[Spoilers] Discussion: Season 10

To me the characters's changes seem realistic as people also change in their lives. Imo it would be boring if we see after 10 years the same people doing same things. They had aged and they had got involved in relationships, carreer development , new interests, etc.

About lead and alternate couples....Lenny and shamy have diferent relatioships dynamics and imo it can't be compared as things for be compared they have to follow same patterns and both couples are so diferente in many levels. Both are meant to be but they have almost nothing in common for it could mean as writers change something about one couple, they should do the same about the other. I mean, imo writers had not made the proper offer to lenny still be writing as good as they were used to be. I have kept my faith they might do something about it this season and I got disapointed as most of you, guys. My only hope is that fighting arc could lead their plotlines to somewhere that makes sense in end and may turn to be nice as well. But yeah, I know, it is hard to believe at moment, unfortunately. I hardly believe in it now.

About Sheldon's genius mind I think it could be shown more often as it was used to be but there are still litle hints of that through the season. Howard and Leonard seeked for his help with Maths recently and he really did it , and it sounded like old times Sheldon. My only complain about these traits of him which were brilliant in earlier seasons is his eidetic memory which writers seem to forget he had one nowadays. Actually the writers , and I say this with all my respect, they seem to have a very bad memory as they aged.  Everyone as they aged their memory changes and looses a bit of its freshness but there are ways of people defend themselves of the tricks of an older memory. What really irks me is the amount of show stuff they forgot as they made progress in characters's lives. There are so many ways of keeping a good tech archive about what was writen or not writen yet about each character and tbbt, which is a brilliant show in many ways, has the worst inconsistent character's characterization because their archive might be very lousy. And we are talking about a big team of writers , not only about one  writer though.

Well, hopefully they might manage the next two seasons more nicely. A fan can dream, right? :)

For me, moving forward as far as ships are concerned, my fear is that the Lenny story remains the same for the rest of the series.  My perception from the writers investment in the Lenny story, is they just don't care.

The story they are invested in is Shamy.  The evidence is based on what I see promoted, what I see on TV week after week, and for whatever reason that's what excites the writers.

I think there are stories to be explored in Lenny and even in their individual characters that could show a united cohesive Lenny (gasp...no way...get the F out).  For whatever reason, the writers choose the same week after week.  I would love a story arc for Lenny.  I think it will be more of the same.  I'd like to be wrong but what motivation is there to change anything?  Ratings are good and the show renewed, they can do whatever they want.

And my DREAM if they can't write equally compelling stories for the main couples...then tell other stories.  Get the group out and about, get back to their careers, get back to their hobbies and step away from relationships and leave them tertiary.

A girl can dream...lol!!!

Couldn't agree more. Expect the worst, hope for the best.

Same here. Cliffhangers are great for keep press and viewers interested during the hiatus for what is coming  and also a great way to bring highlights to the show. Last year was too much quiet imo and it is curious that Mary and Alfred potencial romance has not been brought so far by writers, even it seems it  would not be brought again...

Anyway, I also can see a cliffanger involving lenny but nothing too dramatic. And one involving shamy too. The kind of cliffhanger the viewers get anxious all hiatus for see next episode because they need answers. I am really curious for next tapings for the eventual built up for potencial season finnale cliffies. The show needs to use big bangs situations once in a while and there are at moment great stuff to explore imo for both couples. Separations would be a repetitive topic and the show needs to keep freshness for next seasons.  I believe writers would know that.

Agree  I can see a cliffhanger but nothing so dramatic or serious for Lenny.  Possibly, a promotion for Penny and maybe she becomes a spokesperson for the drug company and has to tour the country and promote the company.  This would allow her to leave for the summer and maybe Leonard meets her at various times Just a thought

This would be a good finalé:

Howie, Shelly and Leonard end up making some major breakthrough on the device, and have to be sequestered by the military because it has earth-shattering implications.  They get sent off somewhere with no notice, and the girls are left behind w/ Raj, Stuart and Halley...

I applaud your imagination but shudder at the idea that TBBT would fall prey to the myth of the tyrannical military absconding with Howard, Leonard and Sheldon and their invention.

Why not have a jealous Kripke sneak into their lab and steal the invention? The cliff hanger can be when the three of them go to work the next day and find it missing. Next season's premiere can show them sweating out the search for, and eventual capture of, Kripke before he can meet with Joyce Kim and hand the device over to the North Koreans.

The Kripke plot could be cool but the problem would be the actor avaiable time for taping that as John Ross Bowie has his own show now,  "Speechless". I would vote in that if he was avaiable though!

Sadly, I don't think much will happen in the Lenny story for the rest of the series, the writers just doesn't seem to care for anything else than Shamy.

There is so much they can do with Lenny but nothing happen.

One thing that I would like to see is more of Leonard's genius mind.  His iq is 173. I know, I know.  Far below Sheldon's 187, however genius level iq is supposedly 145 (+/-).  Just because he is not the smartest one in the group does not mean that Leonard is not gifted when it comes to intelligence.  It would be nice to see that acknowledged.  As a reminder, our good friend Dave Gibbs was extremely enthused to meet Dr. Hofstadter after his (second?) date with Amy .......After years and years and years of his intelligence being insulted by both his mother and his supposed best friend it would be nice to see some attributes come his way and to remind the casual viewer that Dr Cooper is not the only genius in town.

Agreed! Another way in which they are making him a lousy looser and have h underrated. By the way, IQ is not a definite measure of intelligence, it's not like measuring height. It reflect results from a set of tests aimed to asses cognitive abilities. Sheldon may perform somewhat better than Leonard in some of them but he certainly very much behind him on things like social and emotional understanding, but he can still get a high score thanks to other skills (I cannot provide a more thourough explanation and examples due to psychologists' ethics).

My first episode was the pilot. But the episode that drawed me was The Pants Alternative. I thought Leonard and Penny looked cute together lol. So they were my hook. It's great we were all introduced to the show for a various reasons. Despite the heated arguments around here at times. Imagine how boring it would be, if we all felt the same.

Ppl say tptb can do ALOT more with Lenny. But then I think. What? I mean stories are drying up. Maybe it's just simply, they have ran out of ideas for not only Lenny but the show it self. It is why imo Lenny got engaged and married too soon. They clearly had no plan for them. 7.23-10.15. Is proof of that. But it is what it is.

The error bars at those levels are also large enough for it to be possible that it's Leonard with higher IQ.  Or, it could be different tests with different scoring( since they don't specify the test).  Not to mention after you get above 150 or so, scores are kinda iffy.

It's all Penny's fault huh lol. Please. I think ppl watched the show for tons of various reasons. I got into it because I could really relate to Lenny. The nerd desiring the hot girl. And then it developed into the Guy Supporting the woman he loves unconditionally. I don't think it was about Leonard being completely dependent on Penny at all. More these two opposiste ppl finding common ground. I found Lenny so charming first two seasons. It was about this girl genuinely adopting these bunch of nerds. And Lenny were always written so realistically.

Fine you have a different point of view. We all do. I don't think being friends with Penny is the reason they write Sheldon differently. You could argue being Friends with Wheaton instead of Enimies. Ruined his character too. But its a various of things. They write Sheldon differently as he was the one character alone and observing. I beleive his relationship with Amy had been the biggest change on his character. Amy used to be more Sheldon then Sheldon. But hanging out with Penny changed her.

So what's the difference with Sheldon being Friends with Penny? Sheldons changed. Because they no longer write him as a brilliant, albeit ignorant deadpan physicist. Who is Incapable of relating to any human on any lvl. Once that awkwardness dissapered, that was it. Once they started "Sheldon evolves into a real boy" narrative. Things shifted. I personally enjoyed Shamy more when they were this quirky, alternative relationship of the mind. Not this sensual, horny teenage/co-parent relationship you see currently. Heck show was better when Lenny were the lead. And Shamy was alternate. But that ship sailed a looong time ago.

Okay, it's  not all Penny's fault. But the show was funnier for me when Sheldon was making comments about how dumb she was and she was making fun of his quirks. To me Leonard was the average Joe who was their straight man in a lot of good early eps. A lot of times she treated Sheldon in a very condescending way, or was simply baffled by why he was the way he was. Often he didn't call her on it, but when he did it was gold. Because the conflict with Sheldon is gone, it seems they have to either give her conflict with Leonard, or give her no storyline at all. And trust me, even some people who are not fans of Lenny are sick of the conflict she's been having with Leonard. Penny and Sheldon as friends just isn't comedic to me . If you like it better now, that's great. I'm glad someone does. I just said I don't.  And I'm not sure why comparing Penny to Will Wheaton who's shown up on the show three or four times works.

And I do NOT see a sensual horny teenager relationship with Shamy. If that's what it was, they wouldn't have both agreed that the idea of having sex didn't feel right after Bernie's false labor run to the hospital. And if you want to talk about co-parenting, it was just as cringeworthy for me, if not more, when Leonard and Penny were treating him like their child of divorce and taking him to Disneyland. And the recent comment about thunderstorms was just as bad.

In others words the show was funnier when Amy wasn't on. As to condescending hasn't Sheldon been equally condescending by commenting how dumb Penny is. Or condescending to Leonard about his career? Or condescending how Howard only has a masters.

As to being sick of the Lenny conflict I'm sick of the talk about the Shamy sex life. Isn't abnormal or unrealistic to only have  sex once a year? What's the point of their relationship.

sheldon can't take of himself while sick and needs people to do things most people can do on their own. He gets treated like a child because he acts like a child.

To me it would be, but the show isn't about me. I wish they had not spend a whole ep talking about how they have sex once a year. I agree with you on that, but I don't think they are going to keep taking about it in every ep, at least I hope they don't.

Certainly he was condescending to them as well, but that WAS one of his quirks.  And to me the guys played off  him differently than Penny did at first. As for how funny it has been, my favorite season was six. The Cooper/Kripke Inversion, The Parking Spot Escalation, The Bakersfield Expedition, The Love Spell Potential, The 43 Peculiarity...the show worked with everyone that season. Since then for me, not so much. I'm happy for the fans that think it's better now than it used to be, or who like the direction of the show, but while I still like it, it's not the show it was for me. I know it's a sitcom and not Masterpiece Theater and after ten seasons I expect comedies to start doing that. Most shows in general seem to go downhill a bit as they age. But there are a few things that I think they could do better than they do.

That would make a funny episode, the gang all taking IQ tests and one of them scoring higher than Sheldon, could you imagine how he would act if someone had a higher IQ than him.
