Just popping in - I watching my TBBT season 9 DVDs - they arrived today !!

just incase its of interest, they interview the actors asking about how they see the progress their to characters have made as couples, so Jim and Mayim are interviewed together - among many things Mayim says she was worried that once S&A had coitus they would be like a regular couple hand holding etc in lots of scenes , now that she knows different she's really glad the writers let Shamy be unique and didn't feel the need to have them " all over each other " all the time ( I'm paraphrasing here as I know we aren't allowed any DVDs content on here but you get my drift !!) anyway I thought that was an interesting snippet from an actors point of view !! Jim didn't look quite so convinced lol ( he's so our captain !!!!)

Thank you (and other members) for spreading the news about the tournament. 'Cause I didn't even know about the tournament until I saw someone share the news on Shamy thread, and then of course I went there and voted for Shamy xoxo.

You're welcome! This is exactly why I and others put the news on here - not everyone was checking the other parts of the forum or the main page.

~~~
And just to put this win into perspective:
According to Tripper, the site does this kind of tournament since 2009 and every year Bath Item won with Adhesive Duck in second, except in 2012 where due to an unlucky pair-off AD kicked BI out early and it ended with AD winning and Staircase in second (If that hadn't been the case it probably would have ended up with BI/AD as 1st/2nd as well). And I've seen quite a few people express the sentiment along the lines of "What is the point if the result is the same anyway?" I guess the spell is broken!
Opening Night is a worthy winner not just for our "team Shamy" but the whole episode was great from start to finish. <3
Big thanks to everyone who voted and spread the word!! You guys are the best!!!
Such a long time ago... ah youth! Regular hand holding subsequently became a thing in the relationship, as per that one scene at the cinema where Amy insists on it. Sadly, we didn't really get to see much of it on screen. But by the time of the Mars you can see the confidence and comfort in the way he holds out his hand for her to take. <3
Yeah, agree. I wish we could see more of that. Although I really loved the litle touches to each other in S9 The Valentino episode, as they were online with "Fun with flags" fans.  Hope more of that really soon :)
Completely agree! I remember waiting for the first previews anxiously, and the first scene I saw was Wil Wheaton dressed up as Spock at the SW premiere. I didn't even get to the Shamy scenes before I fell off my chair with laughter... Live long and suck it! Hilarious!:rofl:
Communication has been bad between them at times since early on in their relationship, well not communication per se more being honest about feelings or about certain subjects. But if you compare that from say Season 4 or 5 to now it's way better but obviously not perfect. Is it even realistic to have this notion that couples do have perfect communication all the time? I don't think it is. Couples do experience miscommunication, or hold back views on certain things which sometimes causes a row but the good couples find a way to work through it. For the most part apart from the obvious breakup Shamy have done that.
I agree it's very early, if we get to say episode 10 and we have seen nothing then is the time to really grumble.
I agree with you and others here (April and spidergirl1975) regarding the communication issue and how it was the major hitch that lead to the breakup. Since the reconciliation we've seen plenty of examples of that improving, though they take a step back now and then. That's okay since they both recognize it is still a work in progress. And like April pointed out, Sheldon has opened up more to Amy and isn't afraid to let her see his imperfections, of which there are plenty. The emotional side of their relationship continues to strengthen as they move along and that's pretty important.
Now, despite all of that progress I personally think the coitus issue is such a tease. Maybe if 9.11 never happened it wouldn't feel so much so (dodges rocks thrown by the rest of the fan base as I type this). But the show follows up that hot and heavy kiss at the door at the end of 9.10 with SEX in the next episode! Sorry, but I think it's more than fair for a fan base to believe that Sheldon gave in to some physical urges (finally) and saw Amy as not  just a companion but a lover. Most of us debated that point last season when it was suggested that sex was just a one time birthday gift from Sheldon and nothing more. Was coitus just some bone (pun intended) Sheldon threw to Amy because he was happy to get her back and wanted to keep her? I think we can all agree that would be pathetic, and I for one don't want to entertain that idea. I do, however, understand why some people are beginning to wonder if that is the case. I wonder from time to time too and have described coitus in 9.11 as starting to look like a one-night stand (clearly it's not as a relationship exists, I only speak of the sex act itself).
Communication was a stumbling block in the relationship to be sure, but cmon--Amy was also interested in a normal healthy physical relationship too that included sex. She has said as much to the gals and Sheldon (D&D and Prom for example). So the show having them doing the deed and then marching on a dozen episodes later without touching on that again (hell forget sex, not even one kiss or embrace!) as if was just a blip on the radar has me a bit puzzled and yeah, a bit frustrated.
According to Soopysue the S9 dvd has an interview with Mayim in which she expressed relief that the characters aren't crawling over each other. Well Mayim, it's understandable why you would think the characters would go that route because they finally had sex! Gee what a concept, two people in love finally consummating the relationship and showing physical affection towards each other from then on lol...but like Mayim I, too, am glad the characters were not written as two star crossed lovers pawing at each other since 9.11. I think, however, that writing them in the other extreme with zero physical affection for the rest of S9 was a bit much too. And with no word yet that we have a show beyond S10 I hope things pick up.
For sure TBBT is a lot more than the topic of Shamy and sex and I'm glad for that. I love all the characters and the world the show has built around them. The Shamy coupling is a part of that, and now that the genie is finally out of the bottle and sex of all things is on the table you can bet the subject will be a hot topic around the water cooler as S10 begins :)
Sorry if this sounds like a rant, it's not meant to be--had to purge the summer hiatus angst and the new TR's have me excited in a couple of different ways!
I think your post sums up the current state of affairs very well.
Especially agree with your commentary re: Mayim's idea of what makes Shamy special. Like, it doesn't have to be all or nothing. I don't think anybody really wants them to be super touchy feely every episode or have some sort of PDA whenever they're on screen together. That just wouldn't be Shamy so I guess in that sense I'm glad, too, that the writers still kept them in character. But there's a whole lot of wiggle room between one extreme and the other. And I think Shamy now can deal with a bit of physical affection beyond the bare minimum of casual touching like we saw after 9x11.
Of course, with the strengthening of their emotional bond there lies a lot of potential for that to come full circle in that their emotional closeness might lead to more physical closeness. I'm curious how the writers will deal with that! :D
It looks like my prediction of a Shamy wedding in 10x2 will not be coming true.  I based this on Amy's comment in 6x2 that she and Sheldon would wed in exactly four years.
So, time for a new prediction.  The fifty years of Star Trek is coming up, along with the release of the Adam Nimoy documentary honoring his father and the Spock character, "For the Love of Spock".  Last season Sheldon was interviewed for this documentary, and during that interview Penny and Leonard learned about the engagement ring.  Also, during that episode, Sheldon took the ring and went to propose marriage to Amy.  He was not successful, because he saw Amy kissing another man and returned home without proposing.  I think it would be fitting to have a Star Trek episode this fall involving the Spock documentary, and culminating in a successful marriage proposal by Sheldon to Amy.
I would call this, the Arc of the Ring.
Hey there, fellow Shamies! I've been on the road for the most part yesterday and while I could read the forum I didn't really have time to write down my thoughts on this episode. Much of this has already been said by others, apologies if it feels repetitive.
Many thanks again to @Tenji and @Denyy for the TRs and the delightful BTS bits. *Bert voice* "You guys rock!" *badumtish*
Anyway... Shamy thoughts on 10x03:
- I love that the girls are making their men breakfast. It's really sweet and supportive and I take that over the much worse alternative of them being mopy about it over a glass of wine (as previously feared in some of our speculations). Like many of you, I'd love if the writers would start to use such a scenario to indicate she stays the night, but baby steps, I guess?? As for Sheldon not wanting to go to that party it's understandable, he doesn't like parties so nothing surprising about that. Though in the end it becomes a joke how nobody else from CalTech wanted to go either. LOL
- I'm happy to have a PAmy plot. It feels like it's been ages since we had one with just the two of them. <3
- Bert revealing that Amy is the coolest girl at CalTech is amazing! And I can easily believe it. When she started at CalTech she had already made a huge progress in her social skills and we've seen her being friendly and helpful towards her colleagues indicating good working relationships. Meanwhile, Sheldon is still Sheldon, and while he has a few grad students and people like Dave gushing over him because of his intellectual reputation the people who actually have to work with him are less thrilled and students are not that keen on his lectures, to say the least. The idea that Sheldon is only considered cool because he dates Amy is really giving me "human credentials*" vibes here which delights me.
*For those who don't get the reference, it's from an interview with David Duchovny where he links an anecdote to the Scully and Mulder dynamic, but some of us Shamy fans being X-Files fans as well this has also come last year as being applicable to Shamy: "I heard a phrase once, somebody was talking about their wife. This was a person who was very inept socially, not the wife but the man. There were many things said about him that weren’t kind, and he said, 'My wife, who is lovely and social and everything like that, is my human credential.' And that makes him a human being, because people think, well if she can stand him, he must have some humanity within him."
- On the guys' side Sheldon's struggle with getting the maths done in time while being sleep-deprived and high on caffeine is giving me university flashbacks. I feel you, buddy! The impending doom of a deadline you can't fulfil because the project was just too much to handle is emotionally and physically exhausting. I don't think we've ever seen Sheldon deal with something like that. Yes, elements of it in different episodes sprinkled over several seasons? Sure. But not in that combination all at once. I mean, he never really had to deal with any deadlines to begin with. So that's a new one. Additionally, he is the guy who can whip up the maths and a paper to Leonard's idea over night, and even drunk he can throw together some numbers to check if their idea could work. So although he's made maths mistakes in the past there's a somewhat earned confidence that he can cobble together the maths for their new AF prototype in time. But it seems like he's stretched to his limits here and I quite like that this is something that doesn't come as easy to him and that with this project he really has something he has to work hard for this time.
- Last but not least: OMG the Shelnard in this is giving me all the feels here!! <3
the best post on this website!! i have been thinking the same thing for a while!! and i totally agree about amy being sheldon'a human credential, just as scully was mulder's human credential!!!
Cheers!
One of the reasons I fell in love with shamy at first scene (S03E24) was that feeling they would eventually meant to each other but that route would be complex and uncertain to work due their personalities quirks and genius minds. I am fan of the "less is more" as it concerned about couples in movies, books or tv shows as I am fan of "It seems I hate or dont like you at all but I really love you". So shamy is the most interisting couple from TBBT, even I really enjoy  Howard and Bernardette as well.
And your post didnt sound like a rant, it sounded like a fan who knows well the characters that were talking about, as it makes them thinking about characters lives developing. To me, it is really what me attracted much to  this forum: I just love to read what fans like me think about all these characters and their lives issues. Some agree with each other, some not, but everyone learns something and thinks deep about many useful stuff as this tv show , even being a sitcom, brings many uselful subjects to the table of fans to speak about and learn about.
It has been almost 10 years watching a group of young nerds becoming a older nerds, with the chance of being happy in their personal lives without stop being always themselves, I mean, they have been growing up but not changing much their personalities at all. :)
I love reading here and everyone's opinions and ideas. It makes me look at things differently. I may be in the minority but I think since the hoarding episode and Amy stating that he made her sign a nondisclosure before sex that there are things going on between the 2 of them, we just aren't hearing about it. They aren't the couple that express a lot of PDA.  I did feel that the hoarding episode lacked just a tiny bit of something like a handhold,hug or even a touch.
Also at Paley Jim voiced that he wants more bed scenes and pillow talk. :icon_cheesygrin:
