[Spoilers] Shamy: Season 10

The genitals line does sound funny and it is totally the sort of thing Amy would say, having a boyfriend and friends has opened her up a lot but she is still very quirky. Anyone surprised that Amy was seen with her harp again? I thought since her accident Mayim couldn't really play it anymore? Again another reference to Amy's quirks which is great. :icon_cheesygrin:

There was no way Amy was going to forget about the ring, she won't push at least not anytime soon to get it all resolved but I would imagine she thinks about it a lot.

Yes, I agree on that...In a way I think this season tptb are a bit returning to their roots. In the first part of S. 9 the show altogether was focusing more on "drama". I didn't mind that, I liked that they were experimenting new stuff and a new way to tell their story, but as a matter of fact Amy's character a bit suffered by that, both her science-side and quirky-side were neglected. Now in these first three episodes it looks like she is back up and front; she is as quirky as we expected her to be (not only in the premiere, but also in E. 2 and above all E. 3), she plays her harp (I'm curious too about that, maybe Mayim plays in "play back", but I hope her hand has recovered so she can actually play the instrument herself), she is the coolest girl at the university and apparently she will get a science plot (again, not over the moon about the subject, but still...) I'm curious about what's next for her.

Let's throw out a hypothetical out there that I don't think will happen but which could be fun.

2016 is a Leap Year, going back several hundred years in Ireland and Britain there was this belief that a woman could only propose marriage to a man on a leap year, this was changed to a leap day but the original premise was that it was over the course of a year I believe. What happens if Amy gets fed up of waiting and proposes to Sheldon? What would Sheldon make of it? There could be some reference to the Leap Year historical context, Amy especially is into old English customs and references.

I don't think it will happen as I believe that he will want to be the one who proposes and so will Amy I would assume. But it throws an interesting idea out there and for some fun discussion.

I thought it could have been a very clever way to get to a proposal and I would have liked it very much, but before Amy knowing about the ring. Now it appears unlikely. Amy knows Sheldon will propose eventually when he is ready, proposing herself could mean not respecting his needs. Anyway, with those writers, everything is possible...

That blows a theory of mine : I didn't know the custom wasn't universal. I also didn't know it was a thing of the distant past, although it's mostly referred to with humour in magazine articles etc. Some close friends of mine actually carried it out in 1984. They also got married on a Friday the thirteenth.

I had the idea that perhaps Sheldon believed the 'tradition' was a real non-optional social convention and thought he had to wait for the leap year to be over. :)

I was happily surprised! I've almost given up seeing her with the harp again because of Mayim's injury but it's nice to see that either her hand has recovered enough for her to play or they just found a way to have her, you know, act as if she's playing. Either way though, it's nice to have the harp back! :D

It started out originally in Ireland and Britain many hundreds of years ago (5th century Ireland if wiki is correct) but I believe it was also adopted all over the world (I assume there may have been some religious connotations involved). Women even now still do propose to men on leap year days, just to hearken back to tradition and old folk tales.

Did you know in Finland if the boyfriend turns his girlfriend down he has to pay a fine, enough fabric to make a skirt? Meanwhile In Greece it's considered bad luck to get married in a leap year.

Agree! For the tapping reports shared so far of the 3 episodes tapped, there is a kind of sense of "old school tbbt" in the air, I mean, there are some scenes that got back to the original spirit of the show and the voices of characters seem more kind of "free" and genuine. I hope this is a good sign for more seasons to come. :)

I wonder what Sheldon told Amy that was rude. His response to her was after Amy called his mom attractive and that he should get used to her dating men. Could it have been a comment about Amy dating other men after they broke up? It could have even beem unintentionally rude. (Just throwing ideas).

You know, I have thought same here. Maybe what he said could be a rude thing but not being intentionally rude to Amy?

Usually Sheldon has no sense of rudeness, but he doesnt offend Amy in purpose. At least as if he wanted to , if I make sense with my words... :)

You do make sense. Maybe he made an observation about her dating around and he didn't put it delicately. It might also come across different depending on how upset he is by his mom and Alfred.

Regardless, let's not forget that S & A are like all other couples (hard to believe, I know :D) with problems of their own. There's no magical switch for anything (9.23 showcased this).

It sounds like one of those scenes that we have to watch to really judge.

Great opener for S10! So happy for Lennys out there, it sounds like the episode they shouldve gotten in 9.1. My thoughts:

Harp returns, yay!

Genitals--eww, TMI dude! Im sure Im gonna howl when I see it while simultaneously getting grossed out. Made we wonder if "rude Sheldon" remarked to Amy about the bandaids she had surrounding HERS after another bikini wax lol...

Mary and Amy sharing a moment in the car, yay!

Amy jumping the gun at what she thought was a proposal coming--awww poor gal! Funny and old-school Amy getting ahead of herself, something about weddings brings that out of her. Im shocked that she isnt wearing that tiara!

The funny thing about Amy's excitement and probably disappointment over a perceived proposal is that I recall a few of us on here in S9 predicted the possibility that the writers might use the ring/proposal as fodder to squeeze out some laughs at Amy's expense. This might be the start of it lol. I hope not, I can excuse a couple of these in the future but it will get old and cruel (as a shipper) if it becomes the S10 running gag.

Looking forward to seeing the season premier!!

Oh, I agree that's TMI, but we all knew that sooner or later the moment of one of them sharing some private stuff should have come, LOL! On the other hand, that is in a way something very sweet; in her inexperience, Amy can't think about anything dirtier to say about Sheldon's private parts than they are a "sight to behold" and in his inexperience Sheldon thinks that is a compliment people usually share in bed, LOL!

As for the possibility of many bazinga proposals, I think there's a chance for this to happen some other time, but  it won't be that often. I think it's very IC for Amy to expect something big happening on special occasions, like a wedding or Christmas (if they have a Christmas\New Year Eve episode), or VD (if they have a VD episode). But I don't think it will become a running gag; it's good to remind the audience at the beginning of a new season that Sheldon has a ring and Amy expect a proposal to happen anytime soon, but being obsessive over that without actually going for it might also upset the audience.

I agree, lol! It is sweet and funny as they are so genuine as they speak about anything: even something that usually couples dont say in public ( or just dont think or say, lol), for them it is so natural. It is like shamy is and we love it!

I dont think these bazing proposals will be that often either. Writters have been sometimes too slow or even a bit "lazy" in writting developing field but usually they come up with the right solution soon or later. Shamy proposal will be something to remeber and "burst" the tv show rating, as it was their first love making. I still trust them as I have trusted so far, even I have not agreed with everything they wrote about shamy or even about the others characters.

I believe as soon as we know if the show lasts after season 10, the answers to some questions will come up. I have this feeling since what was said in Comic con.

I'm at work so will fully comment later !!!

love the sound of this ep !! But laughing so hard at Sheldon's a " sight to behold "genital joke lol !!!

You  are right, it cracked me up too. I can picture Amy saying "Sheldon, your genitals are a sight to behold !" before or during sex.

It is just one of the things that few people  except Shamy would be caught dead saying, in the sack or otherwise . Hence, it seems   comical and in character for them

I can't believe we are having this debate but I could have sworn that once in one of the early seasons that Sheldon did kind of brag about his genitals being aesthetically pleasing or functional. I could be way off but if he did indeed say that and was given a compliment by Amy that backed that up then no wonder he was kind of bragging or satisfied lol

Yep it was The Skank Reflex Analysis S5 E1:

Quote

Sheldon: For the record, I do have genitals. They're functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Erm change of subject?

And we complain all the time about the writers' lack of continuity...They have been pretty "consistent" about Sheldon prowess, LOL!! Ok, I promise, that was the last one, now new topic...when do you think the promo pictures will be available? I want so badly a photo with Amy playing her harp!!!

BTW, @heres2U, thank you again for the TR and all the other details you shared to us! You rock!!!

I was thinking about the car scene some more. I think that now that Amy and Mary have started to have scenes together there will be several "you'll get it one day" or "nice going" interactions between them. You know, Mary passing on to Amy some of her ways :icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin:

Mary has always been Sheldon's kryptonite.  Leonard and Penny both knew that and used it against Sheldon.  Now Amy knows...Sheldon is doomed..LOL
