[Spoilers] Discussion: Season 10

thanks, @trinabeana! Hope you had a lovely time!

I have to agree that the shamy stuff sounds like the very definition of stale. Nothing that sounds like it'll enrage me, but on the annoying side. Simply because o would quite like poor mayim bialik to show off her comedic chops and play a weirdo like she has been allowed to do at point this season. Like Serena says, I think I am all set for 'sheldon has to learn how to adult and amy is long-suffering' plot.

and also, show? I like that you have decided that Sheldon wants Amy. Awesome. But I do believe we get it about the frequency of their intercourse. I don't personally care how often they do it so long as they're having fun and they're not implying that either is doing it out of obligation. But this is three times that you've had someone point out the annual coitus thing. And - especially given that they are consenting cohabiting adults and Sheldon tried to grotesquely seduce Amy earlier -it feels like you're pointing out something that YOU seem to think is a problem (again, I don't think it is), the solution to which seems pretty obvious, and you're not taking your own medicine. If you are that exercised about how often shamy do it, show, by all means lift your self-imposed once a year rule. Now that shamy are being weirdoes who enjoy and want each other, does anybody really care that much except you?

And why did they make such a song and dance about telling Sheldon's mother ? Do New Yorkers do it only once a year ?

What's the secret about Sheldon driving ? He told Leonard years ago that he could drive but preferred not to.  Amy had taught him. I don't quite get that.

There was actually a bit of uncertainty about that. I remember we had quite a big argument in the forum last season whether that S8 episode meant he actually got the licence or is still on a learner's permit cause it was worded in a somewhat vague way. Well, now we have confirmation he actually got it! :D

Sheldon and Leonard's relationship has diminished a lot imo, the writers need to find a way to get some of that fun back with them. The only episode I have actually really enjoyed this season in terms of their relationship is Veracity Elasticity, which kind of reminded of the Troll Manifestation days when they had each others back in a situation.

Maybe the writers need to dip into the old geeky playbook with them? Get some old school style nerd stuff going on that highlights/focuses on their friendship? These two used to have fun together, most of the time their relationship now is used for cheap gags or bitching and moaning.

Get some old style Shelnard fun stuff going again, that and group based episodes/activities.

They have wives and girlfriends. Their relationship should diminish.

You can have both, even more so in the universe they have created.

The guys used to be like brothers, they had a lot of fun together over the years. Are you are telling me in their two storyline format for most episodes that they can't fit in one episode a storyline where they are together having fun whilst their significant others are doing something else. I love Shamy being together a lot, but it would seem perfectly normal, reasonable and realistic to have them doing different things one week. Same for Lenny even though they are married.

Thanks. The two years bit would fit as well.

Everybody who'd had a hand in my learning to drive knew when I was taking my test and wanted to know how I'd got on. I can't believe Amy didn't nag Sheldon about it when he was ready.

No doubt I'll gush over all the cute Shamy moments (and I like that Sheldon seemed to reach the conclusion on his own)

Also, again, for all the shows love of repeating old gags, I'm really impressed that for all the times they've brought up the "once a year" thing, it hasn't been used to make the age ol' Amy wants it more but Sheldon won't give it, jokes. The problem was that Sheldon was dishing out private details of their lives, not about how often they do it. Clearly this isn't a man withholding sex to ensure his girlfriend stays, or a woman pushing for him to "give it to her", they are a consensual couple.

With that said, why bring it up at all? Amy's happy, Sheldon is happy, I'm happy. Like @wowbagger said, if they're both clearly in a good place about the subject, why bring it up as if its a problem. Unless this is leading up to when those two have an intellectual debate so mentally stimulating that they naturally fall to the sheets together (hint hint writers:wink:) and then discuss where they would like to go from there, then fine.

As for the plot, okay Amy has made some mistakes this season, Sheldon has too, great now you've displayed the flaws of both. Maybe now we can focus back to these two being their quirky selves.

Loving Shamy this season, will probably love this episode, but yeah a little more variety would be nice.

When Kaley and Johnny came up the audience to give their usual spiel, Kaley said that they all love doing the show and would love to do it for a little while longer. Then she looked at Johnny and said, and we’re going to get that worked out for you all hopefully really soon.

Was Kaley talking directly to Johnny, inferring there is a problem with him signing up for another season?

S8 had some tense moments with them - what's with all that Amy being worried about him being a flight risk (same ep as the "Amy taught me how to drive" scene) so maybe she didn't pressure him about that..?? After all he said he was still a pretty unsure driver so maybe she just didn't know he was ready and willing to take the test at that time. It's as good an explanation as any. /shrugs

Thanks for the terrific report!

I'll wait until it actually airs to comment on the one item that bugged me. Perhaps it won't make the final cut.

...well, now we're all curious.....

Okay so I don't usually weigh in on TR very often but this one I want to do so. Thanks @Trinabeana78  for the report.

So now what I want to comment on is this. I get it Shamy have sex once a year, good for them. I love it if they are okay with it.  No issues there. But here is the thing, the writers make us think that they are doing it more or will do it more with certain aspects. We had an entire episode of Sheldon trying to seduce Amy so they could have a baby. It will take probably more than once a year if they ever do want to have children.

When they first moved in together, Amy pulled Sheldon aside and spoke about coital expectations. If the agreement was to only do it once a year on her birthday why was it necessary to have that discussion? To me that is just ridiculous. Either they are going to bring this out that they would like to do it more than once or not. To say let's take it off the table when it was going to be months before it actually happened ticks me off. It got my hopes up.

I thought they did the whole once a year thing joke and then waited the year just to keep the joke but after it happened I thought they would have that conversation that they took off the table.

I get that they had to do this so Sheldon knew what to keep secret and what not to but he is supposedly a grown man that apparently can drive and he doesn't know to keep his private life private. Is this some oh now I am one of the guys I can talk about it like the rest of the guys do.

As for the Raj storyline I will reserve judgment until it airs.

The episode doesn't sound bad, that is not what I am saying, it just pisses me off that these two grown adults can't seem to have a mature conversation about how often they would like to engage in intimate activities. If they have offscreen then the jokes about the once a year thing need to be squelched.

I'm not sure how being married makes a difference into being together. Its only natural now with Shamy and Lenny  in 4b and 4a that Shelnard aren't going to be together. With 19 minutes and 2 storylines something has to give.

Since JP is the Executive Producer for Sheldon I would think he may be more cooperative in contract talks.

Not necessarily. It was more like she was looking to him to agree with her (about working it out soon)

"Sheldon says okay. He sits on the bed and tells her he actually got his license 2 years ago."

It's the business concerning the driver's license. Another throw-in line from the writers that really doesn't make any sense. When you get a DL you have to take a driving test. In a vehicle that you provide. And, since you don't have a license you have to have someone who does take you, in the vehicle you will test in, to the testing facility. Who took Sheldon and in what car? Any of his friends that took him would then know that he had a license. They would, in turn, tell the others. This would not have remained a secret for any length of time. Certainly not for two years.

This also bothers me because of the missed opportunity for the show to have some great fun with him taking his driving test. Something funny,  enjoyable and fresh. As opposed to beating the dead horse of once a year coitus a few more times; or another of Sheldon's really stale jokes remarking in some way on a woman's reproductive cycle. Set the bar low, writers. That's where you're used to working these days...

It amazing me how sheldon knows it all when it's comes to other people's relationships and business, but hasn't got a clue about his. What happened to the relationship guru as shown time and time when he is butting into Lenny’s problems. He seems to fail when it come to doing the right thing in his own relationship. And is he turning into a real boy, losing his eidetic memory as he seems to forget things a lot these days. telling the cafeteria lady who he forgot her name about the once a year thing.

so basically telling strangers. Sheldon of all people should know better and Amy just keeps forgiving him. What a tool. What happened to the sheldon that said let's keep it private and Amy keeps letting him off the hook when he fucks up time and time again is beyond me because he is learning the same thing over and over but still nothing changes and he even lies and keep secrets from his friends now. Apparently he has got his license and kept it to himself so he can continue to use his so called friends and we are supposed to believe he making progress. I guess it must be love. Amy is really there to stroke his ego and be a yes man. What a waste of the character. Well I guess all of the characters really. This show just gets ridiculous each week now. I don't know which sheldon will appear. The one who we are suppose to feel sorry for and root for,  (not me by the way) or the one that knows what he is doing and uses everyone to benefit him. How this is funny is beyond me.

See, and that's the main reason for making the prequel of a little cute Sheldon. :icon_cheesygrin:

Exactly!!  And didn't he make her sign a non disclosure agreement?  Hello writers??  Do you know what continuity means??!!  Dumb asses!

That is NOT true. You have to supply the car, but it could be from a driving school. Around here, when you sign up at a driving school for lessons, it usually include the car for the road test.

Same here. And then Sheldon could have taken the road test without any of his friends and Amy had known that .
