Episode 3.20 (May 3)

Recommended Posts

So many who liked this episode?? I'm not going to rewatch it, I'm seriously disappointed.

It had some good dialogues, Sheldon telling Penny about coitus, Howard telling Sheldon about picking teams - but the whole fight between Leonard and Penny over Sheldon was ridiculous. The idea was certainly good, but Sheldon going to Disneyland??? C'MON! The same Sheldon that hates crowds and wouldn't go to Las Vegas??? The same Sheldon that is paranoid about his hygiene now spending an entire day with PENNY's friends??? The same Sheldon that hated bouncy castles when he was a child, now going to ride the matterhorn??? No way. Bad writing, really really bad writing!

The crowd argument i agree but why you assumed that Penny friends are dirty ? She says that "a bunch us from work will go to Disneyland", knowing that the Cheesecake Factory only have waitresses and not any waiter that means only her female friends, i don't think they are dirty, if only were Penny male friends ok but is not. And i totally see a physicist loving rollercoasters. They are all about physics ! (and puking, lol)

I have to agree that this episode was very weak. The entire thing was written for a single punch-line: Leonard and Penny are going to be friends and Sheldon is going to be the "child" over whom they share custody. It's a one-joke episode that not only hammers that one joke way past the point of being funny but also ignores the characterizations that have been created over three seasons.

Let's face it, Penny comes across in this story arc as being incredibly shallow and fickle. I wanted to believe differently. However, I guess that's the Penny we came to know in seasons one and two, basically a "bimbo" going through men left and right and then seeking out consolation sex to ease the hurt. She hasn't changed, it would seem. And now Leonard is the latest casualty of her brutal lack of true feelings. Makes me start to reevaluate her previous relationships ... who was really the villain in the Mike breakup at the end of season one?

'wow' is it just the name Penny you don't like? it is a light hearted show there is no way they could have gone to deep into the Penny and Leonard to see what is behind the break up I think that will come out in season 4 and no I have no info it's just the way I see it as for Sheldon acting the way he did I think he is trying to keep both Penny and Leonard happy at the same time

couldn't disagree more. I really feel that you really don't understand the show. It's exactly against that stupid stereotype people have about "bimbos" (how i hate this word and all the machismo it contains) and nerds. Change your title to Steve The Misogynist :icon_frown:

Back to the Penny-Leonard-centric episodes. Sheldon being a child. All the ingedients I dont like in an episode. I thought it was the worst since episode 3. No laughs for me in this one. Hopefully that's the Leonard-Penny storylines out of their system for a while.

Again I can't buy for one second that Leonard would be ready to be friends with her again so quickly. She rejected him in almost the worst way possible. Leonard told her that he loved her and not only does she not say it back but she dumps him at the end.

Sheldon has no particular respect for Penny, I highly doubt that he'd spent an entire day with her friends, he's normally not into socialising. That's what I meant.

Penny comes across in this story arc as being incredibly shallow and fickle.

You really think you have to explain the show to STEVE??? LOL! Welcome to the Forum!

Besides, just watch the opening scene of the last episode and tell me that Penny wasn't portrait as a stupid blonde! Agree with Steve, we haven't seen the best of Penny in this episode, but so it was with Sheldon. It was really a case for out-of-character writing for me!

TOTALLY AGREE!

LOL If you knew me, you'd know that "misogynist" is about the last title anyone would give me.

I stand by my dismay over the way the character is being portrayed ... all the work they did to toss the "bimbo" stereotype on its head in the show has been undone in the last few episodes. Why was Penny with Leonard at all if she had such shallow feelings for him? She's treating him like dirt and doesn't seem all that upset about it, just uncomfortable that they have to be in the same apartment building to remind her of the consequences of her actions. She can't just throw an iPod out the window and call him names, then storm off. Hopefully this will turn into an opportunity for her to do some self-analysis and realize that her pattern of treating men the way she does is going to leave her, well, pathetic and alone. Funny, isn't that the way she described Howard's fate?

One thing that you are not considering is the time that have passed since they broke, a data that the show does not reveal. Penny was pretty upset at the end of the bowling revenge, and remembering Sheldon is a bad loser (just remember how sad he was after lost the cricket bet) i guess it has probably three, four weeks that they are apart. And she was ignoring him just to don't hurt him even more (see how awkawrd she is in even staying too much in Leonard's apartment.

Sorry if i offended you calling you a misogynist but i do think you judged too hard this character, who is so sweet and comprehensible.

And you didn't mean that but thank you for the welcome. LOL

I don't think Penny is supposed to be portrayed as a shallow stupid blonde...Isn't the whole point of the show to knock down stereotypes? Maybe she's not the most educated, but she's very down to earth and street smart, she's got intellect the boys lack. Just as they open up Penny's mind, she opens up theirs. She's more than just a 'hot girl' to them.

Are you intentionally twisting my words? I said the last episode portrayed Penny in a rather bad light. E.g. "damn they canceled my visa, oh look a new master card".

"Oh, Leonard has been crying, really??".

And I blame the writers for that "flatness" of Penny's character in THIS episode, because it disagrees with what we've seen in the last three seasons.

So she's been sleeping with a guy for almost a year and suddenly pretends she doesn't have any feelings for him and wonders that he's upset when she breaks up with him after he confessed his love??? THAT's what I call shallow character depiction. The Penny we've seen in the seasons before wasn't stupid or shallow. The Penny seen in the last episode, was! Noone expected her to reply with "I love you" if she was scared of the word and needed more time. She could have simply explained her feelings to Leonard.

But breaking up after having sex for almost a year just because your boyfriend says "I love you" .... that's just a really flat character to me.

Yep, that's my problem with these two last episodes as well. It just doens't make sense. It's a break up forced upon us by the writers to create some new tension - will they, won't they - without having an understandable reason.

I do agree that the Leonard/Penny breakup really doesn't seem to have strong motives behind it.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say I have mixed feelings about them being together in the first place. I have only been a fan since this season so I bought the other 2 seasons on DVD and I think that I enjoyed their relationship more when Leonard was pinning away for her in unrequited love. But seeing the episodes where they are together as a couple I really think the two of them lack chemistry together.

So, one the one hand, I hate to see them heart broken, but on the other hand I really think the show works better with them apart.

No, sorry, I really didn't understood if was the 20th or the 19th episode. Now i do see your point and I have to agree. It was a little forced. My first wish in all this debate was to defend Penny, who is a character that I care so much. Sorry again if I was too harsh, it's just my passionate way of arguing.

That was a cute scene when penny and Sheldon had dinner together, but what was up with raj are they trying to make him creppy, plus at the end where Leonard to penny we could be friends that have sex that made it sound like that's all he'd miss or that's all he wanted from her even though that's all they did most of the time.

For the above comments about penny and Leonard, if he hadn't acted like a jerk and a child and not so pushy towards penny did you want her to say it and not mean it, then she wouldn't have broken up with him even if that wasn't a good reason to break up, if he had just drop it and waited for her when the time was right for her, I don't think she was in love with him but has strong feelings and you can sleep with someone for almost a year and not be in love since that's mostly all of their scenes were anyways, plus look at the air dates people since the previous episode it was at least a few weeks it wasn't the following week and even if it was in tv land it probably would have been a couple weeks since she broke up, penny doesn't treat guys like dirt it's the other way around that's why she was with Leonard in the first place
