3ku11
I guess in theory they could choose different actors to play different ages in Sheldons life. Malcom in the Middle type show. I won't watch it, I've had enough of Shelly for a life time lol. This prequel idea though may indicate the direction TbbT is heading. If Season Ten is the last, Or a potential Season 11. And it's makeup. Guess watch this space, huh.
Lady in Red
Another reason to alternate young actors is that it would give a young actor more time to memorize Sheldon's speech, which I imagine to be complicated at even a young age. I think Laurie Metcalf would make a fabulous MeeMaw in the prequel. She has aged into the role.

legacy99
I really don't think there will be a season 11. If there is it's only purpose will to be a lead in to the new young sheldon show so there won't be any need for some of the existing characters Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk

There is really no story there. Bargaining chip for next year contracts? I can't imagine even the most diehards watching it. It's not adult programming. What's there to watch. He would have no friends. He would get beat up a lot. The reality is the people who watch the show watch it now is to see JP, Shamy, and the rest of the cast. Science certainly has little to do with the show and people already know his early life.

The reality is I watch the show because I find it funny and its story telling amazing. I can only attest to why I would watch the show. 1) Sheldon is an engaging character. They have given us tidbits as to why he is the way he is. I'd watch it play out. I would love to see the snowball in the cat scanner incident actually play out. 2) Personally I write a Fan Fic about a young Sheldon. I would like to see what I got right in portraying his family. Also I have a child who is autistic. I would relate to Mary's struggles in it. 3) If they make the other characters rich enough. Like they have done in TBBT Young Sheldon will just be a peice of the show. They will shoot it multo cam so there is a lot of potential there. All we know is his side of what his family was like. Maybe the way he perceived them was different? I would like to see the writers vision. Edited November 26, 2016 by boys3allc
3ku11
Yeah personally Im not intetested In a seeing a young Sheldon walk in on daddy dearest cheating. Or his first thesis. Or him graduating at 16 was it? Or maybe his first kiss. ^ While I agree in theory about the possibilities. In reality finding the right actor, time slot, climate, cast, writers etc. It doesn't always come together. TbbT was very luckey, everyone is so perfectly casted. That's rare. Right time slot and network too. I have doubts with who they cast as a young actor. I just don't think it's worth exploring. It's prob best like Meemaw kept in fanfic . But it's not up to me. Season Ten I believe we'll be last though. I think it's time. I guess the idea of a Sheldon Prequel show while I can understand is compelling for some. Exploring what he is, how he is. I guess they could cast Eddie Reymain as a young Sheldon lol. I just think theirs way too many gray areas. I guess personally I have no interest in seeing young Sheldon, how he is. Why he is. Sheldon was always to me in a comedy sense funny, because he was so deadpan. Seeing a young Sheldon deal with life without a Leonard, or a Penny to react too. I don't know, I'm not sure it would work personally for me. It also screams s10 is the last. And they could replace TbbT with this Prequel Show. Lady in Red
There is a lot of love between Sheldon and his mother and grandmother. I'm thinking that these characters will be key to the new show. He has a lot of difficulties (and yucks, I'm sure!) growing up, but these important family relationships will be what keeps the prospective show from sinking into a depressing pit of unhappiness. Certainly most of the audience who watch the show now have no interest in that. His life up to start of TBBT was a depressing pit of unhappiness. The guy had lawn furniture when Leonard moved in. I have friends who actually raised a Sheldon. Fortunately they were both university professors, and much better equipped to raise a child who was a mathematics prodigy. We would get Christmas cards from them every year, and they would talk a bit about their older son, who was bright, but not abnormally bright, and then there would be pages and pages about their younger son, "Charlie's" accomplishments, which were truly amazing. There are lots of issues to deal with. How to school such a child? What to do about friends? As Sheldon has pointed out, such a child has no peers. In their case, they decided to mainstream him in public school, and he took university classes for enrichment. That way he could develop proper social skills but still not get bored. During his junior and senior years in high school, he was the top scorer in international mathematic competitions. Of course, he won full scholarships to prestigious universities, and currently is a professor at a university. Kind of like our Sheldon. 3ku11
But we'll a lot of those issues be funny? I have doubts. If they are thinking Malcom in the middle type show. Sorry that just won't work. Prequels is going back to the beggining. Ppl most likely have their own pre conceived notions of what Sheldon is. We saw Malcom develop naturally from a teenager. The Sheldon Prequel is the other way round. We have seen him as an adult with all his issues. Where he is on the spectrum when it comes his OCD, Aspergers. Too see that kinda like TiVo reversed +30. I don't know kinda depresses me lol. Guess I'm saying great some are excited, me not so much.

I'd like to know what life was like for Missy growing up. Having a twin of the opposite sex with all sorts of mental and behavioural issues alongside genius-level intelligence can't have been fun all the time. I sometimes wonder how she responds to her son if he reminds her of Sheldon. It would be interesting if we see that in S11 if the Young Sheldon series goes ahead. djsurrey
Of course I'll check out a prequel series. If it looks to be good and entertaining I will watch it. No need to prejudge it.
JE7
We know J&K negotiate as a team and Jim goes it alone, it may well be that Jim is using this as a way to boost his production company by making this part of his required package to stay with the show. We are assuming the idea came from TPTB, I think it may well have come from Parsons himself trying to strike while the iron is hot. Nothing wrong with that and it could be a smart business move. It however is not a show I would have any interest in watching Edited November 26, 2016 by JE7

BigBangEnthusiast
Not sure how legitimate this source is: http://www.showbiz411.com/2016/12/18/calling-all-casting-agents-big-bang-theory-spinoff-hunt-is-on-for-an-8-to-11-year-old-Sheldon Edited December 19, 2016 by BigBangEnthusiast
Tripper
I think Roger Friedman is a respected source, so as far as early-stage gossip goes I think that's credible. Of course, just because the casting call news is likely to be an accurate report, it doesn't mean we're necessarily that much closer to this project actually coming to TV screens. Carlos
I would never watch a TBBT prequel based on Sheldon's life specifically because my reason for watching TBBT is Lenny, and also because the possibilities, based on canon, are of no interest to me. I have no interest in watching Sheldon grow up. He's being written very inconsistently as of right now, and if they continue with the same writers I think the character assassination would be complete.
