Chrismo Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 (edited) That was terrible. How one character, Sheldon, do so many insensitive/clueless things in one episode. The Raj storyline wasn't any better. I could see it as a storyline in season 1 or 2. But after ten seasons how can you not know your rent, credit card bill, and how much you pay for food. Then to have the nerve to say the guys look ten years older and 4a is a dump. Wow. Edited February 17, 2017 by Chrismo

john2p Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 (edited) Above average. I did like most of the parts around Raj. The opening scene did give me an old school vibe, and the spoiled story did have some great moments most of the part due to the interactions between Howardette and Lenny. Their reactions, comments and facial expressions were classic. But......Shamy....... I have thought a while about the news that there will be a 2 years of renewal. It gave me mixed feelings of excitement and anxiety. The latter is confirmed by how Shamy was portrayed in this episode (and the last two seasons). As the main couple, they have become, it annoys me a lot. Especially the evolvement of Sheldon. It is an ungoing repetition of storys in two seasons of change. And my annoyance is keep repeating as well. Anyhow it reflects the mix feelings as I watch the show, from a sparkle of delight, to keep the remote control aside to turn off. The sometimes old school vibe, the other characters and of course Lenny keep me watching. But for how long.... djsurrey Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I rated it as bad which I don't do very often. Same old characters but nothing new really. I don't care about spoiled Raj or Shamy's bedroom priorities or people gossiping about it. For me this episode was a waste if time. Shelldon Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 -A Euler's Disk. Big Bang glory days that relied on silly science situations. Can the rest of the episode (or Seasons 11-12) sustain the creativity? -When did Raj gain this talent? Surprised they let him outlast it. Liked how Amy leaned in. -Grown man with a steady job. That makes me wonder what Raj has been doing with the money he makes. -"I don't think I'm the problem". He already got the sensitivity talk from his exes. -Equilateral triangles. I could mow down on that entire chip bowl just fine. -"G-Harmony: We're all about dating, and not the Carbon 14 kind". Still better than Christian Mingle. -Baby cape. Too bad we'll never get to see it wear that. -Bing is a defunct search engine and it still exists. -10 years of rent, car payments, and credit cards. Raj's father is too kind for him. -Getting stood up by someone online is far less of a blow than getting stood up by someone you knew in-person. -Why would Sheldon randomly spout that to professors and a lunch lady? How would that even come up? Also why does it matter if they only have sex once a year when that's what they both agreed to? Actually it's vague how those terms of agreement came to be permanent. Point is, if Amy wants sex more than just on her birthday, why hasn't she started that conversation with him yet? Sheldon just thinks it's a traditional event. -"Perhaps we could come up with a signal". A slammed door works. -10 years more mature than you too Raj. So it's not about being scared that he can't get by with his salary, it's that he needs the luxury of....a crappy apartment complex. Realistically Raj could own a house by now. -"This dump". I'm not seeing a difference but then again we barely see Raj's apartment. -"The housekeeper does the shopping". What on earth. It's easy for the writers to take this to absurd levels because we never see what Raj is doing. -Amy is cushion-sized. Sheldon gets his crusts cut off by the cafeteria lady. -You might have to marry your neighbor if you steal Wifi and food from them. -Don't even put the suggestion of Raj moving in with Howard/Bernadette in the air. Enough you cheap bastards, just pay for another set. -Well if Raj was living in 4A he'd get as much time as Penny/Leonard/Amy/Sheldon. -I took it upon myself to Google zones of privacy and didn't find any genitals. -Bert and Kripke are on the same circle level as Stuart. -So now that we've established Sheldon has a driver's license, will we see him behind the wheel in some car scenes? -This episode is all worth it because it's taking a step to move Raj forward. Sorry to Raj haters, but if we have 48 more episodes I prefer new situations for Raj over repeated storylines for couples much further along than him. The character without a baby, marriage, or long-term relationship should be incredibly easy to write for because Raj isn't boxed in yet. -Banter between Raj and his father is relatively amusing. Wonder how big that will is. -Fired his dog walker. Well maybe he didn't need to get rid of the competent pet handlers. -Bert's sorry for his part in this. Therefore he shall be the one most punished. -Tipped him a dollar. Because that makes him seem valuable. -Well just like the episode started with a science trick, the episode ends with Sheldon speaking publically at his workplace's cafeteria. Two old series traits. -"A list of this year's panelists". Amy won't fight him on train museums but she'll fight him on a fun event like Comic-Con just to perpetuate core four hobby bashing. Just one more in February and then a light two in March. Keep it together Shelldon.
bfm Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 (edited) One of the season's lows for me. Didn't make me angry like "The Romance Recalibration" and "The Emotion Detection Automation" but I barely laughed and it ended quite abruptly, as if it was cut by mistake. I really liked the opening! thought it was awesome! finally some goofy science-realted stuff with most of the gang like the good old times! Please writers, bring more of that! The Raj plot was quite boring... I enjoyed some of the comments by Lenny and Howardette, especially the parent-like exchange (and I like them as couple-friends!), but overall it wasn't very funny and not interesting...felt like they were forcing some screen time for him. I don't have a problem with them working on Raj but I think they could put some more effort and creativity to it. Okay, show him deciding to stop usng his dad's money. But why not show some of the reprecussions? show him struggle and get some laughs out of that instead of keeping it only in the conversation. Some of it may come up in future episodes but why not in this one? cut some of the conversaton with his dad for it... The Shamy plot...Sheldon messed up but I did believe it was mostly out of his ignorance about social norms and conventions, and I liked his trying to learn. However, he REALLY SCRAWED UP with the driving. I thought maybe he knows he is a terrible driver (passing the test doesn't necessarly mean you're good, it's just a small sample of driving skills) and is afraid of driving by himself. That still could be true but they went pretty strong with the sense of importance stuff. As I said the ending was just weird. Jonny Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 A 'meh' episode for me, last week's was a lot better imo. The Raj storyline didn't really grab me at all, I mean signs Raj showing small flickers that there might be a life changing decision on the cards DO interest me but I found the whole discussion in 4A just really boring. Not going to post a great deal in here about the Shamy storyline as I have left my thoughts in the correct thread, but I will say this Sheldon fucked up so I can't defend him and I really felt Amy's pain during this one. SRAM Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I laughed more this week than last week so I think this episode was better. I found the opening to be classic nerd, which was great, but what really struck me during the opening was how interested Penny was in what they were doing though she tried to act like she wasn't. It reminded me of many seasons before when the guys chanted "one of us" to her because she was now considered one of their group, she seemed so much Leonard's wife in this episode. I liked the 4A talk to Raj by the two couples the best, especially when Lenny and Howardette sort of were competing against each other, and trying to stick it to each other. This episode and the recent renewal information made me wonder one thing though, if they go two more years, Howardette's baby will be a toddler late season 11 and all 12, how are they going to hide that I found the Shamy plot more sad than funny, both Amy and Bert seemed to be hurt by Sheldon's cluelessness, Bert is not Kripke, he is more of a gentle giant, so him being hurt feels like one of the gang getting hurt to me. Amy and Sheldon did reminded me of a real couple this episode, in the way they acted with each other, but then Sheldon acting clueless about things made it feel a little weird too, it was like the writers wanted to show them becoming a better couple but also Sheldon is still sort of the same. It just all came out in me feeling sorry for Amy and then Bert, and I didn't like the tag scene, it just made me cringe.

More a case of people becoming indifferent about him. He's contributed about as much to TBBT as the sofa in 4A. He's generally not a good person and it's well established that he isn't likely to progress in any sort of positive direction. He may not be boxed in relationship wise, but he's pretty boxed in as being who and what he is. At this point I don't see him much differently than Stuart, Kripke, Burt, Will Wheaton, etc... Kunal is a good actor that does a great job playing Raj. Unfortunately, from Season One to date the character has suffered while story lines were devoted to the others. At this point I am not so sure the ship hasn't sailed on Raj.
No Regrets Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 It was an OK episode. I laughed out loud when Leonard suggested that Raj could move in with Howardette and Howard went: "Why don't you like me??" Simon is hilarious. Judith Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 I shamelessly gave this one an Excellent purely because of Shamy (it wouldn't be the first time). Otherwise it sucked. While I find Raj occasionally entertaining, I'm starting to feel really annoyed with his half-baked plots that take up too much screen time that could be used on Lenny (and I'm saying this as someone who couldn't care less about them). There's so much fast-forwarding someone can do. In other news, was the part where Sheldon was standing on the stairs looking up while Amy slammed the apt door a new camera angle? I think that it was. I don't remember seeing it before.

You can see the stairway "fourth wall" in the video Howard captured after Lenny's first date, when they are kissing. This angle was a bit different as it was down the stairs, where the other was from above the elevator door. They've also shown the "fourth wall" in 4A in the episode where Sheldon gets his drivers learners permit, and 4B when Howard was talking to Amy before Howard and Bernadette's wedding. Lady in Red Posted February 18, 2017 Posted February 18, 2017 I just watched the episode tonight on CBS all access, and I thought the ending was quite abrupt. Sheldon realizing that Amy was mortified by what he was telling people about them. Quite a downer and he looked pretty sad. This fight between them made a lot more sense than the shopping fight last year that sounded quite contrived. Of course, the annual sex business is pretty contrived in the first place, but this is something that apparently the writers have chosen to play with in these characters. The cold open was awesome. Anyone else find themselves trying to hold their breath?

Anyone else find themselves trying to hold their breath? Me, hehe! The cold open was one of best this season imo. I have realy enjoyed the group interaction and it was the proof as there are so many geek and nerd stuff that could always add so much fun and be useful as info to audience. I agree about the ending, I was expecting it was more deep narratively speaking. Overall I think this episode seemed to have been written in a rush, you know. The scenes overall were fine but seemed they could have been more complete, I mean, it seemed something was off. About shamy I shared my thoughts in its thread but I would like to say that Raj 's plotline could be much more thoughfull imo. Glad to see writers are trying something in Raj's front but it seemed a bit too much "superficial man" imo. An inteligent astronomy scientist who is very aware about all scientific, nerd and stars gossip most recent news and he doesnt know how much is his rent? A capable scientist whose father pay all his bills, including food? Sorry but I could not buy it at all. I can see the idea might be to put Raj in right path but for that the story that is being built around his character is turning overeacted. Let see what next episode might bring us about this and Howardette and lenny , who were simple viewers in this episode.
