It hasn't been announced as the official title, it's what Les Moonves (CBS chairman-CEO) called the prequel at the conference where he made remarks about TBBT renewal and the general shape of the CBS network.

Right, it could undergo several title changes, before hitting the airwaves. That's what I meant by "working" title. Needless to say, I hope that's not what they decide.

I'm not sure if this has been posted elsewhere already or not, but we now have a working title... Little Sheldon. Am I the only one that finds it a little cringe-worthy?

I think just plain "Sheldon Cooper" is better than Little Sheldon.

Well this kid be studying Jim Parsons from the pilot? He's going to portray Sheldon as he was as a kid. We know from what Sheldon said he graduated at 14. Or was that Dennis Kim lol. His mother was not what he wanted, but probably what he needed. Imagine if his mother growing up was Bev? Lol. Their was already a show centred around a boy genius called Malcom in the Middle. So be different I'm presuming. In any regard, I don't see a lot of this being all that funny. Malcom was seen from purley a centric perspective. We've already seen Sheldon as an audience. As an adult. So a lot of the audiences impressions and assumptions of "Little Sheldon" we'll be based on that. So they are going to have to consider that. Just don't see how this could work. I mean a lot of what's Cannon In the original show. Might change based on what we see in the Prequel.

With the parent series all but officially renewed for 2 more seasons, I really thought that this prequel would disappear. I mean, I saw it as a bargaining chip for contract negotiations, as a way to continue to cash-in on the established brand. Do we need this series? No. Am I really hoping that the pieces don't come together and something ultimately stymies it going to series? Absolutely! I know that sounds pretty harsh having not actually seen an episode of the proposed series. It's not that I have anything against the actors they have chosen... Rather, I'm more worried about preserving TBBT's legacy. Could the new series be a hit? Maybe... However, the more likely scenario is that it crashes and burns. If Little Sheldon is short-lived, it's not like it will be remembered by the masses 10 years from now, while TBBT will live on in syndication, as well as on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital media. Still, we, the passionate fans, will remember it as the sad attempt it was to make a few extra bucks. I'm trying to stay neutral for now, but it's growing ever more difficult to hide my disdain.

I hope it would as well, but then again this might have played a huge part in getting Jim to sign on for two more years. So I would take ignoring this thing and being able to watch more of TBBT:yes:

‘The Big Bang Theory’ Spinoff ‘Young Sheldon’ Officially Ordered at CBS

CBS has officially given a series order for “The Big Bang Theory” spinoff “Young Sheldon,” Variety has learned. The half-hour multicam, currently with an unspecified number of episodes ordered, will premiere in the 2017-18 season.

Created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, the series follows “The Big Bang Theory’s” Sheldon Cooper at the age of 9, living with his family in East Texas and going to high school.

Jon Favreau is directing and executive producing the first episode of the series, which stars Iain Armitage as 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper — played by Jim Parsons on “Big Bang” — as well as Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan. Armitage is a triple-threat is currently starring on HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” playing Shailene Woodley’s on-screen son, while Jordan will make his acting debut opposite Josh Brolin in upcoming indie “The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter.” The cast was rumored to be set earlier in March.

“Big Bang” showrunner Steve Molaro wrote the pilot script. He will executive produce, along with “Big Bang” creators Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, plus Parsons. Lorre, Molaro, Parsons and Todd Spiewak will serve as executive producers of the series, from Chuck Lorre Productions, Inc. in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Jim Parsons will also narrate the comedy as Adult Sheldon.  <more in the link>

Makes me wonder if they'll make use of the "unreliable narrator" trope which could be good way to circumvent any canon issues.

I like the idea of  adult Sheldon be the narrator. It would be more interesting imo if he gave side notes that we could relate with some stuff Shelfon had been telling about his childhood through tbbt seasons or with his actual age linked to others characters's opinions.

Depends how it is done but I think it would have been better if the only involvement Jim had with this project was behind the camera. The danger to canon is real. On a side note I watch the Goldbergs and they have a narrator but that is a very different situation entirely for example an actual interesting backstory and premise.

But what do I care, not watching it.

Course it would depend much how it is done, as it might be a delicate issue the way canon would be told. I am not much into this project either  but I would not say it is bad without try to watch at least  two episodes.

My biggest issue about this prequel is the way the plotlines would be written for keep me, an adult, interested in a 9 years old genius childhood story that I know for Sheldon's voice it was not easy as he was an isolated child with a dysfunctional family. How this is going to become a comedy it is my only interest on the show.

As much as I love The Big Bang theory, I still think this is probably one of the stupidest ideas anyone connected with the show ever had.

I'm certainly leaning more towards your stance on it for sure.

But my final point on this would be that they know their show and more importantly they think they know their brand very well by now. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if they think they have a niche for it and maybe it does better than we think. I guess time will tell if they have overplayed their hand or not.

I'm just concerned about Cannon. Love or hate Sheldon. He's one of the most unique characters in tv history. We know what tptb are like on TbbT with changing Cannon. What if I don't know find out Young Shelly got laid At 18 or something lol. They wouldent go that far. But who knows.

If I had faith in what the writers were doing with the show NOW I'd have more faith that they could pull this off later. But I just don't at this point. I wish I could.  Like Kathy2611 I was amused to see the majority of people on the facebook page coming out very much against it early yesterday. I wonder if they look at that to see what the comments are at all?

I think they're both preferable to "Young Sheldon", which has shades of Young Frankenstein.

Personally, I don't like the sound of a show, about a lonely, socially inept, OCD child genius.

It was Sheldon.

He entered college at the age of eleven, and graduated at age fourteen from college, summa cum laude.

Until Dennis Kim came along, he was the youngest person to receive the Stevenson Award.
