[Spoilers] Discussion: Season 10

It might not be within his character to do those things, but it's within his character for him to do the things Ramona tells him to do. That's what her entire episode in S2 was about. He skipped Halo night, wasn't allowed to hang out with his friends, couldn't play paintball, etc. Nobody strips Sheldon of his schedule, hobbies, or friends... but she did. Sheldon tends to react when people take an parental, no nonsense tone with him and that's just how Ramona is.

While what you say is absolutely true IMO there is one difference. Ramona made him do something he likes doing Physics. Sheldon on the otherhand has no interest in swimming.

People with higher bone density can swim.

According to Sheldon, his high bone density prevents him from swimming.

The way Sheldon got over the initial fear of being in a pool was just imagining it as a huge bathtub.

Hopefully not a claw-foot bathtub. :icon_biggrin:

Amy: Why don’t we do something athletic like go over to the university pool and play water polo?

Leonard: No good, Sheldon doesn’t float.

Sheldon: That is true. I have a higher than normal body density. If I run too deep a bath, I drown.

I think it is more he can't float not he can't swim. Even so it still makes no sense.

This may be a shock for you but not everything a character says is the absolute truth. This one is just as much bullshit as Amy's 22 degrees nonsense.

Hello everyone,

I haven't posted for years (litterally), but I read your posts quite daily and enjoy all the speculations. By the way, thanks to Kazzie for both the reports and all people that provide us the spoilers.

When I read the plot for the finale released by CBS, I was convinced that the Sheldon/Ramona stuff was about detracting attention from something (good...I hoped) regarding Lenny.

I was wrong. And disappointed.

They are leaving Lenny in the middle of nowhere.

Raj as well, even if we know that his nowhere will be close to the Bert's garage.

Also, they keep writing some incosistencies:

Ramona appears after ages as a ghost of an ex-swimmer

Sheldon goes to the swimming pool. What?!? Does Sheldon go to the swimming pool?!? Probably, a visitant took possession of his body. Otherwise, it seems OOC to me, despite all the changes Sheldon has made in the last years.

Sheldon proposes after being kissed by the terminator-Ramona, going straight to the airport... with the ring in his pocket? Magic, telekinesis or was Sheldon planning to propose, carrying the ring everywhere, waiting only for the right moment?

Kudos to the writers for choosing just the right moment!

Is it all necessary only to create a (not real) cliffhanger for the season finale?!

I really do not know what they are getting at with the next season.

Maybe, I will be enlightened after watching the last episodes. I look forward to that!

At least we will get some Lenny, Shamy cute scenes; the Shelnard's one; team spirit and funny moments.

Sorry if I have been repetitive, I have to catch up with all your posts. And for my writing. English is not my native language.

At this point, all we can do is agree to disagree. You have typed the word "swimming" more in the last few days than I can count.  It was a silly error and poorly executed scene on the part of the writers, not a smoking gun that Sheldon cheated on Amy. Even if he had no interest in swimming and previously didn't think it was even possible, what do you want all of this to mean? That Sheldon is secretly in love/lust with Ramona and purposely with motive went on a date with another girl while Amy was away? If he knew and it was his intention to see Ramona on the side, he wouldn't have been in the process of asking Ramona if her intentions were romantic before she kissed him. He never would have acted shocked. He never would have booked his ass to Princeton. None of that would've happened.

Since they are imaginary and only exist on a TV program nothing they 'say' is true; absolute or not, (the idea of which opens the philosophical discussion concerning absolutism versus relativism).

All we have to go on with these characters is what they say, and how they act, within the confines of the program we see. Leonard is lactose intolerant. How do we know this? He, and the other characters, have stated it many times. Likewise, Sheldon suffers from a variety of phobias and has numerous other aversions. We know this because they have been established within the context of 10 years worth of TBBT episodes. We know from watching the show that Sheldon is averse to the idea of swimming for at least two reasons. Pools are germy and his higher than average bone density makes him non-buoyant.

All of the "Sheldon has grown/changed/evolved" talk doesn't excuse away the writers pulling this stuff out of their hats and ignoring what they have previously written. Some viewers don't mind this and that's certainly their choice to make. Others seem to want to explain it and that's also fine. Some of us find it annoying and would prefer that they stay true to the canon they have created. When they don't, we call them out on it. At which point this forum descends into pointless debate concerning who is right and why the other side is wrong.

Sheldon, despite the reasons why he would not, apparently goes swimming with Ramona. Canon changed and Michael Phelps better watch out. Sheldon is coming for his gold medals.

Like @April, I think the swimming is OOC on purpose. It goes to show that Ramona made him do something he is very unlikely to do, hence adding to the gang's concerns.

Unless Ramona had a gun and threatened Sheldon he decided to go swimming.

Sheldon goes to the swimming pool. What?!?

I know!

What happened to his obsession, with how many parts per million of urine they’d be floating around in?

I really don't know what point you are trying to make.  That Sheldon indeed has feelings for Ramona and he is interested in her ??

That he was a willing participant. Just like Leonard was with Mandy.

You are in fact partially right, althougt I still insist there is nothing wrong, sexual or intimate with going to swim with another person, it's an activity out of sheldon comfort zone and it'is meant to create doubt if  he may be  obliviously falling for  her advances, but to me he is not, that is established when he confronts her, rejects her and flees from her.

in my opinion, he is really oblivious, you can buy or not, you can think it's incosistent with the evolution of the character or that  it's not credible, but the way he acts, I really think he doesn't see Ramona is hitting on him and that hanging out so much with her it's inapropiate, he doesn't hide Ramona, or the swiming "date" even from Amy, he answers the skype call with Ramona at their apartement and talk about amy all the time, he hasn't nothing to hide.

And yes, what he is doing is inapropiate to everyone because everyone realizes she is hitting on him, and now I suppose we are in for the eternal debate, that he not knowing better is not excuse for his behavieur, well it is, if he doen't know, he doesn't know, If you (you like in the gang and amy) can live with it, good, if not you (again you like in the gang and amy) know where the door is.

He's sad about Amy going away and losing his project, so he's sitting in the empty apartment.

Someone more astute than I pointed out that Amy had NO clue that Bert was trying to hit on her, until Howard and Raj explained it to her, back in the day.

Sorry if this was mentioned earlier, but why exactly did they lose the gyroscope project?
