The us is a big country and regional dialects differ greatly, soda/pop/cola as an example so maybe that's it, I have always said glove compartment and never heard it called a glove box

Bert is a wise man, Dave is an idiot :fi_lone_ranger:

MUST you make a snarky comment Everytime someone besides Sheldon or Amy is mentioned?

Didn't Dave like Leonard also? :)

One could argue they might have too many guest stars as it is so adding more might not be a good idea. If they were getting married for the first time then would have been the time to cast the whole family but even then fitting all these characters in a 20 min show would be tough.

There is nothing stopping the writers bringing Leonard's siblings, Penny's sister or Sheldon's brother etc in for example at some future point or storyline.

For the record, I never once mentioned Leonards siblings. I was just simply pointing out Wyatt used to call Penny his little slugger, because he wanted a boy. Might explain why Penny is inherently very tom boyish tbh. Yet externally is so girly. But Penny has a brother, so that made no sense. I diddn'y mention anything about Leonard's sister. OR adding more family members. Kinda confused tbh.

The fact that we are not shown Lenny’s (or Shamy's) complete relatives does not mean that they don't have them. It just means that they did not have a place in the plot. Not unreasonably. :shy:
The writers have something like 20 minutes an episode. Why would they waste any of that on the relatives just to show that they still have them?

Indeed he did but liking Sheldon is not why I called him an idiot.

Bert is attracted to Amy and would like to date her if at some future point if she again becomes single. He always says things which are complimentary to Amy such as she is cool or that Sheldon is only popular because he is dating her. This leaves her with a positive impression of him. This is a wise course.

Dave is attracted to Amy and actually gets a date with her, he then spends the entirety of it fangirling to her about her newly ex boyfriend. EVEN after she politely but plainly asked to change the subject. Since he likes her and would like to see her again this behavior certainly qualifies as idiotic.

It makes perfect sense especially if Penny is the oldest child, if she is indeed and her father was hoping for a son it's possible that some of the things he wanted to do with his son might have ended up being transferred to her. As far as I am aware we don't know the age of her siblings, though I accept I could be very wrong with that.

Edit- Looking at some past quotes and lines it looks like Penny's sister is older, the whole crayola bikini wax line suggests she is an older sister to Penny. But the brother could be younger than Penny, if Wyatt was desperate for a son but had two daughters already that makes sense.

He uses British vocab when talking to Raj or Priya, eg 'flatmate' and 'trousers'. To whom was he speaking when he said 'compartment' ? I  can't remember.

I hadn't noticed that. It will be something more for me to watrch out for during the boring bits. I always wonder why S& L are "roommates" when they don't share a room. I suppose no-one lives in one room in America.

in the USA the word for living with somebody (even in separate rooms but under the same roof) is roommates and yes, we do have some (albeit random) rent a room situations but like I said, even here in NYC where space is limited, most live in at least a studio which is essentially 1 room but you have your own kitchen set-up & bathroom.

They share rooms, just not bedrooms.

One room apartments are called studio apartments.

...and my reply/quotie thing is messed up again.......

This is such an interesting topic: linguistics......I always thought that the catch-all phrase "roommate" came from schooling situations and instances in the semi-distant past where one did actually share a room instead of an entire apartment.  I don't know why I think that.  Anyone else??  I also think of "trousers" as sort of archaic here.  My older relatives called my pants "trousers" or "slacks".  My mom usually stayed with “pants”.

Never called a glove compartment a glovebox.  Usually I only hear that from automakers in ads/commercials.....

Again, a very interesting topic (and I apologize for being off subject here!!!).

We also have to remember that this isn´t a wedding reception, Leonard and Penny are already married, they are just renewing their vows. Because of that perhaps all relatives wasn´t invited.

I don't even think Leonard and his siblings are particularly close so that might be a contributing factor as well. Plus, it's also a spontaneous event and not everyone can fly cross country within 2 days.

All this chatter about Penny's missing sister (only mentioned I think like twice or 3x) and Leonard's missing siblings (who I never got the impression they were close whatsoever).....makes me wonder will we ever know if Amy's father is alive & not in her life or dead...LOL

She was mentioned 4 times and the latest was in 9x03.

My guess is that the writers has forgotten about Penny´s sister. They are not that great with continuity on the show.

hmm I am quite annoyed and sad about that. I mean it's not like she was last mentioned years ago - she was mentioned in the same episode Penny called her father to say she is married - so that is just lazy. But oh well! wishful thinking they mention she can't make it.

Her sister and family may not have been able to get away. And with all the other guest stars the production company may not have had money to pay for other actors. Also with only a 22 minute show, the writers may not have had any part for them rather than standing in the background.

Yeah and apparently. Wyatt wanted a boy, hence why he refered to Penny as his little slugger. Yet Penny has a brother?! Anyway. WOAT, when it comes to continuity.

hmm maybe Penny's sister is the oldest, Penny the middle child and the brother is the youngest? I don't know. Continuity is always messy with shows.

Yeah I was under the impression with that too. Same with Sheldon and his siblings and his brother who we have never meet.

Amy I am certain is an only child. Her father no idea if he is alive or dead?

Bernadette and Raj have so many siblings and we haven't meet them yet. If the show goes on for 12 seasons - I am curious to meet Bernadette's siblings.

They have to keep something in the bag for the spin-off. When she moves to the other coast... (tossed salad and scrambled eggs...)
