I guess they got to meet during the Christmas holidays; that was not exactly a Merry Christmas for Shamy, but I'm sure meemaw has realized that they are very very happy together. And I agree, a vintage family heirloom is exactly the kind of ring Amy would like, I hope Sheldon proposes with that one.

Agreed. I really want Sheldon to propose with the ring. I felt that Amy and Meemaw came to a real understanding and bond at the end of the episode. I do hope they have another episode with Meemaw and Amy where they grow closer together. But from the way Amy teased Sheldon, I think she'd love to have the ring. And I think Sheldon would love her to have it. 

And I had a grandma just like Meemaw. She's protective as hell, but she'll love Amy like her own granddaughter.

I really really disliked  meemaw, not only she was mean and unfair to amy, she was to Sheldon too. Spilling the beans about the ring in that way was a low blow and hurt both of them, I don't know in what terms they are now, but basing my opinion only  on what we wached on screen  she deserves to have her ring back and amy a new one on her finger.

She was really rude...I would be OK with either version long as he puts a ring on it.

I understood her motives to some extent , even though I am not a fan of the episode. Sheldon is her grandson(and she does not seem to treat him as a grown up), did you really expect her to be reasonable, fair and objective ? Of course she is going to be unreasonably biased towards Sheldon and would not want to see Sheldon get hurt again. If someone  claimed they were my loved one's  "best shot" i'd be upset too.

Amy broke up with Sheldon , and what guarantee did she have that Amy will not break up with Sheldon again ?  Amy's comment about being Sheldon's best shot and Amy mocking the family ring as a "hand me down" did not help matters.

The good thing is that it was probably knee jerk reaction from both , and by the end of the episode they both seemed ok. Amy really did want the ring and also admitted that the break up helped her grow too. And Meemaw has probably realized that Amy had valid reasons for the break up, and that Sheldon is a grown man and i don't think they will bring up this drama again.

In terms of the ring I just saw it as just heat of the moment talk, if Sheldon was to give Amy that ring, (which I fully expect him to do, the ring means a lot to his family as it has been passed down the generations and Sheldon can be very traditional at times) Amy will gladly accept it.

I'm almost positive that all this "Sheldon learns to read emotions" and "Sheldon learns what's private" plots are there to prep for the role of being a good husband. That proposal is getting closer than we think

I always think back to when he first reveals he had a ring in his position and again when it comes up at meemaw's visit. I think that he makes it clear enough that he would like to give it to Amy someday. Amy will be thrilled to have it.

Sheldon is very practical and so is Amy to an extent. What if they just did it some random day and there is kind of a flashback episode? I think if they had a wedding it would be a Victorian style wedding with Cling On vows and preacher speaking cling on . Sheldon could wear his Data outfit and Amy a Victorian princess wedding dress with tiara...lol the reception. Could feature Victorian wedding games.

Amy doesn't know as much about the heirloom ring as we do. She might just think it's Constance's own ring. So far as we know, Amy hasn't even seen it and won't have heard of the history. Something over a century and a half old would usually appeal to her but not from 1985, and in the former wearer's lifetime no less. If the writers choose to forget that i) Sheldon's associations with the ring are unhappy and ii) Constance's approval was nothing more than a half-hearted, grudging  'I suppose' when Shamy were placating her, they might let Sheldon propose with it as soon as he thinks Amy's jets have cooled enough.

OTOH,  if the writers choose to remember all that, then Amy, who normally does love antique things, might not want one this time. She may prefer a ring from one of her own grandmothers, or one from the Cooper side which Sheldon is given, or something new, flashy and expensive for her friends to admire that hasn't been cheaply sourced by a cousin or recycled from a drill-bit.

Forgive me for asking this it may be really obvious...but what does OTOH mean? I am so clueless with this stuff like this. It took me a month to figure out TPTB meant the powers that be. I would love it if Amy wore Sarah Jane's dress. I think no matter the wedding it will be Amazing, charming and hilarious...

I don´t think that Sheldon was going to proposal in 8x24, he had the ring yes, but as he said in the meemaw episode "I was thinking of giving it to you, but then you broke up with me", he actually went to ask her in the 9x07 when he saw Dave kissing Amy and that was devastating for him but I think that was the first try for him (that we know). 

I do think that in Christmas meemaw and Amy became more closer, I would love to hear a reference, maybe Amy cook some meemaw´s  recipe and she remember the good time she had with her in Texas on or something like that.

I agree. I don't think he planned to propose in 8x24. Maybe it would have slipped out if the evening went well but I don't think it was something he was dead set on going through with cause otherwise I don't think he would have let that evening go down the drain that much.

I do think the shock in 9x07 together with the Meemaw incident and now the huge changes in S10 are believable reasons for a delay.

It's a nice thought but I wouldn't bank on it either, tbh. On all accounts the trip was kinda terrible so I don't think they spent much quality time baking cookies with Meemaw.

Proposal talk is the best!

I didn't really love the last two episodes and my expectations are pretty low, but I know eventually the writers are gonna have to get back to the early season fan fiction-y stuff... right? I mean, they have to!

I have to admit the "fight" in last week's episode wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be, so I'm happy.

I thought the engagement would happen during February sweeps but nope. Not even a Valentine's episode Now I'm counting on the end of the season. I hadn't made the connection between Sheldon trying to better himself even more before he proposes but it would be nice if the writers tie it up like that. Though after Bernie's elephantine pregnancy I'll try not to think about timelines too much lol.
