Yeah, more I think about this , more I have sure that could ruin some Sheldon classical quirks scenes of his past. Because there are things that  are better to be told than to be seen....

That bit in bold says it all IMO. The only way I can imagine this being even tolerable would be if the voice-over were Sheldon telling the story as he did in TBBT, and the events we see are stikingly different from the way he tells it.

From the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel citing Tribune News services    "Young Sheldon" stars Iain Armitage, who's appeared on Steve Harvey's "Big Shots" and in the Nicole Kidman-Reese Witherspoon mini-series "Big Little Lies" .  Lance Barber will play Sheldon's father, Zoe Perry plays Sheldon's mom, and Reagan Revord and Montana Jordan will play his siblings.     Parsons, as the adult Sheldon, will serve as narrator.  -Associated Press

No matter how it is received, I bet they'll let it run for whatever number of episodes they order. If I'm not mistaken, it is to air behind Big Bang, so it will get decent sampling and the ratings should be relatively high. Whether or not it comes back the following season is another story. However, if it is somehow tied to contract negotiations, it may last a few seasons. At this point, everything's just speculation. We'll have to wait and actually see what happens. For some reason, I have this preconceived notion that CBS will have promos with adult and young Sheldon high-fiving...

It will be interesting to see how it fares with certain demographics after the newness wears off. When @Tensor does his ratings breakdown the show still still scores really high with women (in the 25-54 age bracket). Will they watch this show?

While the show does well with all 25-54, the only breakout I get for 25-55 women is for syndication.  That is a bit skewed as a lot of the syndication, outside of TBS, runs during the 5-8 PM time period.  A slot that typically has a higher percentage of women.

The title is terrible, but the project grew to me after the casting was announced. I think they might have nailed the main character, that kid seems really good. Let's see, hopefully the script is better than the title, LOL! At the moment, my prediction is it will last one season, if they are very lucky two, but it will not survive the main show, but you'll never know...

Still hoping against hope here it's just a working title and they'll come up with something more catchy in the next months. ugh

What a great idea ! I like the sound of that. I hope it's what they do.

Does the fact that they have him outfitted as he's actually on a football team seem way off to anyone else?

Why would it? That's George Jr.

The guy in the pic is George Jr, not Sheldon.

I hate how they keep calling it a TBBT spinoff while it has nothing to do with TBBT at all...

It's more of an Anthology tbh.

It has the same producers, at least one of the same writers and Jim narrating a story about Sheldon's younger self. Sounds like a spin off to me.

Quote

“Big Bang” showrunner Molaro wrote the pilot script. Lorre, Molaro, Parsons and Todd Spiewak will serve as executive producers of the series, from Chuck Lorre Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Parsons will also narrate the comedy as Adult Sheldon.

They could possibly introduce the characters as a flashback on TBBT. Who knows?
What year was Sheldon nine?

No, I think spinoff is the right terminology.   By the way Mork and Mindy was a spin of from Happy Days even though set in a different time period.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mork_%26_Mindy#Premise_and_initial_success

If you think Young Sheldon is unlikely to succeed I'm wondering what people were thinking of Mork and Mindy. Robin W. was an unknown before appearing on one episode on Happy Days.

Spin-off is indeed the correct term. It's simply a show that is derived from some already existing fictional work usually by focussing on some side aspect of that original work - e.g. one character, event or taking place in the same fictional universe.

How about "The Golden Boy from The Big Bang Theory"?

You know, in case there are still some people who don't know this is related to TBBT, they might as well put TBBT into the show's title. :icon_cheesygrin:

Big Bang's Little Bang?

The Big Bang Corollary?

The Big Bang Lemma?

The Little Bang Theory?

The Kid With The Two T-Shirts? (requires slightly specialised knowledge, that)

The Young Texan Tribulations? Nah not catchy enough, though perhaps accurate if canon is to be actually preserved.
