[Spoilers] Shamy: Season 10

Recommended Posts

The one positive thing I can derive of that is that whenever this "mothering" thing comes up neither of them are particularly happy about it. It's one of the few things that even remotely looks like a source of conflict in this otherwise pretty flawless season for them. I mean, this isn't Howardette in their "Bernie becomes Howard's ersatz-mother" phase, far from it in fact. While Howard was happily encouraging Bernie to take care of him like his mother did and she was playing along to some extend (right down to making him a chore chart with gold stars and stuff like that) with Shamy we've seen them both reject the notion that Sheldon is a child that needs to be taken care of or whatever. Amy doesn't want people to treat Sheldon like a kid and Sheldon doesn't want Amy to treat him like one. It has been brought up in several episodes so I will assume that this still holds true.

Now, the issue here is that Amy is helping Sheldon with things that most people learn while they are kids with the help of their parents/teachers/peers/etc. We know that Sheldon skipped a huge part of his socialisation because he was a busy wunderkind with a messed up family. It's no wonder he has no filter and still needs to learn what behaviour is appropriate in what situation. It's a long process and he certainly has made progress over the years but there's probably always work that needs to be done in that area.

The idea is that Amy is guiding Sheldon through social situations and he's willingly following her. I don't see this in and off itself as her mothering him. I even have to admit that I find the knee-jerk association with a "mother-child" relationship varying degrees of gross depending on how the point is made cause it comes with the idea that the mother is the only one allowed to teach you certain skills in life and that's inherently ridiculous to me. That isn't to say that I don't recognise that the show is occasionally playing up that specific angle and I would also rather see an end to it sooner than later. How can they do this then in the show when they don't want to let go of those "Sheldon behaves inappropriately" scenarios?

I think what could work here is let Shamy work on a way to communicate better and find a way to help Sheldon read certain social situations better. After all there are two more years of stories to fill for them, might as well give them something useful to do. So instead of what we got with the last episode it could become a bit more of a constructive project for them.

Sheldon had been growing  so much for last two seasons as he and Amy bonded more that sometimes it can be forgotten that he has a kind of delay yet about learning some things he should have learned as he was a kid or a teen. Personally I see him now so grown because his relationship progress with Amy  that I wish he could be reading better emotions than he does. However he is doing so much better now that makes me very proud of him and realize that I should be getting aware that he needs a bit more time about some things he doesn't reach it as the ideal behavior yet in some social situations. The fact he accepts Amy's help as she is someone he truly trusts make me even proud. And course I am proud too for Amy efforts to make him doing better in social interactions. They are really two peas on pond <3

Thanks so much @April

for your posts, as usual.  They had helped me much to realize I was being a bit impatient about our Shelley.  He will eventually make it with the precious help from his Amy. They are not perfect as any human is but they do their best and it is what really matters in end. :)

Why would a "gold digger" ever date an academic?!

Deaf Emily dated Raj for his money.

Christie didn't exactly date Howard for his money, but she did have sex with him for his money.

Just as he did to Leonard and Penny.

Most noticeably when his grandmother was visiting and he took instructions from L and P.

What Amy is doing is nothing new.

Wasn't it at the beginning of this season when Sheldon was giving sass to his mom and Amy in the car on the way to the airport after the Lenny wedding? He listened to his mom but not Amy and his mom told Amy she would get that respect someday? Wow. She was right. Amy has him whipped. He did exactly what was asked. No sass. He did not even question her. Lol. I suppose he must really trust that everybody is giving him time outs and behavior directions for his best interest. I hope he will learn when it is ok to stand up for himself as well as to show compassion. However,I think part of him likes being treated like a child.

I hope that too. That was a very rough summer for us, when they broke up two years ago.   :( I hope they will never leave each other, because they belong together <3 <3

Howardette part was easily the best while the Bert thing was kinda weird to say the least.

I think weird is a TBBT specialty.
Which makes me think of....

I think this season we are up for a cliffhanger of some sort. Obviously, I hope it doesn't entail Shamy in any way, especially if it is a dramatic one, and that it is something organic with the ongoing plots, and not pulled out of no where like S. 8 finale. Ideally, I would love that in the episode taped this week Shamy get engaged (after all E. 23 is often Shamy season finale) and then in 10.24 everything else happens. At the moment, as a possible Shamy cliffhanger, given how happy they are together, I can only see Sheldon in the verge of proposing and/or making a bunch of failed attempts to propose and we are left  all summer to wait for him finally succeeding, with the actual engagement in 11.1. Anyway, we'll find out soon enough, in less than 10 days...I can't believe the season is almost over!

My thoughts about this are similar with @mirs1 's so I won't repeat what she had already writen in a great way . I  'd like to add it is about time that ring came up for shamy go to the next level of their relationship and I see it happen or starting to happen in 10.23, it is usual the shamy season finale and 10.24 might be more focused on other characters  . This season has been wonderful as shamy bonded even more as they started to share a place and they could not be more married, the only thing left is the ring on Amy's finger and the wedding ceremony, which is great material for be developed in next seasons. As long as we saw before  this season end Sheldon doing something like setling a quirky and lovely plan to propose to his Amy, I personaly would not mind to wait all hiatus as we discuss all his options and only see the proposal in beginning of s11. The subject ring has to be approached again.

Sheldon, you know what to do about this. Please show us :)

Imagine...they could be taping Shamy's season finale, whatever it is, right now!!!! Isn't that exciting? TBH, I really hope we get more inside info for these last two episodes; we got really spoiled in S. 9, with Shamy's break up all over the news and so many Molaro's interview to "explain" (in his own very vague words) the various stages of their separation, Shamy coitus, Mayim's articles abut the show on GN, the celebrations for the 200th episode, Paleyfest and the casting of Leonard's dad, we had such a blast! This season is so poor in comparison...I get that with the negotiations going on up to few weeks ago, and apparently still going on for M&M, they tried to reduce to a minimum their interaction with journalists, but I really miss all of it. I hope that the launch of the prequel might help to get more focus on the media for the main show too, I even miss Molaro's interviews right now, LOL!

Gosh , reading your first paragraph was very exciting indeed! Hope it be true!

You are so right, this season is so poor in comparision with promotion of some pivotal events of other seasons from past . However the season has been so rich for our shamy 's relationship progress that personally if it would mean more great things coming for them without much promotion before season end, let's keep without it then, lol!

Seriously, how could this season fly so fast? I am so excited for this week taping, I hope someone nice from the the forum might attend the taping and help my anxiety  to slow down, hehe!

Btw, I just hope we be able to hear about Melissa and Mayim be 100% on board with rest of cast for s11 and 12. This silence is killling me, I want be sure! Sheldon has to have his Amy with him and Howard and Halley their Bernie. :)

@mirs1 & @spidergirl  hate to bust your bubbles but I got a chuckle out of it....

I can guarantee they're not taping anything RIGHT NOW being that it's ohhhh 4:00 in the morning right now in California.  I know, I know, you guys aren't in the states and it's hard to keep track of the time zones everywhere but I got a little chuckle out of your excitement.

But I'm as excited as you guys are!!

Hoping for an engagement but haven't seen any real signs that it's close and I agree with @mirs1 the perfect Season end for me would be a proposal in 10.23 and Shamy well out of any drama should the writers wish to add some in the season finale (especially after last year's tame finale).

With two more seasons guaranteed and 'assuming' that Mayim is back next year they may want to keep it until Season 11 which could either be done with a cliffhanger proposal in 10.24 with the answer being revealed in the Season 11 opener or they decide to do it later in Season 11. Then they can have their wedding in Season 12.

Maybe it's greedy wanting the 'Shamy trifecta' of Coitus 2.0, living together and an engagement in one season? In my defence I only raised the possibility after the jaw dropping shock of them living together lol. Its already been a fantastic season for them with a huge amount of relationship growth and commitment. Hell my prediction during the summer hiatus was definitely Coitus 2.0, maybe an engagement and no way they live together this season lol. Most of us didn't see them end up living together this season, some of us thought that would perhaps only happen after they got married with Sheldon's attachment to the place/his homeostasis and the writers telling us they were scared of splitting up the big three lol. So this Season has been amazing.

If they don't get engaged yet it wouldn't be the end of the world, hard to understand why it hasn't happened but they haven't really explored it yet. If they came up with a storyline without any angst or drama that does explore perhaps some of the inner workings of Sheldon's mind prior to a proposal I could be up for seeing that. Or if fans want Amy to propose that also is perfectly fine with me as long as it handled delicately, don't want Amy forcing the issue, perhaps arguing with Sheldon because she isn't happy it hasn't happened.

I'd be pleased if 10.24 is a build up to a proposal and we have a positive cliff hanger rather than a negative one. I am wondering is season 11 may be delayed by a writers strike. I'd expect Sheldon to do a lot of waffling before he proposes but these writers like to surprise us and be unpredictable so who knows?

I think with Sheldon it can go either way. In the past when he was ready he just went through whatever next big step Shamy made at the time. It may take him literally years to reach a certain point (and it's been 2 now with regards to the ring) but once the moment has arrived he's usually pretty confident in his decision. But then we also had the moving in with Amy this season where he was pondering quite a bit before making the final decision. (Then again that was also a relatively spontaneous development brought on by the flooding of Amy's apartment.)

Anyway, yeah, I also wonder if the writers' strike will impact the beginning of the season. The way the show is produced they can probably handle a little delay but I hope it won't be too bad.

Sorry-there will be a writers' strike?

ETA: Nevermind. I don't know what to think about this.

Not 100% certain but it's looming at the horizon like a dark cloud:

Negotiations will continue this week - fingers crossed they won't fall through! I don't want another 2007/2008 situation.

Especially for no cliffhangers that won't be resolved until Season 11.

At least the current season for most shows will end without problems and the writers will have the whole summer to negotiate their contracts. Obviously, that could produce a delay in the production of new seasons, but  IMO that it a better than interrupting an ongoing one, as it happened in 2007. I know it would be also tough to wait longer than we usually do if the season ends with a cliffhanger, but if I really have to choose, I prefer that to have a long hiatus in the middle of the season. Anyway, a possible strike would prevent us to see "our" writers at SDCC, which is my favourite hiatus thing...I really hope the situation will be solved before that!

It's not individual writers negotiating here though but the Writers Guild so they don't exactly have "all summer long". When negotiations fall through this week they'll vote on a strike and how long that one goes depends on when the studios are willing to meet their demands. There are plenty of shows that will suffer even when they're not airing over the summer. TBBT films its episodes relatively shortly before they're broadcast but the scripts are planned and written a lot earlier. Other shows film their episodes far longer in advance and thus need their scripts to be written much earlier as well.
