Kev0821 Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Is anyone else hoping for a Halloween episode this year? We haven't had one since season 6's "The Holographic Excitation." I think the theme could pair nicely with the LA.

Then I am fine with this storyline.

What a ridiculously bad story arc. To quote Raj, his arc is "kaa-kaah" This Raj and two women story arc makes me crazy.  I wanted to smack Amy during the Valentine's day FWF trying to make Raj feel better after what he did to Emily. Granted, she didn't know what happened, but I did not care for TPTB trying to gain my sympathy for him. I liked Emily.  I really did. I loved how she stood up to Sheldon and to Raj.  Then they ruined her by having her crying back to Raj like her life was over without him.  Sheldon was right, she can do better than Raj.  I thought her to be a more confident woman than that. Raj knew exactly what he was doing when he planned to dump Emily for Claire, and then had the audacity to do it on Valentine's day.  However, Raj going from not being good enough for a woman to God's gift to women to why can't I keep a woman just irritates the heck out of me. His whole pity party with Howard and jokes about being with his wife one day, to me does not make for a very good friend.  He is a douche bag. I like the Raj that likes to throw parties, entertain, and help with the science projects.  I have no sympathy for this feel sorry for me because I'm all alone bit, because he did it to himself and deserves it.   Now before someone points out that I am merciful to Sheldon and his antics toward Amy and Leonard, but don't get why I struggle to make the same excuses for Raj, I freely admit to bias and make no apologies.   I can't explain it, but Sheldon does get more leniency from me.  I'm not saying it's right.   I can't help it. I just have a soft spot for him.   I can't find one for Raj on this matter. Chrismo Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I think Halloween episodes at this point need to be done now. We had them when they were single and then when they were couples.  IMO there is nothing left to be done.

Just tune out now and watch something else. I don't enjoy the sheldon show and the only thing keeping me slightly interested is Lenny but not sure how long that's going to last cause I see the same record playing for Lenny. If they do one - then we have a big time-jump somewhere inbetween the first couple episodes until episode 6 for Bernadette to be well into her pregnancy she would have only 2 months left to birth. Maybe not. I hope for a christmas and thanksgiving episode. Really I want a Penny birthday episode. It sucks we missed out last season on her 30th birthday. We have had so many characters having birthdays. It's about time Penny get's praised by her friends for having her in her life. I feel Penny needs the attention for a change.
3ku11 Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 (edited) Hmm I am not sure I agree with the idea Penny lacks focus. She is one of the main characters. And gets like 95 % of the screen time. She's also the second highest paid actress on TV JMO. I would love a Penny birthday episode. But I don't she needs recognition or anything. Edited September 27, 2016 by 3ku11

If they want to make an Halloween episode it should be the one they film next week (10.6), since it airs on October 27 or at most 10.7, which should air soon after RL Halloween. I'm not very optimistic about that, anyway. Bernie should give birth more or less in late October, so actually if they want this pregnancy to last for some other episodes they will have to keep the time frame a bit "generic" with small time jumps at each episode. I think she will give birth during sweeps, but towards the end of it, in late November. I guess a Christmas\New Year episode (please... want a NY one!!) is very likely. Not sure about a Thanksgiving one, again it depends on when the episode with Bernie having her baby is scheduled.

I am not much into Halloween episodes but maybe it s me as I am not american, although in most recent years Halloween celebration has been growing in my country. I am with you about a New Years episode, as there are so much happening in characters lives that would be so nice to get litle scenes about what they are expecting for the new year, with always the perfect moments for a good laugh about it.  Edited September 27, 2016 by spidergirl
jenafan Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I loved Bernie's storyline, but does anyone think she went overboard threatening to sue, not even knowing whether she had the job or not? Given earlier in the episode she said another employee didn't get the same job the year before because she was pregnant, perhaps she had reason to believe the same would happen to her. Nonetheless, I think it sends a wrong message & assumes discrimination before there is a basis for it. Also,  Bernie was willing to resort to slandering another employee's reputation because of what she thought that employee had done to her.  So, I get that she is talented and worked hard to get where she is, but it seems her tactics of intimidation are moving her up the ladder faster than merit.  Is that something to be proud of? Nothing personal. It's just business. Lol. To use a broad brush, maybe Bernie working for Big Pharma is apropos. I read it as a bit of editorialising/satire on industry ethics. Penny gets to do the same thing sometimes.

Jonny Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 (edited) On the Raj thing in regards to Molaro's interview and the uncertainty over the actual status of his relationships it could be different things: 1. It's an old interview (or part of it could be old) and somewhere during the process after this interview they decided to have Raj single again. 2. Most people don't read TR's and don't end up spoiled, Molaro could know they have dropped the Raj storyline but decided to keep people's interest in it anyway (it's an ugh! storyline to me but some may like it). 3. Maybe Raj ends up re-forming his harem again? We all know it has looked on the rocks in the past but then he has ended up going back to one of them, so he was single during that hot tub episode but now is back with one or both of them. 4. Maybe we get a flashback scene and find out what actually happened? It kind of goes against my usual stance in terms of conflict on the show, but I feel in this case a humiliating public dumping might actually provide a life-defining moment for him and one he can take something positive from. Chrismo Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 (edited) Going by this season the first episode was a Lenny episode. Last night it wasn't but it wasn't any couples storyline. I think would have to go episode by episode. Has their roles been diminished compared to season 3? Obviously. Season 6? Probably. IMO it is difficult to compare things to how they were because relationships are different and the show itself is different. Has science stories been diminished? Excluding last night? Yes. I think some, including myself, wish for the days when the show was simpler. But unless someone leaves the show this ain't gonna happen. What's also interesting to me is what people thought of the show last night. Some loved it. Some hated it. Others in between. And their opinions weren't based on what couple they shipped. But this will make ratings as a whole for last night very interesting but not because of content of BBT or anything.
jenafan Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 I'm stepping out of the Shamy ship for a moment to express my thoughts on the Lenny decline topic. I enjoyed the wedding redo very much.  It was so nice to see Penny express how happy Leonard makes her after all the disappointments we had in S9 with the Mandy storyline (don't get me started on how that was so wrong and should never have happened) and Penny's attempts to convey her lack of excitement over her new career path while at the same time making it sound like she regretted marrying Leonard.  With that in mind, I will say that I rather enjoyed seeing how Lenny tackled real life problems like doubt, trust, debt, getting older, looking for the spice of life again, etc.  The naughty carrot stands out as one of my favorite Lenny scenes, even though it disappointed me that Penny couldn't remember Leonard's birthday.  Even the digs at each other about the stability of their marriage seemed to be all in jest.  Seeing them bond together to make compromises for Sheldon was a let down, because they should be on their own. At the same time, I appreciate their generosity in wanting to be there for a friend and making it work for them.  I know we saw them a lot in Sheldon's kitchen, but to me, 4A fits them, and I hope they get the apartment in the end. After the wedding redo, I had hoped we'd see something fresh and new.   I expected Lenny to keep jesting with each other, because that is what they do.  However, to hear Penny tell the girls that when Leonard get anxious, she sends him for a long walk and then when Bernadette asks if it works, she says "Yes, but eventually he comes back" with no smirk or facial expression to indicate she's joking is disconcerting. If that wasn't bad enough, we had to hear Leonard jest to his friends that without his Brioche French toast, the marriage is doomed.   It's one thing to joke about your marriage to each other, but to do so to those on the outside? Really?  To put icing on the cake of disrespect for Lenny, Penny had to ask Sheldon if Leonard likes lemon bars.  Penny, I think needs to lay off being there to vent and console Sheldon and concentrate on getting to know and consoling her husband instead.  Why does she always take Sheldon's side over Leonard's?  Leonard had every right to be mad.  While I appreciate hearing Sheldon's apology and empathetic side show, it would have been nice to see Penny heading to the bedroom to talk to her husband about the matter instead. I know people want to blame Sheldon's presence as the reason for their disappointment in the way Lenny is being treated, but to me, the issue goes far deeper than Sheldon being around all the time.  Penny has become Sheldon's crutch, and she seems to enjoy it.  Until they fix that, I'm afraid the Lenny disappointment will continue.  Not only does Sheldon need to move on with Amy, but Penny has to be willing to let go of her default tendency to enable Sheldon's dependence in allowing him to hold his position between her marriage and their friendship.  It should be commitment to Leonard first, then friendship with Sheldon. So, I get it when people say they see a decline in Lenny.  While I don't agree 100%, I do believe TPTB are not giving their marriage the respect it deserves, causing us to scratch our heads as to why two weddings were needed.   What I want to see is actions within the marriage to show that is it solid and Lenny love each other, not just a reminder that yes they are married, and it's legit.  We get it.  Now, writers, please show us why they wanted to marry each other and bind themselves together forever instead of making a continuous joke of it.  It's not funny anymore, if it ever was. Great points all jenafan. You are always so respectful in your posts and put your opinions forth in a thoughful adult manner....... I think the main problem for Lenny and in some ways for Shamy is TPTB view the Sheldon/Penny relationship as perhaps the second most important (behind Leonard and Sheldon) on the show, which is a shame for us Lenny shippers because in the first 6 seasons, it was clear (well to me anyway), that the second place spot belonged to Leonard and Penny. With what we know is coming in 10.4 & 10.05, perhaps this will end as they are now working toward a conclusion to the series on the near horizon. Time will only tell..... Anyway, thank you for this thought provoking post.
