[Spoilers] Discussion: Season 10

Recommended Posts

yep, its on the coattails of Penny's complaining (Amy being sad about no ring yet)....I mean in Amy's eyes Penny has had multiple engagements/weddings/etc....so woe is me, I cannot even get 1 engagement and we've been living together blissfully for a while now...she probably expected it to happen soon after (and do you blame her)...but in time sweetie...At least we know she's still a def YES (although we never thought otherwise).

I think Penny just doesn't know what she wants.  Last year she wanted her youth...now she's sorta jealous of Bernadette...she wants her own house.  has a good paying job yet complains about it.....sounds like Penny is headed to go awall....NOW if season 11 ends SHE may be the one to go nuts....if season 10 is the end, they can wrap that arc up BUT as a viewer I like where this could be going.  And I think it was Chuck or Steve who said there was more work to be done with the Penny character so its a real limbo there.  But the payoff could be sweet

and how cute of Sheldon to eagerly want to share the train experience with only Amy (to an annoying degree).  And the fantasy...that we'll discuss in the shamy thread after I brush my teeth....

Really nice of you to share, but the first thing that comes to my mind after reading the TR is that Lenny will be written out from the show.

Now when Penny want's a house and babies, it is very easy for the writers to move them to house and we will never see them again.

This is just a thought nothing else.

I don't think they'll go there, but to be honest with you, I didn't understand Penny in this one (and probably even in some of the previous episodes...) I mean, who exactly prevents her from having a house, a kid or both if she wants? She is complaining about things which are entirely in her (and Leonard's, of course) power, and acting as if life has been mean to her not giving her what she wants. I think it's an arc which should lead somewhere; again, I don't think it will end up with Lenny out of the show, but I have no idea where it will go...

But more Penny woe is me (so its an arc for sure)

I wouldn't consider her feeling pressured to have a house and start a family as "woe". I guess things just didn't progress as fast as she imagined it would with Leonard. I'm glad the girls took that pressure off of her though.

Edit: Can't see any correlations with previous episodes whatsoever.

I think the writers just don't care. Who needs continuity after all? I'm at a point where they can have Penny fall madly in love with a goat and have Leonard move to Mars.

The correlations is Penny complaining about parts of her life.  And while it was Bernie's night out sans baby, Penny sorta made it all about her (which Amy then takes).  If I were Bernie I would have smacked them both...but I digress.

I think this season they are drilling home the fact that clearly Penny is unhappy.  She complains about her job, her husband, jealous of friends, etc....and this has been going on for a while now.  Couple that with either Molaro or Chuck who said they aren't done with the Penny character yet, I think something big is on the horizon.  And it could add spice to her and then her marriage.

I didn't take she felt "pressured" from the report, more like she wish she had that, but then last year she wished for her youth...she is clearly very confused to me and I hope its on purpose because the payoff could be great.

The writers have opened Pandora's box with Penny over the last few seasons, don't waste it and work on the character dammit, make it a character I personally want to root for like the rest (a character I used to enjoy in the first few seasons).  And the fact that this is now 4 episodes in a row with Penny unhappy about something its an arc....which means in my mind that S11 is likely....JMO of course.

Thanks @mirs1:)

Just saw a workout video of Jim doing sleds on IG as posted by his LA trainer, woo-hoo , now , I would love to see shirtless Jim pouring water over his head SLOW MOTION  style !! ..if that is indeed true,....the tag scene will be fun and hot!  Lol.

The rest of the episode sounds okay, but will have to see once it airs. But does not seem like a valentine's day episode.oh well.

Right, because Howardette has a house and a baby and they've been written off.

disagree.... Howardette has FAR been written off... I'll give you Raj has had nothing, but every week Howardette has a plot.

Like @kerrycec03 said it sure sounds like Penny doesn't know what she wants, just imo but her character seems to be a bit all over the place. Sounds like she is having a bit of a mid life crisis and I am not exactly sure why. Like I said earlier I don't see anything bad for them (Lenny), just wondering what the writers have planned.

Don't think they are having these storylines to write them out of the show at all, though the whole house thing could just be a backup storyline or laying the groundwork for if the show actually does end this season. I always thought that at the end of the show Leonard might end up getting an academic job elsewhere (Penny perhaps getting a promotion in the company based in the same area as Leonard's new job) and them moving out of the area.

If the writers are actually (if that is what they are doing) laying down some storylines just in case the show ends it is actually quite prudent.

To me the woe is me is believable with Amy not Penny. Amy is at the mercy of Sheldon and what he wants to do. Penny on the otherhand controls Lennies relationship. Always has and probably always will. Leonard has proven over and over he will do whatever Penny wants. It's up to Penny to decide what she wants

Could this whole thing with Penny be a bit of a messy way of sorting out her career? We all know the writers talked about perhaps revisiting her career at some point. Sometimes you can have issues in one part of your life that impact other aspects of life and in some weird ways. If Penny is suddenly unhappy at work again and is bottling it up I could totally see it bleeding into and affecting her home life.

she seems unhappy in all aspects currently and yea, it probably stemmed from work.  And this year seeing Amy being woed, Bernadette being doted on by 3 men......I'm sure it hasn't been easy (and its actually believeable---woman are very envious of each other---I say that as a proud woman lol).

I just think we know the writers love the Penny character so I hope they do a total revamp.  Its possible with great payoffs.

Penny's been complaining about her life since... ever, and they never really did anything with it. In earlier seasons it was all about her career that was going nowhere and partly about Leonard, continuing through season six and seven. In season nine she wished her life was simpler and started to hate her new career, which is, again, something they never picked up again. Now she wants her marriage with Leonard to progress further. That's a completely new thing we never heard about, so I can't see how that's supposed to be part of an existing arc. And if you think she's unhappy, based on the fact that she wants her marriage to progress, you'll also have to say that Amy is unhappy because she's not engaged yet, because Penny is basically saying what Amy says. The only difference is that Penny is married and Amy is not, but they both thought their relationships would be "farther along by now".

"Penny insists she not jealous and understands but feels pressured because her and Leonard don’t own a home …yadda yadda her life feels incomplete."

That's what the TR says.

We differ because to me its clearly an arc with the Penny character.

And yes, it says Penny says "pressure" but its all her, nobody is putting that on her to our knowledge.  Its clearly she doesn't know what she wants.

And I agree, the Penny character has always been complaining BUT lately its harsher.

I think arc, you think no....we'll see where it goes then.....

Part of me hopes that this is an arc and part of me doesn't because it's very unclear to me where they're going with Penny. My fear is that it's unclear to the writers as well. First Penny says all she needs to be happy is Leonard, then she says she's unhappy with her job, now it's her marriage. Make up your mind already, you're a grown woman.

It could be so that if we get a season 11, this Penny arc will be dropped by the writers.

Oh boy, I can't wait.   The fourth episode in a row with an unhappy Penny.   This is what I want to see.  You writers are doing such a great job.

Oh, by the way, now Sheldon is not just an expert of relation-ship trouble:
"I’m an engineer now."

That’s also the fun to beat! :icon_wink:

Just some wild speculation from my side noting else.

This is actually the way I see it, either Leonard and Penny won't be on the show next season or there isn't going to be a next season.

I disagree. My guess is simply that she's just feeling pressured to buy a house and start a fam, now that Howard and Bernadette do the same, just because she's married. But at the same time, she knows neither of them is ready to take these steps. And the girls make her appreciate what she already has. Sometimes people need a little heads up. We'll see how it turns out, but I don't think it's a big deal.

In any case, it's not even a tiny bit of the armageddon people were expecting last night.

Reading the TR, it seems that there is no Lenny scenes at all in this last taped episode.
