But let me say on this occasion, though I'm a Lenny shipper from the bottom of my heart, I also (still) like the show as a whole and all (well maybe not Raj ) its characters and couples. The mushroom log wasn't a hit with her and neither was the DVD of one of his lectures. Awww the mushroom log, I'm still a huge fan of it:-) Didn't he also once give her the whole set of ST-TNG dvds so that she could learn to appreciate Wesley Crusher? I don't think she was too fond of that, too...
Jonny
Pretty sure most people aren't dissing any of the gifts (snowflake, star jewelry that had been to space and the MRI) though some and I think this perfectly reasonable and fair may have a preference or what they might like more if they were the ones in that situation and received one of those gifts. Each person is different. I think all three examples were perfect gifts for their partners and an expression of their love for them.

Each person is diferent and each couple from tbbt has their own universe where what makes sense for ones, doesnt make sense for others. For exemple, I thought it was cute the pink power range Leonard gave to Penny. My opinion might be in minority but well, I loved Leonard face as he gave it to her. Because I enjoy to see Leonard and Penny interacting together alone.  Was there the gift important? No but there are lots of them that Penny enjoyed and it is what matters in end. The way I interpreted the latest TR was that Penny and Leonard made an agreement to both work harder at their marriage. I guess we will have to see how it plays out. kimbee73
I love coming on to this forum in the morning and seeing what is being debated next. Yesterday it was kisses today it is gifts. I like this one so I will weigh in my opinion. I actually loved the snowflake and the star necklace. They may have been cliché but they were romantically them. I know I would have loved gifts like that from my husband/boyfriend. I liked the MRI and yes Sheldon could have gotten that any time he wanted and the others will never go to the North Pole or space again which makes their gifts more unique, I agree. To be honest I thought his gift of making Amy his emergency contact was more romantic because he wanted her to be the first one contacted in case of emergency, not Leonard or Penny or his mom or meemaw(yes I know they are in Texas) but Amy. Granted I know at the end of that episode he was calling for her in non-emergencies but still I think it is more romantic than the MRI. Do I believe him when he says he was thinking about her when it lit up, of course because we all know how bad a liar Sheldon is and I do think Amy thought it was romantic so that is all that matters really. Do I think she would find a stick that Sheldon picked up in the backyard and gave to her romantic absolutely not. She hated the mushroom log and we all know that. No Regrets
I like that we can all enjoy the show for different reasons. It'd be boring if we all loved the same things.

And what I most enjoy is to find those litle details about the characters that I missed in a scene or because I have never thought about certain characters's traits much. I have changed my mind sometimes because I was not thinking about all things related with an event that happened in a life of a character or a couple. Other times is interisting to know diferents point of views of the things. Some I dont agree but is also good to know why some things I think they are good or bad to a character but for others work in a diferente way. If I didnt like to discuss things, I would not be here. I find it interesting that no one has mentioned (I believe)  the Tiara, a trinket that Amy thoroughly loved. The afternoon tea when all three of them are wearing their SO's trinkets in the hotel is still a favourite situation.

Oh I love the tiara scene but let's face it, Sheldon did that so Amy wouldn't be mad any more. She loved it, I know that, but was it romantic? I don't know if I would consider it romantic. It was all the eulogising about the gifts and their meanings and responses, that was one of Amy's most expressive responses ever and everyone seemed to have bypassed it. Romantic or not I think you can safely say she loved receiving a piece of jewellery.

Any woman in love with Howard or Leonard would have found their gifts acceptable and romantic. Only Amy would have so much appreciated what Sheldon gave her. Granted, so many of Sheldon's gifts to Amy are about himself, ( not that the star pendant and the snowflake weren't a little about Howard and Leonard ) but they also show how much Sheldon 'gets'  how she feels about him and he knows what of him she would like to have. A scan of his brain when he's thinking of her no other partner would be so happy about. He knows she loves brains and he knows she loves him and would want to see his brain lit up when he thinks of her. I agree. Its not so much the item being given but the meaning behind it-that they were thinking of the ladies. When Leonard came up with the snowflake idea he was away on a long trip and the snowflake represented his thoughts of her, and bringing back a peice of his trip to her. In Howard's case he was deep in thought about the looming trip to space, yet he still had Bernie in his thoughts and found a cute way of bringing back a peice of that trip to Bernie in the form of a "star" that was in space. Sheldon's gift was pretty literal, a snapshot of his brain while thinking of Amy. The fact that Amy is a neurobiologist takes the gift from being "cute" to being an awesome nod to her passion for her profession. Lets face it, when we all give someone a unique gift we're secretly a little proud of ourselves for going the extra mile, its human nature. But nonetheless it certainly doesnt diminish the thought and effort behind the gift and the pleasure it gives to the recepient. Those of us on the forum suggesting Sheldon's MRI gift is more about him are, IMO, missing the bigger picture.
