Penny has had her slobby moments. Cheetos in her hair, having to stop to buy clean underwear on the way out with Amy and Bernadette. For the most part she does take care of herself and try to look good. Considering how long she made her way through life on her looks that is not surprising.

IMO the Leonard story line is exaggerated when it comes to 'letting himself go'. JG, and subsequently, Leonard is in better than average condition. Within the context of the show none of the guys do anything that could be considered physical exercise. Doing so would be totally OOC for any of them. Leonard's attitude toward the relationship may have slipped a bit, but physically he is the same guy he's always been.

I think a better example would be Don Knotts, and Barney Fife.  He won FIve Emmys(3 in the first five years) for the character, and never really had anything else on TV, until Mr Furley on Three's Company, which was a very similar role to Barney.  He starred in several films, but again, the characters were all variations on Barney.

 There is a great example of typecasting.  Remember, type casting isn't the actor's inability to perform in different roles, it's the producers and casting agents inability to see them as anything else.

No . i disagree. Penny clearly puts more effort than Leonard in her physical appearance. I think, Leonard has   gained weight and to me,he just looks flabby . And he said himself he no longer has to try anymore and he is not even willing to give up carbs or eat healthy.
Penny on the other hand, has been shown to work out and exercise. Leonard does not.  The guys also pointed this out to Leonard in an episode . Penny works hard to look the way she does, and I feel she is in great physical shape. She does not need to look in the mirror.

Also while many complain that Penny should dress sexy for Leonard when she is at home, Leonard still wears the same hoodies he wore in season 1 , most of the time. So why can't Penny dress like a "tomboy" or  however she wants ?

You just contradicted yourself. So if penny can dress like a tomboy whenever, why can't leonard dress in his underpants whenever he wants. I hate to break it to you but most men walk around at home in there underpants, including me and the misses and most women don't have a problem with it. penny isn't a snob and one to act like one, that's why the arc was so unbelievable and stank of desperation for a story by the writers.

Don't forget the audience... I watched Richard Thomas playing an FBI Special Agent in Charge for several seasons of 'The Americans'. Never quite got used to seeing John Boy as a G-Man...

I totally get your point, and it could be that JP will be hard pressed to escape the shadow of Sheldon Cooper. However, I do think it may have been made easier in light of Sheldon's transformation over the span of seasons 4-10. If he'd spent 10 seasons playing Sheldon 1.0 I think he'd have been really hamstrung by the character.

Actually if you look at Penny during the earlier seasons, when she wasn't really with Leonard she would dress very casual when she was by herself.  I remember Dr. Stephanie complaining to Leonard that Penny came over in her underwear the time she first saw her.  So if anything, except for maybe the plaid shirts, she has been dressing up better around the house since she married Leonard.  Heck Leonard had to get her to dance with him to even get her to take off her pants now.

Penny also dressed very slobbish/casual in Season 6 The Fish Guts Displacement. Or Season 2 The Dead Hooker Juxtopdaption. But I am not sure where this is heading. Whole point of the show is breaking down sterotypes, clichies, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder e.t.c. It's the characters inner beuaty that matters really. Leonard's attitude has slipped regarding his marrage. But physically I Agree, he is relevative. He has gained a bit of weight, most men do after 20. IS natural. But it would be OOC, if he suddenlly started working out. I Think it was more the image it sent out to Penny. Who maybe currently is putting more effort into her looks. But that's easy for her, as that has been her draw card her entire life. They said she has one arrow in her arsennel, and she is a deadliy shot. I get the concept of where the show as going. But seemed a bit clichied for me. Disgruntled, under appreciated wife. Guy in his boxes, and food on his shirt belching playing video games. Penny's dream, while a big reveal. Also from another point of view, very OCC. But well see what the next taping brings.

So Penny can but Leonard can't? Interesting... All the things you mention in your post apply to Johnny and Kaley, and not exclusively to Leonard and Penny. If Johnny gained weight there is not much Leonard can do. Furthermore, that line when he says he no longer has to try anymore is a one liner, and it is once in 10 years. Leonard has been known to make most of the effort in the relationship during the last 10 years. Penny has been shown to exercise but not recently. Kaley on  the other hand does look amazing.

Episode called The Allowance Evaporation. Two major storylines. Shamy on date night. They see Bert, he gets stood up so Sheldon in invites him to join them. Bert let's slip that everyone at the University knows Sheldon and Amy only have sex once a year. Amy's mad and embarrassed. They have a quick fight, but work it out by the end.

Other story is Raj and being spoiled because his Dad pays for everything. Penny, Leonard, Howard, Bernie, and Raj sit around Leonard & Penny's place talking about how spoiled Raj is. Pretty funny lines.

If was a funny episode. Some good Shamy, especially at the end when Sheldon is apologizing for not realizing some things need to be private between him & Amy. And the scenes with the rest of the gang were really funny.

I'll write up a longer report in a bit.

Not exactly a one liner. More an insight into how complacent he's gotten. I agree with Serena currently Penny puts more effort into their marrage. They are not honey youngins anymore. Doesent mean they are not in love anymore. Just means they need to work on their relationship more. Which clearly they have not done. Or as it is Leonard hasent done ahem
