[Spoilers] Shamy: Season 10

I'm a hardcore feminist and all that jazz, and I think women should propose more if they want to. But in this circumstance, I really hope it's Sheldon who proposes. Amy is very much a progressive woman, but she still likes traditional practices such as the man proposing to the woman, and that's totally in her right.

And Sheldon is a Texan after all. I'm told they're like Yorkshirefolk. I remember how he strode out with the ring after the Spockumentary filming, in absolutely no doubt at all that it was his role .

Proposing to him would not move the situation along one bit anyway. Even though he'd be unlikely to refuse, it wouldn't bring the marriage any nearer. He's got his reasons, which will perhaps be revealed by tptb one day, for keeping the jets cool and sticking to the status quo. He can't have not thought about it.  Meanwhile, he's enjoying himself where he is, trying new things, becoming more aware of how he needs to conduct himself in the world, and perhaps even reflecting how unready he was when he was thinking about proposing before.

He might even be thinking of Amy's initial reaction, 'Who says I want to be engaged to him ?' regardless of how she seemed to calm down and want the ring. So, he wants to know for sure that she's happy with him. So far we haven't heard them talk about shacking up out of wedlock other than to consider how Mary Cooper would react.

With regards to the idea of Amy proposing I think we also have to face the reality of the show writing itself into a corner here with all those "hurrhurr Amy can't get some" jokes in the past. When your running gag with this couple was painting Sheldon as an unwilling participant it's hard to rewrite that image in your audience's heads. So as a result the big steps have to come from Sheldon or else people are coming out of the woodwork with their pitchforks because how dare Amy pressure him into something he might not be ready for. I mean, they have been working hard all season long showing Sheldon as a lot more engaged and eager when it comes to his relationship with Amy - and yet the moment we get to hear/see some of Amy's desires some people were immediately up in arms. Poor girl can't win. Just imagine the reactions if she dares to utter the words "Sheldon Cooper, will you marry me?" and the lengthy discussions about Sheldon's reaction.
So yeah, I think the show has to live with the sins of the past and keep a delicate balance here. I do appreciate that the writers have made some big steps to make amends since the breakup and especially this season. But I'm not sure they'll ever overcome that dynamic of having Sheldon be the one to make the big steps to sell the next big milestone.

Agree@april and you said it much better than me, but that was my thinking too.....x

The same goes for when Amy makes a mistake. People complain that too often Amy is portrayed as the "perfect girlfriend" while Sheldon is always the one who messes up. And yet when Amy does make a mistake, suddenly she's this horrible pushy, manipulative sex crazed monster, and "oh she always does this" "how dare she?!"

Why can't the characters be allowed to have flaws again? Why must people complain that Amy is shown as a saint, and then attack her when she has moments of weakness?

I love my Queen of sass, but like you said, it feels like she can't win.

Got to remember that Sheldon is a main character both in screen time and how much Jim is getting paid so a lot of time so naturally a lot of stories are told from his perspective or he often makes the moves. Though this season if we are talking about screen time Amy has had a lot more and you have seen examples of a shift in some scenarios to her. But like others have said the show since pretty much day one has had the narrative that Sheldon is the one who has to budge or change the most in certain situations and old writing habits die hard.

With all that being said sure in some stories I wish they had switched perspective or seen a reversal of roles but it hasn't lessened the quality of the show in my eyes nor has it reduced the enjoyment I get out of it.

In terms of people criticizing Amy for showing desire for her boyfriend especially in the tag scene. Well I don't get that notion at all, I think it's perfectly fine, in character and natural. She is madly in love with him.

Honestly, after establishing all the ways that Sheldon gets randy because of Amy showing that she also gets hot and bothered for him is just fair at this point. And I really don't think she's frustrated with their intimacy cause make outs are undeniably a thing now. Even if they're not having coitus they can be intimate enough to satisfy whatever physical needs they have.

I certainly would like if that fantasy means they're inching closer to the moment when they do away with the once a year thing because that could be a sweet and fun story for them. But as long as they are happy with whatever they are doing I have no issues. With the progress they're making on this front they're shown to be rather satisfied with that which I can really appreciate.

There are people who criticize everyhting, the bad and the good. We have to ignore them, as it pointless to try explain them anything.

Anyway, Amy is madly in love with Sheldon so she desires madly  Sheldon  as any healthy woman desire their partners. So in this week taping tag scene is a very meaningful behavior of Amy as she is attracted to her boyfriend and she has her own sexual fantasies as every woman of this world. As fast as she can to get to where Sheldon wants to go is very healthy. I just hope they have a great time off screen as they got back home . Because they are like all lovey dovey now and I loove it!

I actually don't think Amy's unhappy about her relationship or at the, excuse me, warp speed at which it has moved in this season. The girl was gushing about Sheldon and how amazing and honeymoony it all is not so long ago. I am guessing (hoping?) that the way it will play out in the episode is that she wanted to join in with the girl-talk of bitching about your relationship. And of course the showrunners wanted to make that cutting-edge lactation joke. Which - at least the show is implicitly rebuking Amy and Penny for being babies there, I suppose? Yeesh.

As to the engagement: Amy's been putting plenty of brakes on the relationship (particularly sexual) in this season. She took coitus off the table at the time of cohabitation. She fled from Sheldon The Seducer. Painting her as pining and waiting and hoping for a sign from her aloof tormentor just for the sake of the lactation joke is just...well, @April reminded me that these writers are slags for a cheap gag. And it is very true.

But even if you think Amy's frustrated at not being engaged yet (at which, may I remind everyone, there has been no sign otherwise this season): she could ask him. This being Two Thousand and Seventeen of years in this our Common Era.  Waiting to be asked suggests that you're not interested in the outcome, but that you want a validation of your worth as a romantic object or whatever. And eesh, I suppose that's consistent with Amy. But even so? Dude, Sheldon has been bending over backwards this season to work past his boundary issues for you. He's shown he wants you multiple times. He organised brunch (brunch!) and cooked and laid the table for you. You cannot be in doubt that he wants you. If you ever were - again, Amy on-screen has never been shown as doubting her own romantic or sexual worth, and good for her.

Ah well. At least Amy geeks out about Renaissance dancing. That's something to look forward to.

Yes, this is 2017 ! I was wondering if someone thought of Amy proposing to Sheldon . It crossed my mind too. But I would love to see Sheldon propose too, so I have no preference either way as long as it is romantic and in character.

Sheldon has done many romantic gestures -he gifted her the lit-up brain scan , he named an asteroid after Amy, he cooked a surprise brunch for her, he defended her to others,he made that heartworm or Earworm or whatever speech for Amy in 9x10 and so on. The writers usually make a big show of Sheldons gestures. But it wouldnt be such a bad idea to see a romantic gesture from Amy, perhaps she can go ahead and propose to Sheldon ? It could be sweet, surprising and understated. If Amy has the power to put brakes on the relationship in 8x24, she also has the power to take the relationship to the next level !

But I suspect,  the idea of Sheldon doing romantic gEstures is more appealing and would garner more attention,  .

As for the latest episode, apart from the JP shampoo advert aND Amy making hilarious references to Renaissance dancing, I don't think there is anything new to look forward to IMO. It does sound oddly gendered, but tbbt has always been like that. The men are supossed to be the ones to stumble, fall, be laughed at, make mistakes, prove their love for their women , and ultimately make  gestures and also apologies. The women are passive recipients of all of this - they complain and sigh, when men screw up and they smile rewardingly when men prove themselves worthy of their love. It's usually that way , but i liked that one time  when they subverted the trope with the Leonard and Penny one upmanship about who will propose lol.

I'm not against for a proposal on the part of the woman, (They did it "a little" with Penny) but in this case the problem is "press Sheldon" so I don´t think they do something like that, and I will not lie you, I die of love for another speech of love from Sheldon (Like the heartworm one) and Amy´s face when he definitly ask her "Amy Farrah Fowler, will you marry me?" *sigh*

(Omg writers come on, do it!!)

I loved Shamy in this episode, both when they were together and when they interacted with Leonard and Penny. There was a lot of Shelnard and Pamy in the episode, which I loved, those pairings can be so entertaining. I loved that Sheldon tried to comfort Leonard, in his own way, of course, and that Leonard was aware of the value of their friendship (" If Penny leaves me you're all I got", I'm paraphrasing, I don't remember the right words, but it was sweet); it was very nostalgic seeing them playing games in 4A or carpooling, it sounded a nice shout out to the "old" times.  Amy was really high on sassiness at the beginning of the episode, she was playing the "popular girl" game with Penny, which is to me a very welcome evolution in their relationship. She doesn't see Penny as an out-of-reach model, and that makes their friendship less unbalanced. Of course, Amy in a way is still in her "teens", so sometimes that goes out of hand, which BTW is always adorable, but it really feels PAmy have reached a new level in their relationship.

Of course, Shamy were on fire. They are shown to be so lovey-dovey, without even trying too much. Amy reminded me a teen at her first crush the whole episode. She seems so happy right now, she gushed over Sheldon as she used to do at the very beginning of their relationship and had that adoring grin on her face. Shamy seemed to be so partners in crime in this one, Amy was so into the Godzilla jokes; also, the shower one is, well...interesting to imagine! Sheldon felt so comfortable in PDAs (the kiss was Shamy-hot, I would say....) and saying nice things to Amy in front of other people. It's clear that they enjoy being together, probably they are still in their honey-moon phase, but they are a delight right now!

Finally, I loved the mention of the RA, I think it's clear it's still on for them, and it has now a "no nostalgia" clause and a "I have to laugh"-clause; those two are not very romantic, but Amy gushing over signing their first RA was a nice touch.
