn't like Meemaw. As for the Raj story, it just came across as "the grass is always greener".
JohnPhD Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I just rewatched 804 because Kathy2611 pointed out it contained dialogue relevant to the discussion of 913. In another scene, Penny, re her relationship with Emily, says that nobody would tell you to your face that they don't like you. Amy says "you and I have led very different lives" and goes on to imply that people have often told her to her face that they don't like her. Sure enough, in 914 Meemaw says to Amy "I don't like you". Careful planning or lucky coincidence?

I wouldn't say the show has stopped being funny (far from it) but this episode was more drama than comedy. You had the whole Amy and Meemaw confrontation with Sheldon in the middle of it and Raj being a douchebag. I think they tried to split the episode into drama/comedy but it didn't work for me as I find Raj's behavior not that funny to be honest. I would say the show stopped being funny at least 2 or 3 seasons ago and this episode is a perfect example It's like an 'ongoing drama' (soap opera) these days; such a shame how it's gone and I can't think of a laugh out loud episode since about season
