  5. TBBT                                                         5.8

Top ten in 25-54 Women:

          Show                                             25-54 Women Rating

  1. TBBT                                                           3.8

  8. TBBT                            Weekend               2.1

  10. Dr Phil                                                         1.8

I've gotten the question as to why the 25-54 rating.   For daytime shows, the women 25-54 is the more important ratings.  As you can see, TBBT still does rather well with this demo.   There is a show called Weekend Adventure.  It is a group of nature programs broadcast during the day on weekends for kids.  I've pulled it as it is not late Afternoon/early evening programming.

I'll get to the regular post in a bit, but TBBT dropped below a 3.0 demo with a nine year low of a 2.7 demo.  It also had its first non Daylight Savings Time show below 14 million viewers since season three.

Let the speculation begin!

Why has TBBT dropped so low this week?

Week 22 Overnights and Demo Breakouts for 17 February, 2017

Any show name or mention of a show last week, that includes a "*",  indicates that show was a repeat.  This will be helpful for comparing the numbers between weeks.

CBS ran a new episode of TBBT, 10.16 The Allowance Evaporation.  It pulled in a 2.7 demo, with a 10 share and 13.30 million viewers.  This was down three tenths in demo points from last week, down two points in share, and downand 880,000 viewers from last week's show.

TBBT was number one in demo with that 2.7.  This was down three tenths in demo from last weeks number one.    In second between Grey's Anatomy with a 2.0.  This was down a tenth from last week's number two show.  In third was Scandal with a 1.7,  up a tenth from last week's number three show.

For viewers,  TBBT was first with 13.30 down 880,000 from last week's number one show.   In  second was  The Great Indoors  with 8.11  million viewers, down 340,000  viewers from last week's second place show.  And in third was Mom, with 7.70 million viewers, down 90,000 viewers, from last weeks number three.

In the 18-34 demo, Grey's Anatomy  was first with a 1.5, down a tenth from last week's number one show.  In second was TBBT with a 1.4, down two tenths from last weeks second place show.   In third was Scandal at 1.2, up a tenth from last week's number three show.

In the 25-54 demo, TBBT was first with a 4.0 demo, down four tenths from last week's number one show.  In second was  Grey's Anatomy with a 2.5, down a tenth from last weeks number 2 show, and for third, there was The Great Indoors with a 2.4, even from last week's third place show.

Broadcast viewing was down at 8 PM last night, going back to normal viewing numbers later in the night.  Hour long shows, at 8 PM showed an increase in the second half of their show.  This could be due to the presidential press conference  last night or the drop could be for other reasons.  Don't know at this time.  I'll look at the trend next week to check.

Why has TBBT dropped so low this week?

I imagine a good portion of California doesn't really care right now, as it is bailing itself out of storms, and the rest of the country seems to be getting an early spring.

Sadly, I seem to be unemployed as the former ratings guy on the IMDb board for BBT. :'(

Week 23 Early Household Ratings; 24 February, 2017

Shows indicated with an asterisk (*) are repeat.

TBBT  ran a new episode last night, 10.17 The Comic-Con Conundrum  at 8:00 PM on Thursday.  It had a 9.0 Household Rating (9.0), with a 15 share.  This was even in Households and share from the last week's episode.

In households, number one for the night was TBBT with a 9.0,  even with last weeks number one.   In second was Grey's Anatomy, with a 5.6/  Household rating.  This was up a tenth in Households from last week's episode.   In third, was Mom with a 5.1, also up a tenth in Households from last week's third place show.

In Share, TBBT was in first with a 15 share.  In second was Grey's Anatomy with a 9, even with last week's second place show.  Also even in share was the third place show, Mom at 8

Last week, the 9.0 household and 15 share produced a 2.7 overnight demo.  Two weeks ago, the 9.0 household rating and 15 share produced a 3.0 overnight demo.  It will interesting to see what we get from last nights show.

Week 23 Overnights and Demo Breakouts for 24 February, 2017

Any show name or mention of a show last week, that includes a "*",  indicates that show was a repeat.  This will be helpful for comparing the numbers between weeks.

CBS ran a new episode of TBBT, 10.17 The Comic-Con Conundrum.  It pulled in a 2.8 demo, with a 10 share and 13.22 million viewers.  This was up a tenth in demo points from last week, even in share, and downand 80,000 viewers from last week's show.

TBBT was number one in demo with that 2.8.  This was up a tenth in demo from last weeks number one.    In second between Grey's Anatomy with a 2.0.  This was even from last week's number two show.  For third was a tie between The Great Indoors and How to Get Away w/Murder with a 1.5,  down two tenths from last week's number three show.

For viewers,  TBBT was first with 13.22 down 80,000 from last week's number one show.   In  second was  Grey's Anatomy  with 7.61  million viewers, down 500,000  viewers from last week's second place show.  And in third was Mom, with 7.51 million viewers, down 190,000 viewers, from last weeks number three.

In the 18-34 demo, TBBT and Grey's Anatomy  were tied for first with a 1.4, down a tenth from last week's number one show.  In third was How to Get Away with Murder,  both the 9 PM and 10 PM episodes came in at 1.1, down a tenth from last week's number three show.

In the 25-54 demo, TBBT was first with a 4.1 demo, up a tenth from last week's number one show.  In second was  Grey's Anatomy with a 2.5, even with last weeks number 2 show, and for third, there was The Great Indoors with a 2.3, down a tenth from last week's third place show.

Thursday viewing overall continues to fall.  Grey's lost half a million from last week.  This is the first time TBBT has been below 14 million for two straight new episodes since the last two episodes of season five.

What are the best nights anyway?? In terms of overall viewership?

Viewing Levels on Friday and Saturday are the lowest of the week.  I don't have the full HUT(Households using televisions).  The best I can do is show the percentage of US homes tuned to Broadcast networks.  Each Percentage point is equivalent to 1.2 million homes.   As for people, that 14.7 household rating on Thursday, is around an average of 20.13 million people.  Remember, these are averages, and individual time periods may have more or less than these:

Sunday            11.7    (Sunday is lower as the CW network does not broadcast on Sundays.

Monday           15.3

Tuesday           17.9

Wednesday     15.0

Thursday          14.7

The last three weeks on Thursday, with basically the same shows, have been:

23 Feb               14.7

16 Feb               15.8

09 Feb                16.2

As you can see, Broadcast viewing has gone down, for the last three weeks.  With fewer households watching, there are fewer potential audience members.

Any particular reason why ratings for "Allowance Evaporation" and "Comic Con Conundrum" were  low ? They scored around 2.8.

Last year around this time the episode about Sheldon's birthday , Celeberation Experimentation,  aired and it pulled 16 million viewers and a 3.8 demo rating. A drop of almost 1 whole point.

That was the 200th episode though. And they promoted the heck out of that episode.

Contrary to what @skull said, the 3.8 for last years 200th episode, was among a run of six straight 3.8 demos.  Last year those six episodes also had an average of ~15.8 million viewers, a drop of over 2 million, compared to the last two episodes this year.    There is only going to be one more new episode running before Daylight Savings Time starts.   The history of the  show's ratings shows that after DST starts, there is an average drop of three to five tenths of demo point, so we could be looking at  demo ratings in the mid twos, for the last five or six episodes this year.

Now, even with this being said, the show is still number one for non-sports shows at 3.29 for demo (although the last two weeks have brought it closer to Empire's 3.21 demo, which comes back on the air in March).  So we'll have to see how things go.  It's also currently number one for viewers in Live + 7.  However, again, the last two weeks have brought it down closer to NCIS.  Current trends would have This is Us taking over the highest demo for Live + 3 and Live + 7 on a weekly basis, although the yearly will be between TBBT and Empire.  For viewers, it will be between NCIS and TBBT for all three measures (Live + SD, Live + 3, and Live + 7) for the year.

Final ratings will not be available until Monday.  Sorry for any inconvenience.
