I also loved the promo!

Amy looks amazing in her dress and I would really enjoy it if they continue these kinds of dresses as her date night/girls night out look. The cut reminds me of the dress she wore to the date with Dave in 9x08 which I really really liked as well. <3

And Sheldon being so excited and tinkering with the engine is so cute! The tousled hair is especially adorable. teehee

As an aside: I saw Hidden Figures earlier today and Jim's character is wearing a wedding band the whole time and I was a bit surprised when I caught myself thinking how much I would enjoy seeing Sheldon wearing one. I'm usually not on team "let's marry them off ASAP" but you know, it looked good on him. :icon_wink::icon_cheesygrin:

Oh I thought exactly the same!! We are true shamy shippers :)

That wedding band suited him so well! If Sheldon wore one, I would grin like mad!

Could be they more sycronized?

Oh, I've been imagining seeing Sheldon with a wedding band for a long time now, so you're definitely not the only one lol!

I know we have already skipped the discussion about the last episode, but I just wanted to add this:

I absolutely love the bedroom scene with Shamy and Amy "You knew that you have hurt my feelings and I´m proud of you - for reasons that might have to do with my father. The bold word for me means, she is unsure what is has to with her father, but that is somehow has, otherwise she would have said "that had/has to do with my father". This might mean that she can´t remember, because her father died years ago when she was a child, so that´s why she is uncertain if it has to do with him or not. I guess the writers are leaving it unclear, because they are working on something, that might come up later. (hopefully!) Sorry for being off topic!

Now back on the track! :shy:

No i  kinda disagree.  Sheldon must defend Amy to his Meemaw, AND he must also defend/prove himself to Amy's family too ? In other words, Sheldon must do all the work and all the gestures , either way ??

I feel, Sheldon has faced enough ridicule and mocking from people including his friends and his own mother. Hell, even Amy believes she is his best shot and very few women would put up with him. What you suggest would be kinda cruel IMO. Another plot where he is not an ideal son in law would be again predictable.  Instead of appreciating different people, it would send a message that people need to confirm to society's standards , otherwise they are worthless. It would be manufactured melodramatic family drama more than anything else. It would be another episode of "Sheldon proves his love for Amy" or "Sheldon makes a gesture for Amy", "Sheldon improving himself for Amy" - and I feel I have seen enough of that.

What would be refreshing is if Amy's family are surprisingly positive/cool about Sheldon, and maybe if they HAVE to dislike Sheldon, I feel Amy needs to be the one to defend him. Sheldon has stepped up big time this season, he has always been faithful to Amy, and with his commitment to live with Amy, his brain scan gesture, his brunch surprise and what not, and I feel he deserves some defense. And I feel they should focus on Amy's own relationship with her parents , and make Sheldon a non-issue so he can just be there to support her.  Unfortunately, knowing these writers, they will not do this.

1000% yes. I would LOVE having Sheldon be embraced by Amy's family. Let him have a "shine" moment. Should we see an Amy's family scenerio I hope they see him as Amy sees him. To be fully loved for who he is and how happy Amy is.

That said, I have noticed lots of people want to know more about Amy's family and history. Interesting that I have had zero desire to know more. I guess I like the mystery of not knowing everything about everyone. The only person I am really curious is about Howard's brother we met once...

When did men start wearing wedding bands in the US ? They've been doing it here in UK  about 20 - 30 years now, although I don't know any personally.  They wore them in Germany before that, but on the right hand. I'm surprised men in the US were doing it all those those years ago. I don't remember noticing it on TV when we had I Love Lucy and Gun Law (Gunsmoke) during the Sputnik era. The Waltons is on a cable channel so I'm going to look. I wonder if Sheldon, as an admirer of preparedness, has already bought a pair of wedding bands ? What if Amy came across them ?

There are several reasons why I'd love to hear about Amy's family more. Knowing about their background has helped me to understand better all the characters in the show and the motivations for their behaviors and their actions. This is something which I feel quite missing with Amy, also because the few info about her mother that the writers gave us during the years are contradictory, in a way. Moreover, Amy is the only main character for which we don't know almost anything about her family, up to some days ago some of us were even questioning whether she was born in some mysterious way thought parthenogenesis, because it was really odd her father was never mentioned. That difference with the other characters (we even know that Stuart has both living parents...) irks me to no end, why is Amy's family such a tabu? Finally, and probably this is the main reasons, Amy has become such an important part of the show now thanks to her relationship with Sheldon. I have very clear she is a secondary character, but I feel she deserves plots on her own, which are not focused on Sheldon and his issues, once in a while. Introducing her family might be a way to do so. Probably that's true that "Not knowing is part of the fun" is not my motto at all!

PS: The post you quoted was not mine; have I mentioned lately that the quoting function in the forum is really a mess?

The ring Jim wore in HF seemed a wedding band and I think it was in his left hand. (Please help me @April if I was wrong, not sure which hanf). Here everyone who had married since 60's wear one, on left hand. Well there are people married who doesnt wear any as a choice or for religious beliefs.

Right hand here is for engagement bands ( dunno if it is a thing of us here as we have these two kinds of bands or if it is usual in other european countries). The woman still wear an engagement ring as wears an engagement band. Personally I think  is too much jealwery for an act of love commitment, lol!

About Sheldon having a pair of wedding bands, it might be possible as he is fan of preparedness. However I love weddings bands with a lovestory behind and it might be cool imo if Amy might provide them from her grandmother or from  a dear aunt who lived a beautiful love story.  I know, I am hopeless about romantic stuff :)

I think it may also depend on the kind of ritual people chose for the wedding. Nowadays, whether you choose a civil ceremony or a religious one, an exchange of rings is rather usual because it is considered a symbol and generally both spouses wear their bands afterwords. For sure Catholic ceremonies have  involved an exchange of rings for a long time and in general Catholic men wore their wedding band in the sixties in USA. Judging from the TV-shows from the sixties and seventies whose re-runs I've watched when I was little, there are some Protestant Confessions in which the wedding ceremony didn't involve an exchange of rings (at least back in that period), it was just the husband who gave a band to his wife.

I was speaking about past traditions, the discussion was originated by seeing Jim in a movie set in the sixties, when not every married man wore a wedding band in the USA. Nowadays that's pretty common, for sure Sheldon will wear one.

I've found a Walton's episode and there's an elderly chap in it with a wedding band on. It seems to be the nineteen forties. That's quite a surprise. I never saw a man with one until a few years ago and I didn't realise it was an American custom.

Here the engagement ring is worn on the bride's left hand, taken off for the wedding and then put back on later after the wedding ring is in place. It usually then stays on for life, or until it falls to bits. Sometimes an eternity ring is added to the rings or replaces a worn-out engagement ring.

Yes, I've often thought an engagement ring from an aunt would be nicer for Amy than the one that Meemaw was so grudging ( Her 'I suppose' ugh ) about. Perhaps an elderly spinster scientist aunt of Amy's who did secret work in the war, who's been an admirer of Sheldon's work for years, whose fiance died in a POW camp, is still alive and gives her ring  to Sheldon  for Amy ? Before the gang came up with it, I had the idea she'd been involved 70 years ago with a gismo that did what theirs is going to do, with the addition that it could become invisible. I wasn't half shocked when they had their idea and Zack asked about  a war application. I sometimes think Chuck Lorre  or Roy Clarke is collaborating with Kafka to write my life but I had no idea until then that the writers were reading my mind.

Sure shamy would get engaged first. We speak here about canon but we also enjoy to speak about what might be next for our couple and sometimes we enjoy to speak  about what Mayim and Jim are doing at same time as they do tbbt too. This time we are speaking about Jim's role in "Hidden Figures" movie. Have you seen it? It's a wonderful movie! :)

Btw, the chance of we see a wedding band on Sheldon's finger isn't so excitting? The man who hated lovey dovey and hippie things? Man, to me is really excitting, even we might not see it right now! :)

From what I gather it was a class thing in the UK, the working class tended to wear them but the upper class didn't. Which is still a little bit true to this day, for example the former Prime Minister David Cameron doesn't wear one and the high profile royals like Prince William don't wear one. I believe there was also this stigma around men wearing jewelry on their hands especially up until around the 1960's. Men would often wear a pinky ring and that was about it when it came to jewelry. I think from the 60's onward it became more common for a man to wear a ring and the vast majority probably do these days in the UK.

There are differing accounts on the origins of why women wear them, but the main reasoning behind it I believe was to do with progeny. Back then a woman wearing a ring symbolized that their children were legitimate. These were the days when having a child born out of wedlock was stigmatized and unmarried mothers with children used to receive all sorts of scorn. These days it's a lot different, more children in the UK are born out of wedlock than married families.

Off on a bit of a tangent there lol. But yes I would like to see Sheldon wear a ring should we be lucky enough to see them married on the show, there is no guarantee of that so more hope than anything.

I've never lived anywhere but UK and I didn't know it was a class thing. I thought it was  generational fashion, if anything.  LOL I must be upper class then (moi ? rotflmao)  because my father and grandfather didn't wear a wedding ring. Neither did my uncles,my friends' fathers, neighbours, nor any of my male teachers at school nor male tutors or fellow-students at college. ( I was one of the first women to attend a formerly men's college. )  Jewellery on men was virtually unknown when I was growing up, with the exception of inherited signet rings ( for sealing letters or documents ) which were unusual but not unknown and worn on whichever finger they fitted.  Medallions, crosses and earrings started appearing on men in UK about thirty years ago, but now you point it out, I can remember it was mainly among the scruffier and rougher types at first, and workmen. It was also when non-navy men were getting tatoos.

On my BBT calendar for this month  there is a picture of Leonard in the lab. It shows his hands clearly and he's definitely wearing a wedding ring. Howard showed us his from space. I hope Sheldon will wear one.

I think Sheldon  said Amy was weird without glasses as something harmless, as she had just said she doesnt see well without them. Many people who wear glasses heard that from their SO  in a playful way. He had just said to her he loved her the way she is too. Weird included, it was implied imo. :)

@Anita, I edited the post because I wrote "harmfull" instead "harmless". Sleepy brain, sorry.

Depending on my mood or what I'm doing that day, I'll wear either my glasses or contacts.  While hubby says I look good either way, he has said he prefers me in contacts.
in Amy's case, she wears her glasses consistently.  Therefore, she does look "weird" when she takes them off because that's not what Sheldon is used to.

OMG, I Just found in a fanfiction I've read there is a word"I love you just the way you are" very similar to a line from 10x14,it's "I love you exactly the way you are." This word is from The FearTrust Declaration published in 2015,written by Stephen Hawking(net name just be clearly) who is also in this forum. :-D .

I read it about two months ago , and I'm used to note the words impressing me when I read fanfictions.  I  am kind of a  fangirl for this Stephen Hwaking, but please don't tell him about this:icon_cheesygrin::icon_cheesygrin:.

Actually, I remember there are some same cases in other fanfictions. I just can't find out more at this moment.

Yeah my Dad wore a wedding ring, he was married to Mum in the 1970's in the uk, but Dad did a desk job. My Hubbie has a wedding ring which he wears on special occasions as he works with machinery / car & lorry engines a lot, not to mention the farm work - it's too dangerous to wear all the time in case his ring gets caught & he injuries his hand.
I think Sheldon will have a wedding band though when they marry and he's not doing any work which it could catch & injure his hand - also Leonard has one on the show :)

Oh my, my apologies if I didn't use it right I didn't mean to offend you! I've spent holidays in Spain (although that was a while ago). I often heard people use "coco" for "cabeza" so I thought that it was OK. But I guess it was a word they only use in that part of Spain.

I'm not offended, I find the phrase very funny. Coco is used in a coloquial way for cabeza very often. I have never Heard that expresion used with the meaning " going crazy" and I have found it very funny. I think I'm going to begin to use it if you give me the copyright

Of course you can, who am I to forbid you to use your mother language? :shy:

I´m glad that used the word correct, I was worried that I remembered it wrong. Unfortunately I don´t have the chance to write or speak Spanish.

Well me neither but I know almost nothing from spanish, shame on me. But I caught the meaning and it is alike with our expression: "Perder a cabeça!!"

And frankly, many fans might loose their head in next episode, lol!

Btw, there are fans who doesnt need to see shirtless Sheldon for having signs of loosing their minds. I have spent my day with a dear friend and for go to his place I need to take a train. So while I waited my turn to step in to train car, I was staring at the train conductor!

And that's  the way shamy is affecting my brain, lol! Lost case here! :icon_cheesygrin:

My husband is in construction and because of how dangerous it could be in his line of work, I told him he could take it off and wear on special occasions if he felt he needed to but his ring is called a "comfort fit" ring where the edges are smoothed out so it doesn't get caught as easily.  After almost 16 years of marriage, he's never had to take it off.
