I still hope for a "redeeming" plot, if and when we have a chance to know her history and the reasons why she acted like that with her daughter. The few things we knew about Amy's mother before 9.03 made me feel sympathy towards her, I don't want let her go just yet! Maybe Sheldon, as you said with his political incorrectness, would be the one to sake the right questions at some point.

Yeah, I guess technically they could still redeem her somehow. But after having hoped for that for so long and all we got so far were increasingly weird anecdotes I'm not particularly eager to hold my breath for that.

Just as Howard and Raj played a vital role in Shamy meeting the same could be said for her mother. Without both influences they likely would never have met.

We really need to know more about Amy's life writers!

I honestly would find that a weird thing to do for a father that is presumably absent from most of Amy's life. If Amy had a close relationship with her father asking for the blessing would feel more fitting but essentially asking a stranger that is (again, presumably) basically just a sperm donor in one way or another, even if it's just pro forma, I would think that would offend Amy's feminist sensibilities.

If Sheldon wants to ask her family for a blessing then I think he should approach her mother instead. And this could also easily bring about either a storyline about finding out more about her dad or family in general (Sheldon is the perfect candidate to ask all the uncomfortable questions! lol) and maybe even play with some conflict with Amy's mother disapproving of their relationship somehow or whatever drama you want to induce here.

At this point I also wouldn't mind if it goes as far as Amy breaking ties with her mother cause the woman hasn't really gotten any redeeming qualities anyway and we know that she and Amy are not particularly close. And as sad as that would be because everything involving Amy's family is terrible in some way, I would love it if that leads then to a moment of not just Sheldon but also the rest of the gang consoling her. I really love the "family by choice" thing and the writers have spoken about that recently as well quite a lot -- so to have a moment with the gang affirming their "family status" with Amy at the centre would make me cry happy tears! So basically, what I'm saying is I want another group hug like this:

TBBTGroup_Hug.gif

But with the whole gang this time! <3

Awww, a group hug with the whole gang would be so adorable and heart-melting! :tender:

After her difficult childhood, she deserves a happy life full of love and support. Especially the story of Amy and the otter on heat, she was locked with, make me cringe every time I watch the episode. I´m sure it follows her in her nightmares.

Sure it would be weird, Sheldon asked Amy´s father, a totally stranger, for her blessing, maybe my example is not the best example for an intrduction of her father, but I would like to know, what happened to him and if there´s a chance for a happy ending or any other solution for this part of Amy´s family. Sheldon asking uncomfortable question would be funny, because that´s his thing. :icon_cheesygrin:

I don´t know what to think about Amy´s mother, because the stories we hear from Amy are contradicting. On one hand she says sweet things like her puzzle line and writes in Amy´s year book, because no on else did, on the other hand, she locks her daughter in the closet.

I guess sometimes we mean good, but we do the contrary, but realise it, when the damage is already done, like the fact, that Amy was too afraid to tell her mother that she broke up with, because she was fearing her reaction.

Amy´s mother raised her to become a good and responsible young lady, but the way she did was certainly not the best. Nobody´s perfect.

The best example is Sheldon´s mother. She´s very kind and lovely towards her son, but on the other hand it seems that she punched her children from time to time as well, when they were mean. just think of the episode where Amy played the harp and Sheldon shouted "Don´t hit me, mommy!" or something like that, because he had a backflash in that moment.

What I don't understand is, if Mrs Fowler is such an awful mother, why did Amy bother to contact her, to introduce Sheldon as her boyfriend?

To make her stop asking questions about her love life and to leave her in peace.

That´s why Sheldon assured her that she has a fullfilled sex life. :icon_biggrin:

I don't recall Sheldon telling Amy his mother hit him.

Yes, but Amy contacted her mother, not the other way around.

I´m sorry I can´t remember which episode it was, I only remember that Sheldon was telling Amy to stop playing a certain melody, because they reminded him of this song they use to play in shows, before they are showing backflashs. Amy plays the melody again and this is when Sheldon has this little backflash of his childhood, where he begs his mother.

Exactly it was Amy who called her, because she wanted to show her that her boyfriend exists, that she is not inventing him, like she did once, when she told her family that she was dating a breeder for horse miniatures.

Are you sure you aren't misremembering that from a fanfic or something? The only thing I can recall that has Sheldon kinda sorta having a dramatic flashback begging his mother was when he and Penny practised acting and his own fanfic scenario triggered some abandonment issues that led him to freak out and Penny called his mother like "Hello Mrs. Cooper, I think I broke your son..."

Edit: Never mind, of course Stephen found it. LOL It's not as dramatic as your description makes it sound.

All he said was "I'm sorry mommy, don't be mad at me."

Oh, it’s all right. She’ll forgive you. She has to or she goes to hell.

ETA: Is it sad, that I know all these lines from memory?

I'm actually re-watching all the seasons, that's how I try to go through the hiatus...and I've just stumbled upon The Lunar Excitation. Wow, our babies were...babies back then. They have come a long way or, to quote Amy,  a short way very slowly, so it feels like a long way, LOL! I'm looking forward S. 10 and all good stuff it may bring to Shamy. JP in a Q&A with his Chinese fans on Weibo said that he thinks TBBT will be on the air for "many more" seasons. I hope he is right and that those seasons are full of the sweetest moments ever for Shamy!

I hope Jim is right!

I would like to see an episode where Sheldon and Amy are speculating, how it would have affected their childhood if they had met when they were kids and then we would see their younger versions (a Shamy teenage version or them at the age of 4 would be adorable!)

Or what if they talked about their past and would find out, that they were near to meet each other years ago, but somehow missed each other?

Can you imagine Amy walking through her new school or university, when a foot suddenly hits her on her head. She looks around and sees that the foot belongs to a body which upper part is stuck into a trash can.

Amy: What are you doing in the trash can?

Sheldon: What a stupid question! I´m obviously stuck in a trash can, as you might have noticed.

Amy: I´m not blind.

Sheldon: Then could you help me out?

Amy: I´m sorry, but I´m against any physical contact.

Sheldon succeeds to put his feet on the floor and lifts his upper body , aiming the trash can in her direction as he continues: "Me too. I´m Sheldon Lee Cooper.

Amy: Amy Farrah Fowler.

Sheldon: Then would you mind helping me to pull it off Amy Farrah Fowler?

Amy grabs the trash can and starts to pull, the end of it, while Sheldon slowly moves backwards, to help her.

Of course they fall on their butts, after Sheldon is finally free.

Sheldon shakes himself to get rid of the remains of the trash can, before he looks at the girl in front of him.

They both look into each others eyes with indifference, but you can  clearly feel, that in this moment there´s something going on. Then Sheldon asks: "May I invite you for a beverage in the cafeteria?"

I've also started my summer rewatch and I hope I'll be catching up with you soon. It's always fun to go back and see how it all began. The first season though... OMG everybody is so young!! lmao

If he'd already met her, and she'd introduced herself, why didn't he recognize her name, when Howard and Raj told him about her, before he met her in Lunar Excitation?

I know that both is impossible. :shy:

OK I understand your confusion, I´m sorry, I forgot to say, in an alternative universe. They are just speculating how it would be if they met earlier. Because if they had met earlier, then Howard and Raj would not have been necessary. I´m sure they would have stayed in contact.

But this is all speculation, I just wanted to write this little AU to keep the thread alive, while we all are waiting for the new season.
