Tensor Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 I just found some info* for the "Are more women than men watching the show" argument. This season, TBBT is sitting at 46% men, 54% women. Now, that looks like it's a show that more women than men watch, and if you are looking at raw numbers, in percentage, you would be right. However, television is usually dominated by women, and that shows up in where TBBT ranks in terms of where the women/men split falls. There are currently 96 original series on Broadcast, only 18 of them do men viewers make up at least 50% of the viewers. TBBT comes in 28th (out of 96 remember) with the most male viewers. Most of the shows that pull in more than 50% males viewership are either sports or comic book" dramas. Shows like The Flash, Supergirl, etc have a predominantly male viewership. Almost all the other shows above 50% are regular dramas. There are five comedies that pull in a higher percentage of male viewers. Three of those are animated (Family Guy, The Simpsons, and Bob's Burgers), all of those at 55% or higher. The highest percentage live action comedy show is Brooklyn 9-9, with 51% male viewership. The other live action show is New Girl, at 47% male viewership. Despite all that, TBBT has more actual male viewers (not as a percentage) than any other scripted show. It has 6.7 million male viewers, on average, every week. The only shows that draw more actual male viewers are Sunday night football(65%) at 13.2 million, Thursday Night Football (66%) at 10.4 million, and 60 Minutes (56%) with 7.2 million. So, TBBT pulls in the most male viewers for any scripted show on Television. I will now include The Walking Dead as it pulls in 52% male viewership, with 6.1 million total male viewers. These are the top five in actual male viewership. Just as an FYI, "South Park" has the highest percentage of male viewers at 74%, but with only 1.72 total viewers, it comes to only 1.3 million male viewers. *Data at Spottedratings.com

Tensor Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Several things about this. Yes, it's right, for the time period Jan-Nov 2016. And the selected demo ( Viewers with Live + 7). This was pointed out back at the end of December. There are a couple of problems with it. One, it doesn't include the first three weeks of Sunday Night Football, as those fall out of the "TV Season". If you add those, then SNF is in first. However, with the last couple of shows for TBBT, is now ahead. In terms of Live + Same Day ratings, SNF is far ahead. Also, since that came out, the difference between NCIS and TBBT has gotten a lot bigger. Also missing is the 18-49 demo. In that, TBBT is no better than third, behind SNF and The Walking Dead. It's basically choosing particular dates, demos, and when it was viewed. The big thing is to remember advertisers look at the C3 ratings. The number of people 18-49 that watch up to three days after it's broadcast, while watching the commercials.

For daytime shows, the women 25-54 is the more important ratings. As you can see, TBBT still does rather well with this demo. There is a show called Weekend Adventure. It is a group of nature programs broadcast during the day on weekends for kids. I've pulled it as it is not late Afternoon/early evening programming.
