April Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Overall a decent episode for me. Howardette were probably my favourite part. Especially the part with Bernie in the crib were lovely. :') Lenny were funny as expected. LOL Shamy are a mixed bag but I've written extensively about that elsewhere. And of course it's great that they start the year with a get together in 4A - the more things change the more they stay the same! <
spidergirl Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 It was an okay episode for me. One of the things I most liked was the gang is having more time together in 4A again. Howardette was adorable. I really loved the crib scene, the tenderness between Howard and Bernie was really something that warmed my heart. Lenny was funny, I really laughed of big tree fel! The sequence of lenny scenes was really cool. Shamy was a bag of mixed feelings that I am processing yet. I will write about it in its own thread. Looking foward to seeing next episode. Carm6773 Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I loved the the crib tenderness too; however... I hope this doesn't encourage new parents to co sleep with their newborn. A newborn in my area died recently when the Mom rolled over on top of it while co sleeping. The weird juice thing creeped me out too... The Lenny scenes were hilarious!
3ku11 Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Got home late, so just watched it. Pretty solid episode. It was cute. And mostly laugh out loud. Not the best episode ever. But this show only gives one or two gems a year. Breaking down the stories. Shamy: Lord cringy. Comes to mind describing their story. The Sheldon has grown crowd should be moaning again. Inconsistent Sheldon rears its ugly head. Amy even point blank says Sheldon has not grown. And theirs something inherently off putting about a Sheldon who's almost normal. He used to be so deadpan. Now he's almost getting sarcasm and human responses. I mean he's still clueless to feelings. But it's like he selectively chooses to show he's grown. Amy lied to Sheldon, and openly admitted to drugging him lol. Serious imbalance in this relationship. I get where Mary was coming from though. Sheldon is a weirdo. And it's remarkable he's found a woman who is willing to put up with all of it out of love. Amy's right too. When it comes to feelings etc. The underwear stuff, was as cringy in the promo. I diddnt get it. Is the show trying to hard with Sheldon now? Because tbh in this episode everyone out shone him. And it feels to me theirs a co parent dynamic in their relationship ATM. Amy's managing him. Lenny: They stole the show for me. Johnny and Kaley have amazing chemistry. And just work so well together. Their expressions were a riot. The moment before and after they got the tree. And the sequence of them bringing the tree up the stairs. And falling on the couch. I haven't laughed that hard since The Napkin Scene in Bath Item. That scene should be considered for an Emmy write in for J and K. They came across as a married couple too. I love Stuart. I know ppl critisize how he's changed. But from a comedy stand point. It's just hilarious imo. That he's just some guy who showed up one day. And ended up staying. Forever lol. Loved how they all simultaneously fell asleep. Had that old school group feel. More balanced then it has in recent years. I think they really do love Stuart :D My fav moment of the whole episode though. Was Howardette and the crib. One of the most well shot, directed. Poignantly beautiful scenes I have ever seen from this show. Howard was so touching. Hard to beleive this is the same Howard who once tried to find the SuperModels house lol. The most matured character in this show by miles.
camelliayao Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) As a Shamy fan, I can't believe I'm saying this but I really hope Shamy were not in this episode. Lenny were super cute in this one. It's a pity that they didn't get more screen time. Howardette's storyline warmed my heart. Shamy and Mary's storyline was just utterly pointless and obnoxious. I didn't laugh once the entire time. The three of them showed their least lovable side in this episode. Sheldon was acting childish and, honestly, so very annoying. Amy was just a plot tool who in one moment is caring and kind, in another is inconsiderate and a bit bipolar. Honestly, some of her behaviors didn't even make sense. It's like she no longer has a personality these days. Her personality is whatever the plot requires it to be. It seems to me the writers wanted to give us a traditional couple episode. Howardette support each other. Lenny act sillly but adorable together. Sadly, what they chose for Shamy is the part of Shamy that I hate the most. One more thing, I'm getting so much second hand embarrassment from Sheldon these days that I had to close my eyes for a bit during some of his scenes.  Edited January 6, 2017 by camelliayao

But, again, serendipitous drugging has been a staple of the show for a while, to get laughs.  Bernie drugging Howard, Howard drugging Sheldon, Howard drugging  his mother, etc.

Research by paediatricians who recommend co-sleeping  shows it doesn't normally happen. There were videos shown on our TV of parents and babies taken during the night to show that parents instinctively roll away from the baby. The government used it alongside the 'Back-to-Sleep' campaign' which successfully cut down the number of cot deaths.  I've had a baby godchild in bed with me to give the parents a chance to catch up on sleep and had no problem. Halley was only a week old at Christmas and could benefit from being cuddled to sleep by her mummy, even though she must have been roasting in that  blanket in a place where it's 70F degrees plus. You can't roll onto your tummy with anything in your arms - try it. Edited January 6, 2017 by joyceraye grammar

He called the supermodels 'Mrs Wolowitz' even as he was pretending to be a letch. . As for the Shamy co-parent dynamic : how many married people are there on this board ? Amy's been practising to be a wife for years and she's in her element now. How many partnered men run their own lives after they leave their mothers ? They don't even buy their own knickers and I know it's no different across the pond.  I subscribe to American radio and I hear how they advertise Tommy John underpants : Your husband will love them. Best pair he'll ever wear. Good for Sheldon for buying any of his own, even though his mother arranges an order for him now and then. 'My mate doesn't think I can run my own life,' from a man who's supposed to be unaware. Really ?  Well-spotted Sheldon ! Not many men notice that. You are a rarity in more ways than one.
Judith Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) I voted ok for this. I liked everything in the Shamy plot but two things: the drugging and the screaming. Actually the first scream was ok, the other two...eh. The Lenny plot was charming and entertaining, particularly the beginning. It could have been longer though. Howardette were sweet as expected. The scene with Bernie in the crib was the best of the episode. Howard has come so far, he's an awesome husband and he'll also be an awesome dad. I have a soft spot for him and I have to say, only Howard/Simon could pull off throwing his paid leave in Sheldon's face and then momentarily forgetting his child in 4A so charmingly. ETA: I reread my post and now I wonder why I voted OK. I'd give it a Good. Edited January 6, 2017 by Judith

Swedish Chef Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Loved the Lenny part with the Christmas tree, but I don't see the point with the big nasty fight over the Luke Cage program. sgreece Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) So I wached it once and had some good laughs... ... and then I put on a face mask to wach it again after several hours, thinking that the mask will not break because I will not laugh the second time... ... but, that scene with all the crying in the bed with Howrdette killed me guys! It was so organic! Anyway, thought I would share my new test I invented to seperate what is really funny to me! Good day everyone!  Edited January 6, 2017 by sgreece
Denise07 Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) I gave it an okay.  My first reaction was: What did I just watch? At times, Lenny were absolutely adorable and I found the Christmas tree plot to be funny and believable.  Our family used to cut down our Christmas trees and despite the best laid plans, there was always some hitch and there was always cussing and fighting. The frustration was believable to me. What made it somewhat tolerable after listening to them describe their fight is they were obviously past it and happy at the time they recounted their experience. The Howardette:  A lil serious with humor mixed in but again...new parents, struggling with a newborn, feeling inadequate as a mom...believable. Some things that distracted me though-Bernie's hair (Were they going with the hair got thicker with the pre-natal vitamins and pregnancy hormones...well that was how I reasoned it). That babies cry...I get tptb are going for funny but it didn't sound human let alone real. Raj and Stuart here didn't bother me. The part that ruined it though...is Stuart. They totally crap on his character. I'd like to see him get a win!! Then the story that was on for far too long and was much too cringe worthy and ultimately made it hard to watch the rest...Shamy. Amy's special juice, Amy going behind's Sheldon's back, Sheldon sitting in flippers and whitey's tighties...freaking HILARIOUS and that scream. No, just no. I can still hear it in my head...this is not what I want to remember. And even if these were brand new, never been worn before underwear...I couldn't deal with Sheldon talking through the pee hole. Knee slapping hilarious...except it wasn't to me. Not even a little bit. All my opinion-   Edited January 6, 2017 by Denise07
bfm Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I think it was a cute episode, had some laughs, but there were much better ones... Lenny were cute especially in the beginning, I love it when they just have fun doing goofy stuff together (like the dance party), I really want to see more stuff like this but these moments are very rare... Their plot was light and it was clear that they were over their fight...I like how at ease Johnny and Kaley are with each other, it makes every scene their in more pleasant to watch. I wish they showed a little more of them, maybe shoving the tree to the elevator shaft... There is something that did bother me a little: why are they turning Penny into the typical doing-nothing-but-complaining sitcom wife? after Leonard had troubles with the ax she could take it and chop the tree by herself, that have been completely IC. Howardette were also very cute, I liked their interactions. Also liked the way the show handles the baby storyline. Similar to the way they handled the pregnancy storyline, they show that it's not all fun and euphoria, there are struggles...but they also show that it's not all bad, there are good moments... About Shamy and Mary... First I gotta say that as the sister of an 18 year old girl with ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder, thankfully very different from Sheldon) and a child clinical psychology MA student, I think they had a chance to handle Mary's worries in a much more sensitive way that would have been helpful to people with ASD and their families, by making the general population a little more aware of some of their worries. Mary's worries are completely legitimate and understandable. To me, the audience laugh at these two lines felt out of place. She may use humor as a defense but I believe she was genuinely worried, and that these thoughts were distressing for her. They could remove the laugh when editing the episode. They could also drop the joke, the "get on board" part. Then have Sheldon go on about his siblings and laugh at that.  As for the drugging, I didn't take it too seriously, just a joke, made me laugh (and then cringe a little after the inertia comment...but I am willing to forgive that). Amy talking to Mary first - I think it is nice that she is willing to "take the bullet" for Sheldon but she should have discussed that with him before. Raj - nothing. Reminds me of The Veracity Elasticity when he says that he has nothing to do so he is going to eat....
Itwasdestined Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Quality handsomely defeated quantity in this episode. The 2 minutes of Christmas Lenny was brilliant. While we could have asked for more time, I think the physical comedy and the quick quips from Penny needed the short sharp scenes - seeing them get the tree would have killed them off a bit. But then a bit of pre car scene would have been OK and maybe a bit of the Luke Cage discussion ( a common occurrence in my married life) would have been preferable to the never ending Shamy story. But we are now used to HEARING about Lennys life rather than SEEING it so waddayagonnado?I thought Bernie stole the show emotionally, physically and comedically. I felt the pain of the incessant crying - that was our experience with our daughter, whom we couldn't settle in our first week home from hospital. Loved her in the cot/crib and her quips about fitting in a sink/basin - "I don't....but I can!" Love her repartee with Sheldon too. The Shamy story was just too long. I laughed at times but it just didn't balance with the rest of the couples stories because of its length and it got a bit nasty at times. Enough has been said about it so I won't repeat it. I've always loved Mary but not so much tonight. Early seasons Mary had a bit of softness about her comments on Sheldon's special nature. Here she was hard and unbecoming of the mother she has been. Her comments and tone were more early Raj/Howard for me. Laughed at a couple of lines but they were awkward laughs. I enjoyed the episode and had plenty of laughs throughout. Just thought a better time balance between the couples, even if they split it with Lenny in the middle, would have made the Shamy centric nature a little less off putting. spidergirl Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) Two more notes about this episode: - It was nice to see the whole gang together, including Stuart. Everything ties better as they interact in group. And this episode had something really funny: the group mocking with Stuart as they pretended they were sleeping , lol! Stuart's face was priceless! - Raj is getting worst week after week. The worst quotes were said by him and he had not anything to tell but crap. It is sad what is happening with this character though. Edited January 6, 2017 by spidergirl
