How much longer can Sheldon stick to once a year coitus?

Realistically, for how long could any man limit himself to once a year?

Not long, I think. Before the end of S10 the writers will turn him into a 3 times a night stud. He could then give Leonard advice on coitus.

Well I think tptb see Shamy sex. I hate the term coitus. As just a once a year gag. "Amy's birthday sex". I can see Sheldon doing it three times per night. And giving Leonard advice. Even though he's had more sex them Sheldon in his lifetime.

To follow on. I just don't think Sheldon is that interested in Sex with Amy. He enjoyed it. But was not earth shattering. More just something he checked off his list. So once a year seems appropriaate.

The way they write Sheldon is just confusing to me. There are sometimes scenes where I do think he desires her sexually and other times it's like she might as well be his mommy. I just don't see the logic here.

Sheldon fell for Amy because of her intellect. That's nice. But the second you do fall for someone, you automatically develop a physical attraction. I've never heard of someone who's completely in love but is fine with only doing it once a year. If Sheldon was asexual it'd be a different story, but he isn't. I don't wanna sound completely ignorant here, but again, I've honestly never heard of a couple where sex takes THAT much of a backseat unless there's a problem. Please correct me if I'm missing something.

What it comes down to IMO is that the writers don't think about it too much. When it's convenient for them and the story they wanna write, then Sheldon will occasionally find Amy sexually desirable, but most of the time they seem to wanna show "typical Sheldon".

What I find unfortunate is that the way they write Sheldon affects the way they write Amy massively. I think Amy is a super interesting character but they adjust the way she is written to whatever is happening with Sheldon. I mean I get that, he's their poster boy for the show, but personally I just find Amy much more interesting. I love how she has progressed as a character over the years.

Yearly sex until marriage. Just imagine the wedding night. I assume they won't get married on Amy's birthday.

I dunno, I'm staying pessimistic, I'm failing to see any logic beyond the way the writers are handling that (they keep showing him being sexual but acting asexual) other that their stubborn wish to make Sheldon stick to once a year thing because "that's who he is, he puts little importance in things like sex" (I think Molaro interview?)

I just think if it's true, it's kind of masochism, and Sheldon is not a masochist in any way, he always indulges in whatever he loves fully (all his tv shows, comics, memorabilia, physics etc). So if he liked sex, why the hell he would restrain himself? It doesn't feel in character. If he didn't like it at all, then he's indeed asexual? Then why would they keep showing moments of him acting sexual here and there? This is just annoying to me , so I don't get my hopes up.

I think it is just a matter of time...we know that they make out and possibly shower together. It is always very slow with Sheldon but with living with Amy now he is becoming more interested IMO. Not that they will ever be like bunny rabbits. I say it will be a monthly event...

I hate coitus too! I loved when he wanted to have sex with Amy to make a baby and he had a tux on with those plaid pants! He actually looked sex you for once! Still my favorite episode was Thanksgiving when Penny didn't know she was married and Sheldon drunk

Mrs Wolowitz will be missed ,hysterical

In season 6 episode 14, penny asks Sheldon if he will ever have sex with Amy

Sheldon: Well, first of all, I’m quite fond of Amy.

Penny: Then what’s the problem?

Sheldon: Penny, all my life, I have been uncomfortable with the sort of physical contact that comes easily to others, hand-shaking, hugging, prostate exams. But I’m working on it, you know? Just recently, I had to put VapoRub on Amy’s chest. A year ago, that would have been unthinkable.

Sheldon states that he cared for Amy, but, still so, physical contact has always been something he's been uncomfortable with. He has to work at it gradually, and I believe he reason he tries so hard to do so is because he DOES care about her. It took much time for him to be ready to have sex once and will take time for it to become more regular. Every time Sheldon and Amy have moved further physically I have been surprised, because he doesn't seem prepared, but I'm sure he mentally prepares himself each time. I'm sure it is the same with the possibility of regular sex. I don't think we'll be sure when it'll happen but I'm sure their relationship will move forward before the end of the series.

One thing I admire about Sheldon is his  insistence on accuracy of language. Like it or hate, coitus is one of the correct terms. Coitus, sexual intercourse, mating, or copulation are the right words and there can be no confusion about what they mean. Sex is the word on birth certificates, passports and laws to mean our physical make up. I cringe when educated people such as Leonard say 'have sex' when they mean coitus even though it is the currently fashionable term. ( Not quite as much as when he says 'dumb' to mean unintelligent though. )  Scientists know that most of the animal kingdom and some of the plant kingdom has one sex or the other, although some of them have two. What I hate is the mealy-mouthed use of 'gender' as a synonym for sex. When I was at school we were taught gender referred to masculine, feminine or neuter nouns. They may or may not relate to the sex if we're talking about a living creature. Masculine or feminine words are more likely to be about spelling than whether a person is male or female. In French both a king and a queen are addressed as feminine because majesty is a feminine noun. Mice are masculine. In German a little girl is neuter. Remember the joke about the man who found a fly in his soup in a French restaurant ?

It's interesting that 'making love' is lately a euphemism for coitus. It must be confusing for a young person reading a poem, novel or history book written before it had such connotations. :)

There's also fornication, but, as Sheldon rightly pointed out:-

that has judgemental overtones, so I’ll hold that in reserve. :)

Indeed there is, and there's been a lot of it ever since TBBT began. Fornication is not a synonym for all coitus. It is, however, what Shamy do and which Lenny, Rajily and Howardette used to do.  Fornication is consensual coitus between unmarried individuals and against which, according to the Church and other mainstream religions, marriage is a protection against the sin of. The truth, sadly, it is said, is judgemental. However, Shamy, if all goes  as we hope, will eventually be married and therefore no longer fornicating. :) Mary Cooper, whose scripture seems to be made up as she goes along, said from the moment a couple 'lie together' they are married in the eyes of The Lord. Sheldon, on the other hand, told his mother The Lord was not pleased with her after she'd been fornicating.

Your comment was "I will give it a week".  About a week before, and something that was in the TR, it was known Sheldon and Amy had coitus outside of the once a year.
