Itwasdestined
I disagree. The only reason they put up with him is because the writers make them. They have nothing to gain from Sheldon or his insults no one will put up with that or love someone like him and that's why it's not the real world or Sheldon will be living in 2003 alone.Sent from my SM-N930F using TapatalkYep, the writers make them and it's not the real world. It's a sitcom, not a doco. Sitcoms wildly exaggerate personality traits to such an extent that they are beyond believable but if successfully done, lots of people get a laugh. I have friends and I myself am SIMILAR to these characters but not to the extent Sheldon is written. (Heck, the finale of Seinfeld was basically written to admit how the hell could anyone be friends with these horrible human beings but millions laughed at it for a long time). So I see something on the show and I think that's like me or Dave or Whitey ha ha but we wouldn't go that far. We get to laugh at ourselves as over the top caricatures instead of our real selves. We all have such different responses to the way this show is going. Some of this commentary on the last few pages makes me feel I'm back in my 1984 English Literature class and Shakespeare has been replaced by Molaro,Prady and Lorre. Such magnificent analysis. And then some of us just tune in to have a laugh, a groan, an ugh or two, a WTF, and end the show viewing with an "Oh, Sheldon!!!" and move on. S'pose that's what makes being successful writers so challenging. Impossible to please us all. Often wonder how Shakespeare and Dickens would have handled Twitter rants!Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Nothing ever happens unintendedly in this show. Ha! True enough. But, if it helps, I think the distinction is between good writing and bad writing. For me, the writing works if I remain in the moment. If I am pulled out, then something has gone wrong. And if I am thinking '.....well, that was an awfully convenient coincidence' or 'why would you do that, in that moment? It makes no sense' or 'what? No. Shenanigans.' repeatedly during an episode, then essentially my suspension of disbelief is being pushed too far. I accept that fiction is manipulation. I just don't like it when I can see the puppetmaster's strings. so I think when some posters say 'so and so is being written to do such and such', that is shorthand for 'so and so is being written to do such and such....and it is implausible to me. In other words, I can feel the writers' breath on my neck and I am being pulled out of the moment.'

As far as Bernie's pregnancy goes, they already did a time jump (ep. 2, not showing, ep. 3 and 4Â obviously showing), so I don't expect a huge leap, maybe a 2-3 week jump. We will just have to see! Even more, Bernie knew she was pregnant on Valentine's day. If they time-jumped to real-time, she would be 9 months pregnant in October and this coming episode or two would be the birth of the baby. If anything, they are going to be time-stalling.

When it comes to the real world and people like Sheldon, we don't get to delve into their background and history to come to an understanding as to why they tick differently than everyone else.  Therefore, we are not so forgiving of their undesirable personalities.     On the other hand, for (10) years, we have been given a ticket into Sheldon's life to see the things that have influenced his thought processes and the way he chooses to act in specific situations. To those who enjoy Sheldon's character, it is because he has been portrayed to be extremely human, and those around him can see past his negative qualities and either accept or ignore them.   They are tolerant because they see Sheldon as someone broken who either can't help himself, or they just feel sorry for the man because of his background and ignorance of how the "real world" functions.    All that aside, his positive traits are intriguing and attractive.  It provides stimulating entertainment away from the sometimes boring hum-drum reality most of us live where we will never have the opportunity or patience to see the evolution of a jerk becoming a better person and socially succeeding in spite of himself. Why? Because of the forgiveness, leniency, graciousness, and love of those around him who choose to see Sheldon as he truly is; a good man with a big heart who acts out because of a protective and arrogant wall he has built around himself.  There is no question of his intelligence. They want to see him succeed in understanding and living life outside of what science can provide answers for.  They want to crack the mystery that is Sheldon. Sheldon is not portrayed as malicious.  He is extremely confident, and it makes it easier to tolerate the insults when we understand that he honestly believes he is right in his opinions and the points he tries to make. We actually expect to see the inconsiderate and insulting side of Sheldon show up in each episode because that is what he does. Do I make excuses for him? Yes, I do.  Does that mean the things he does are right and I condone them? No.  Does that mean he doesn't irritate the heck out of me, and I won't vent my frustrations over his actions? No.  Does that mean I like him any less? No.   Would I tolerate such things in my own life or that of my friends? No.  Do I enjoy seeing others suffer and deal with Sheldon because I'm not the one on the receiving end of it?  Sometimes.  Do I enjoy seeing how they all make friendship with Sheldon work? Yes.  Would I ever want to be Sheldon's girlfriend?  No, No, and No.   Would I have Sheldon at my wedding?   Not on my life! Then, why do I fangirl Sheldon and Shamy as a passive observer without any guilt for doing so? .........Because it isn't the real world, and I can.    That's the point, isn't it? (Hypothetically) I am so looking forward to the rest of this season. Not necessary. I love to have a laugh but when it feels like you know what you are doing and the writing makes the characters around you feel dumb cause they don't get it after 10 years is not funny and unrealistic. Recycling old gags come into mind. It's like a comedian going on stage and telling the same jokes with no new material. Lady in Red
Just back from the taping tonight.  "The Hot Tub Contamination".  Quick Synopsis.  Bernadette and Howard plan a trip to Palm Springs, but cancel since Bernie gets sick.  Howard had told Raj and Stuart about the trip, but B/H decide to vacation at home without telling their friends.  So, Stuart and Raj come and share an evening in their hot tub thinking that they are not at home. In the meantime, Sheldon and Amy are bickering as they continue their experiment living together.  Several scenes with Sheldon seeking advice from Penny, and Amy seeking advice from Leonard.  Sweet ending that will make Shamy fans very happy.  I took notes so I will work on a more complete taping report now.  The filming went very quickly tonight, with very few muffed lines. joyceraye
Is it just me, or is the chatroom made of rubber tonight ? People arrive and leave again. There's usually a crowd by now - just before 4.55 am BST. Lady in Red came in about ten minutes ago, said she had just come out of the taping and then got bounced out. Does anyone know if there's a tech issue ? Later : I think it was just me.Probably a server issue. om sort of delay. Everything was fine soon after I posted. wonder63
Look's like another good episode and I can't wait to see pregnant Bernadette taking it out on Raj and Stuart. I hope Howard and Bernadette interact more with the gang - however I am certain once the baby is born Shamy or Lenny will babysit for an episode. Speaking of the baby should be born in November sweeps right? If Bernadette got pregnant in February. Unless they ignore she got pregnant in February and pretend those episode's occured a month later to delay it. But kinda in a corner on that one. Unless they keep pretending the episodes of season 10 are not matched up to real time and we are in August right now and not late September/October. Most likely Bernadette give's birth as the last episode to air for 2016 and episode 10.11. Best way to close out a year.

Lady in Red
"The Hot Tub Contamination" Cold Open - Penny and Leonard in 4A.  Sheldon and Amy enter complaining about the bathroom schedule.  Sheldon says P/L like it, and they say no, they don't.  Several jokes, then S/A realize that they need to reach a compromise. Scene 1 - Comic Book Store - Howard and Raj are at the register buying comic books from Stuart.  Howard says that he and Bernadette are planning a vacation before the baby comes to Palm Springs.  They are trying to do more stuff before the baby comes.  Scene 2 - Later in 4A.  P/L and S/A - Bickering continuing.  Sheldon says he is male and needs to spread his DNA.  Amy says we are sleeping together once a year, how much more spreading do you need? Scene 3 - Later in the Wolowitz bedroom - Howard is reading a baby book while Bernie is throwing up off-scene in the bathroom.  She has a definite baby bump now.  Howard says the baby book says you should not be getting morning sickness any more.  Bernie comes out and is clearly not feeling well.  They decide to spend their vacation at home, and to keep it a secret from their friends.  Scene 4 - Penny driving Sheldon in her car.  It is night.  Sheldon complains about how difficult Amy is to live with.  Penny questions whether she is more difficult than Sheldon is to live with.  Sheldon complains that Amy eyes him like a piece of meat, and Penny says Leonard often gives her an approving thumbs up.  Sheldon says that for once, he would like to be appreciated for his mind. Scene 5 - Later in the Wolowitz bedroom - Howard is rubbing Bernie's feet, and is joking around doing magic tricks.  They hear a noise like the door opening, and footsteps.  Howard jumps around in a panic, neither has their cell phone in the bedroom, and Bernie says I have my iPad.  Howard says sure, you can e-mail 9-1-1.  Then they hear a bubbling sound.  They look out their window and see Stuart relaxing in their hot tub.  He does not see them. Scene 6 - Leonard and Amy discussing Sheldon in 4A.  He is high maintenance.  Amy complains he posted a sign in the bathroom showing the number of days without Sheldon finding one of her hairs on the soap.  Leonard remarks that his record was six. Scene 7 - Prerecorded yesterday.  The Wolowitz backyard hot tub.  Stuart is relaxing and suddenly the backyard lights come on.  Stuart hides under the water.  Raj appears, drops his robe, and enters the hot tub wearing a pair of swim trunks.  Stuart pops up out of the water, surprising Raj.  H/B are watching all of this from their bedroom window. Scene 8 - Prerecorded yesterday.  The Wolowitz hot tub continued. Stuart says he comes over whenever he knows H/B will not be home.  Once he hid in the bushes and pretended to be a raccoon.  H/B still watching from their window. Scene 9 - Penny driving Sheldon in her car and they are talking.  Sheldon says that "being with Amy has awoken the sexual creature within.   When I see a pretty woman walking down the street I go hubba-hubba." Scene 10 - Back to the Wolowitz hot tub.  Raj and Stuart are sharing wine.  Stuart says he uses the key to the house that he never returned.  Bernie is annoyed with Howard, who admits to lying about getting the key.  Raj says that he is single now, no longer dating the two women.  The second take had different wording, with Stuart saying you had more girlfriends that I ever had. Scene 11 - Amy and Leonard talking in 4A at the kitchen island.  Leonard encourages Amy to hold firm on the bathroom schedule.  He wishes he had because now if it is 7:18 am, there had better be a toilet.  Amy says that she is in this relationship too, and if Sheldon doesn't like it, he can just move back to 4A.  Leonard says, he can, but he will need a good locksmith. Scene 12 - Penny and Sheldon eating ice cream at the ice cream parlor.  Sheldon is looking for other women.  Penny points out several, which Sheldon finds unsuitable.  Finally, Sheldon tells Penny a story he has never told anyone.  He came home from college early for spring break when he was 12 (first take, he was 13 in the second two takes) because the college had run out of math to teach him.  His mother was at Bible Study, and he was expecting the house to be empty.  He heard a sound from his parent's bedroom, and he opened the door to see his father in bed with another woman.  They locked eyes, he shut the door and ran, and they never ever mentioned it to each other.  That is why he knocks three times.  The first one is tradition, and the second two are for you to get your pants on.  Penny is sympathetic.  Sheldon apologizes for not hitting on her along with the other women in the ice cream parlor, and says that he thinks of her more as a nanny.  Penny says, let's get you home. Scene 13 - Wolowitz deck - Raj gets up to leave, and wonders why Stuart remains in the tub.  Stuart says he is not wearing swim trucks like Raj.  Howard finally loses his temper, and opens the window to yell that they need to get their own hot tub. Scene 14 - Amy and Leonard in 4A, with Amy enjoying sitting in Sheldon's spot.  Penny and Sheldon return from the ice cream parlor, and Amy quickly shifts to the center of the sofa.  Sheldon sits on the left side of the sofa, begins to speak to Amy, then jumps over to his spot.  He notices that it is warm.  He says to Amy that he is willing to forego the bathroom schedule.  Scene 15 - The bathroom in a prerecorded scene.  Sheldon speaks to Amy.  "Amy Farah Fowler, will you share this toothbrush holder with me?"  They put their toothbrushes into the holder and hug.  Penny and Leonard are looking on.  Penny sheds a tear.  "I may be crazy, but I found it moving."

serena_1995
Thanks @Lady in Red  ! This episode has revealed that Sheldon has started noticing pretty women and he finds them physically attractive. Also there is some kind of indication that he has desires for Amy . Which is some forward momentum, i guess ? His sexuality has forever been so confusing to me. Edited September 21, 2016 by serena_1995

"I may be crazy, but I found it moving."       Thanks so much for the details. Â Not a lot of behind the scenes, but Jim was walking around with his note cards before the first couple of scenes, and then would put them into the top drawer of the stand holding the key bowl next to the front door in 4A. Â I had never heard that he did that.

Lady in Red
One more thing.  Before they began tonight's taping they showed us last week's episode, 10x4.  It was seriously awesome.  But, of course, the audience tonight HAD to know about the 5 week experiment so we could understand what was happening! BTW, Sheldon's final line from 10x4 before he and Amy storm out of the room, "Does Stephen Hawking roll through the quad?"
