Garry Marshall, Happy Days creator, dies

Recommended Posts

Actor, director and writer Garry Marshall died last week at the age of 81. Widely recognized as an important player in the history of the sitcom, Marshall was the creator of Happy Days and its various spin-offs, along with developing Neil Simon's The Odd Couple for television.

On the big screen, Marshall was also known for directing films including Pretty Woman, Runaway Bride, and The Princess Diaries. Marshall's acting credits include Murphy Brown and guest spots on shows including Monk, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Without a doubt, Garry Marshall is responsible for launching a ton of careers and making some of the most classic television series of all time. Surely, it is sad to hear of his passing, but the man lived a remarkable life and will be remembered for his hugely successful works, both on the little and big screen. (Who else remembers his role of a man dressed as the devil, whom the Sanderson sisters mistake as their "master," in Hocus Pocus?) I wonder if CBS' The Odd Couple, now entering its third season and on which Marshall served as an executive consultant, will pay homage in some way.
