Nothing strange that Penny has flip-flops.

California has very mild climate so it can be warm even in December. The boys on the other side wears way to much clothes to be living in California.

I live in Israel, it is hot but you don't wear flip-flops in December, especially not when your friends wear at least 2 layers...I son,t think California is much warmer than Israel

Last week it was in the low cost 80s here in long beach and the beachs were packed bathing suits everywhere flip flops are year round wear here

Ironically it used to be pleasure that was the strong motive. Hopefully the show turn it around after the Christmas break . In any respect, this episode is this Seasons Itchy Brain. The way Sheldon was just so unreasonable with Leonard. Interesting enough I look at the polls. In the number of ppl who voted. This got the least amount of votes 24. The most was the premiere with 76 votes. First episode all season where it went below Good. Okay Is majority.

I thought that Christopher Lloyd's character was almost an homage to his character, Reverend Jim, from Taxi. Johnny Galecki is a self-proclaimed fan of the '70s classic, as are Molaro, Lorre, and Prady, I believe. After casting Judd Hirsch as Leonard's father, this might have been their way of paying tribute to the former sitcom. Who knows? Maybe the BBT team approached Lloyd at the James Burrows tribute, in addition to Mr. Hirsch.

-That painting is from all the way back in Season 5. Maybe they should've done more callbacks than just it. If they did I missed them.

-It's never funny when the girls lack any sense of humor or joy about Sheldon and Leonard's quirky items. Like holy shit I didn't know girls were such hard asses 24/7 until TBBT stepped in with this stereotype. They could easily be recreating the classic seasons if the girls knew how to have personalities. Spock Clock was neat, and I've never even seen Star Trek.

-Too well known in the flag community? Well considering the types of guest stars he's had on the web series, that should almost be true.

-Give Raj a girlfriend that appears more than just one time in an entire half a season, and give Stuart a hobby. I already just know that the baby is the beginning of more Raj/Stuart crap when I thought we were zooming away from all that. Unfortunate that Bernadette's water breaks after such lousy build up.

-"Alright I Tried, that should be the title of your autobiography". "It's a good thing you're cute". The only Sheldon quips that implemented a cunning edge.

-Leonard doing something I'd almost imagine Sheldon doing with the flag clothing.

-Giraffes were way better than the zebras.

"At least my nose is naturally brown". I feel like Raj's ethnicity used to not be his defining comedy quality.

-I don't care who Christopher Lloyd is, his shtick in this wasn't amusing or original. Just forced and unpleasant.

-So, uh, one week from now until the cliffhanger's follow up. Why didn't they just air this December 8th?

Overall, I found this episode disappointing. Sheldon was a complete and utter tool. All of the ‘Sheldon is evolving’ crowd should be moaning in despair, as his behavior towards Leonard and Amy was juvenile, irrational, and something most people would find unforgiveable. TBS is currently running episodes from the early days of TBBT. Sheldon in these shows is intellectually smug, condescending, demanding, and essentially incapable of relating to others on a human level. Sheldon 1.0 at his best. More or less the Sheldon we saw weekly until Season 4. Then, the evolution of Sheldon began. Perhaps it was the advent of the Shamy that started all this; though at inception, Sheldon and Amy were essentially the same character. If anything, Amy was more Sheldon than Sheldon. Then, she started spending time with Penny and she became a different person. To the point where Sheldon asks, “What happened to you?” Next, the writers started on Sheldon. Turning him into something more akin to an overgrown adolescent who was prone to incredibly childish behavior such as acting stupidly over the scale of model trains; they even had the OCD germophobe put an N scale train engine into his mouth.

Over the succeeding years Sheldon has passed through a variety of iterations. Which version we’re up to now I could not begin to guess. On this forum I have observed the endless posts lauding the ‘development’ of Sheldon as a person. How much he has grown and, in the minds of many, improved. I have never hidden my feelings of dismay concerning how this character has been altered into something almost unrecognizable. And, the tolerance he receives from his friends is frequently unbelievable. In the beginning, Leonard, Howard, Raj, and even Penny, understood that Sheldon usually did not understand that the things he said, or did, were out of bounds in normal human interactions. Now, evolved Sheldon, knows very well that his behavior is not acceptable. This stretches the idea that his friends would continue to tolerate him. His behavior in this episode would likely be enough for most people to tell him that they’d had enough. Installing a stranger in Lenny’s apartment was so far out of line it would be a deal breaker in almost any relationship. Yes, I know it’s a sitcom and plot sensibility is not a binding concept. This was so bizarre that it was, at least to me, incomprehensible. Were there some funny Sheldon moments? Absolutely! But, the character itself was disturbing, and frankly unlikeable.

Also, speaking of unbelievable: The reaction of Lenny to Christopher Lloyd’s character was absurdly inconceivable. There is no way they would have let him stay so much as one night in their apartment. The idea that he paid a dollar and was entitled to stay is patently stupid. Even if Leonard lacked the gumption to put him out there is no doubt Penny would have tossed him on the curb in an instant.

The renewal of the sad and pathetic Stuart story line was also disappointing. Original Stuart was smart, somewhat sardonic, and was capable of reflecting quite amusingly on his comic book store clientele. Now, he’s creepy and pathetic; to the point that my wife detests seeing him onscreen. It’s a shame to see what the writers have done to him. Raj, however, is Raj. His odd connection to Howardette is well established. Injecting Stuart into things was unnecessary and uncomfortable.

It was not the worst episode ever made (hard to beat The Speckerman debacle) and it’s not one I will not watch in reruns. There were some laugh out loud moments and I rated it good. Sheldon will rebound as he is seldom the same for long any more. So, the next episode will remain, as ever, something I anxiously wait to see.

As always, these are my observations and I am not seeking a debate. I know I am out of the mainstream that loves the 'Sheldon is becoming a real person" plot line. That's fine. I hope all that like it will continue to do so and we can all enjoy the show in our own way. I don't wish to debate anyone. Did enough of that in the Shenny shipper debates of long ago...

Thank you , you have illustrated elequently how I feel about Sheldon and the show. He is unrecognisable . And I think the binding concept is. He has grown, therefore he has become self aware. So he is now fully aware and accepts his behaviour is unacceptable. Back in the day he was rational about it. He was clueless . But if we And his sitcom friends are to say he has Grown. Then their should not be a tolerance for his behaviour anymore.

The fact he is aware his beheaviour is unacceptable. Yet he treated Leonard as poorly as he has ever had. Is so borderline asinine . It's not even funny anymore. It's not just Sheldon too. Like you said the fact his friends continue to tolerate his behaviour too is bizarre. He and The show really is unrecognisable. But like Sheldon they don't stay at the same for very long. Rewatching the episode . God Sheldon was willing to take everything and leave Leonard nothing lol. It's only funny, because of its absurdity .

Very true, and that's a chronic problem these days - Penny is OOC passive and in the background. She was the most assertive character in the classic seasons.

For me there was one gem in this episode:

L: You're good at revenge; how do we get him back?

P: Well, my go-to move is usually sleep with the person's boyfriend, but I kind of feel like I'm already doing that.

Excellent writing, and KC's expressions while delivering her line made it brilliant. That's what TBBT is about, IMO.

A Sheldon VS Leonard battle of wits never fails to disappoint, and ten years down the line, they're still funny. I thought this plot was very well written and the arguments over possessions allowed the show to bring back many a running gag- the apartment flag, the sword, the Amy & Penny picture etc etc. The toga flag scene was priceless ("Easy peasy oh so breezy" ). The resolution was a bit forced and rushed but it didn't ruin the plot for me. We always knew that Leonard and Sheldon were going to make up and this was just a quick way of doing it.

The Raj/Howard/Bernadette/Stuart B-Plot was actually even funnier than the A-Plot in my opinion. I laughed out loud several times at Raj and Stuart's arguments over the Chinese takeout, the giraffe VS zebra mobiles and the hilarious repartee between the two over dinner. Some brilliant scenes.

Best Line:  Sheldon: "'All right, I tried.' That should be the title of your autobiography".

Performance of the Week: Kunal Nayyer.
