1005 'The Hot Tub Contamination' (October 17)

That was absolutely awful. Not one laugh. Terrible episode where we are gifted with more Shenny bitching about their partners. The Lamy was OK only because it hasn't been overdone and as incessantly as the  Shenny but it was still unfunny.

The only part I cared for was Mr Lorre's Vanity Card with his Nondenominational, Nonpartisan Prayer for America.

Amen, brother.

I found the actual hot tub part HYSTERICAL.  I think all 4 of those involved killed it (and they were the comedy relief in the episode).  Sexy Howard towards Bernadette--classic and so loveable.

I wasn't as touched by the Sheldon admission to his daddy cheating story as I thought I was going to be.  BUT I will say this week I really enjoyed Leonard/Amy because we so seldom see these two bond really naturally (and they should it makes sense).  And it felt real.  I didn't mind the Shenny parts because honestly it was crystal clear Sheldon wasn't out to get "some" nor Penny egging him on.  She says "whats really going on"...she knew something was up and Sheldon we know is a horrible liar.  And Amy never had concerns of him straying.

Now I'm really enjoying Lenny this season.  Yes they banter about settling and all but I personally finally feel the mutual love from these two.  They've softened Penny (thank goodness because her snarky ways of S8-S9 I hated so much).  I appreciate softer Penny (reminds me of the earlier seasons of Penny).

I also appreciate the constant reminders that Lenny is NOT taking Sheldon back.  The writers getting us familiar with this being a possible done deal (god I hope so).

Also they keep reminding us of the "once a year" "not romantic/mocked by Lenny" sex situation with Shamy.  Don't think this is being done by accident...I think they are reminding of us this as that mark is coming up.

First time we get a mock proposal--and it was cute and adorable and Lenny watching was hysterical. (the hug was a shippers dream).

We are also getting stronger Amy each week.  She is holding firm and its refreshing to see he caved with the bathroom sked FOR HER..not Penny not Leonard but HER.  (cause so many hate the Shenny factor and how he opens up to Penny and not Amy)

So overall was it amazing like last week--no BUT its being well received critically by several sources & I enjoyed it.  Probably the first heavier episode (but not too heavy) of the season.  And next week is back to laughs.

I despised the episode. So incredibly awful. Sheldon and Penny was just so ridiculous. IMO it felt forced, inorganic and I don't feel as it did add anything to the overall story. So.... Raj goes from dating 2 women to none? Consistency much? He says it is by his own choice but even that sounds false. Then again, it's Raj so...who cares? Howardette was a little funny, but mostly meh...

Raj didn't say it was by his own choice. He said it was by their  choice but he hadn't yet told anybody what happened. There's a story to come. I can't wait to hear what it is.

I enjoyed this reveal and that he was hiding it from everybody else.  Think about it...he is surrounded by all these well established couples.  His best friend is having a baby...and here he is and can't hold down a steady girlfriend...and when he gets one for a decent chunk of time he ruined it (alebit dating two women).  And it makes sense he  kept this a secret.  More to follow on this one for sure.

I think it's likely either Bernadette or Howard will ask him what happened. They were pretty taken aback when they heard. If Raj continues to offer them support then they will likely want to reciprocate.

who knows...maybe the nurse or doctor that helps deliver the baby becomes a new love interest for Raj...who knows....

And to whom does Raj make his revelation ? Poor old Stuart, the man with troubles of his own and a fellow-sufferer in can't-keep-a-woman land.

Stuart needs to live with someone else if he can't pay his bills but wants to keep his shop open. Possible solutions for Stuart are :

i)  Now Howard's committed to working at Caltech Top Secret Lab for up to two years, Stuart could be the  childminder. He loved being a carer while Mrs Wolowitz was laid up. And he likes being at Howardette's house. ii ) When Amy goes home and Lenny don't want Sheldon back, Sheldon could share with Stuart  and help with the costs while Shamy look for a house. I can imagine some laughs there.

Also, I've got no problem with Sheldon telling Penny about his father in this episode. It was all done so he could explain to her why he doesn't want to hurt Amy.

And I'll say once again that I don't agree at all with the notion that Sheldon opens up to Penny more than Amy or that he tells Penny all his secrets.

Agreed, he has given up his ground with Amy that he hasn't with anyone else. And in regards to his biggest secret of all only Amy knows about the storage unit.

I don't know.

I have a friend (known her for over 30 years), who knows more things about me and my life, than any other person on earth, including family members, and past partners.

But does she know about the Youtube rating system? :icon_biggrin:

Uh-huh, and he actually made Amy sign an NDA cause he doesn't want anyone else to know. Very different from his talk with Penny in this episode which read as him trying to explain to her where his fear of hurting Amy stems from.

Hi, I wonder if you could tell me which critics you are reading.....which you think are best to follow.  I pick them up randomly , and did note that today there were quite a few good reviews!  I'd appreciate your advice.  GInny

Right now, the ones that review it immediately after airing are:

-tvfanatic.com

-cartermatt.com

-tvovermind.com

Now the bigger outlets only really do a review every few episodes (ones like Hollywood Reporter, TVInsider, etc).  They tend to do "big episodes" or "big Guest" ones as they are usually invited and have writer interviews attached.

and then there is always our girl Jessica from Glamour who is a true fangirl like so many of us.

I'd watched Speckerman repeated for three hours straight than watch that again. Penny naked in the hot tub couldn't save that episode.

I'm not sure how i feel about this episode wasn't memorable enough,i liked the Howardette part the Lenny stuff was good too.Didn't think much of the Car seen between Sheldon & Penny complaining about stuff that  in Penny's case probably does herself. It was good that Sheldon was willing to compromise for Amy that's some more forward movement for him. Also the reason for his triple knock i would have  believed had i not watch the show since the beginning  he used to knock normally his first triple knock was in  1x10 on Leonard's bedroom door.

I thought it was a good episode, sets up a few things. Most obvious being Raj in terms of finding out why he didn't want to tell them he's single. Something interesting seems to have gone on there with Raj, maybe the writers will stop joking around with Raj's sexuality and explore it ? Howard and Bernadette continue to crack me up with the pregnancy stuff, like how they are dealing with impending parenthood. Penny and Leonard showed some real maturity at times. Amy's anger with Sheldon was once again melted by her love for him, I think in that regard her venting to Leonard helped (rather than stewing alone in her apartment about it, she can't storm off as usually happens while her apartment is being fixed). Penny and Sheldon ? One of those scenes I love with those two, either one manages to tease something personal out of the other that they'd not reveal to their respective partners or anyone else. Sheldon knocking three times because he walked in on his dad having sex with another woman ? Makes perfect sense character wise. If something happens that Sheldon does not like or fears, he devises ways of avoiding it. Knocking three times is not that bad as far as Sheldon goes. But this is what I liked, Penny was able to get Sheldon to put the fear aside and work things out with Amy. In past seasons, that would have meant Sheldon and Amy sniping at each other for a few episodes. That issue is seemingly resolved so the writers can move onto the next one.

Okayish episode, I give it 3 out of 5 stars, saved by the hilarious hot tub scene. For some reason I find Bernadette's attire half way through pregnancy very convincing. Could someone tell Kaley to stop glancing into the cameras, I don't understand why she is breaking the 4th wall without purpose that much. Also continuity error, Sheldon's toothbrush is electric with an UV light; it would be imho uncharacteristic of him to go back to a plain brush. With Emily and Lucy gone, I hope they bring back that female vet doctor Yvette for Raj, kinda liked her attitude.

I thought it was good, not great. I did laugh out loud in several places. I liked that Penny/Leonard were quick to not like the bathroom schedule when Sheldon asked them and to split up Shamy so they could cool down. I like the car conversation with Penny/Sheldon but kind of expected more out of those scenes instead we got the explanation of the 3 knocks. I liked the Leonard/Amy convo and how she has got Sheldon to change in small steps. I liked the Howardette scenes, and as her belly gets bigger her boobs look bigger too! (my man noticed that). The whole Raj/Stuart stuff was funny but also kind of weird. Loved the hug at the end, it was sweet and not forced.  this is all my opinion.

Raj and Stuart.imo, it was ok, not very funny. Unless they are a potencial couple? That would be an interisting story in tbbt universe, as it is not the first time  that a episode  might hint they really enjoying  hangging out together. But it is not likely to happen in this  show.

I found this line interesting, because I was thinking the exact same thing.   Raj and Stuart became buddies while Howard was in space.   Now that Howard is going to be vesting more time with Bernie and the baby, I guess they are becoming buddies again.   Raj even offered his place for him to live, but where will Stuart sleep?   We can assume the couch, but I will not be surprised by anything TPTB pull.

Should bother both ships that Sheldon's major reveal is to his friend's wife and not Amy. Also a little upset that TPTB reverted to Penny bitching about Leonard to Sheldon. Just can't deal with their pseudo-sibling relationship any more. Ruined the episode for me.

Hopefully a flashback to him explaining it to Howard while they are in the emergency room waiting to have the boots removed from his ass?

She's not just his friends wife though, she is also one of his closest friends and vice versa. In fact you could make a strong argument she has overtaken Leonard as his best friend or she is certainly pushing him close.

It either bothers people or it doesn't, I am a Shamy shipper and have zero problem with it. But I have always liked the friendship they have and see zero threat to his relationship with Amy. There is no romantic Shenny and never will be.

I am a believer in not bottling up emotions or concerns so it's better out than in. Sometimes that's let out with your significant other, other times it may be with a friend.
