Jonny Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 I still remember that moment, a real IMO turd of an episode that was saved by that stunning moment. Was I shocked? Yes, but not surprised, always thought for their relationship to last he would have to make that kind of commitment or romantic overture at some point. I love just as much the moment when Sheldon gets home and spills to Leonard what happened and he can't rank which he enjoyed more the kiss or the actual train experience lol. Old school Shelnard Bromance there with him happy for Sheldon but also at the same time curious about what was going through his mind, a real friendship moment. Everything in their story was serving the big kiss to really land the WOW moment - well done! If they didn't stick the landing this surely would have been a disaster. And they sure worked hard on it. One thing I only found out his summer while reading the old threads was that the ending where Sheldon couldn't decide what his favourite thing was wasn't in the initial taping and they changed it the week after. And it's not that they just filmed it later but there was a completely different tag scene with Shamy taking a picture with Eric as the tag that got scrapped for it. Personally, I found the description of the old tag rather lacklustre and it downplayed the kiss by another "Sheldon is still Sheldon" moment. I guess the writers saw it similarly and decided to come up with something better. Thank goodness!
spidergirl Posted February 7, 2018 Posted February 7, 2018 I have said a few times that Shamy kisses for me they are always so special as they hold so much emotion, love and honesty. The SIK is surely one of most treaured kisses by Shamy among their fans. Love how Sheldon was taken off guard for his impulse of kissing Amy and how he enjoyed it himself much. Memorable! From this season, this one melts me truly:

So yeah I didn't like the episode much until that point but like you said that was deliberately crafted that way by the writers so they clearly delivered as it had that impact when the moment finally came. I would imagine a lot weren't enjoying it much or Sheldon for that matter up until that point. I'm so glad they changed the ending! Thank Goodness indeed! 2L344 Posted February 8, 2018 Posted February 8, 2018 (edited) As someone who lives near Napa (and will be enjoying dinner with wife on the train on Valentines Day next week lol) I thought it was funny that Shamy would go to the trouble of coming all the way up here just to have dinner on the train—locals dont give it much thought. They really did a great job recreating the train car and I thought the dinner scenes were pretty funny (sorry Jonny!). I liked Bernie taking credit for Howard’s “transformation” and Amy’s “gun to the head” moment at the table. Everything fron the goofy UPS guy to the smartass waiter made for a fun episode for me. I totally didnt see the SIK coming and was in shock when he made his move and lingered. I was happy for Amy and that was the start of a different way of shipping Shamy for me. I never tire of that episode! Edited February 8, 2018 by 2L344

Perhaps she has sentimental memories of watching it. It was a popular programme, I think. She writes fanfiction round it but I don't recall that she mentioned reading the books. That's another kettle of fish altogether. They're about one disaster after another, interesting in many ways but enjoyable isn't quite the word. I read them as an adult. What kept me going through them was the hope things would get better. I must say the thought of living in such primitive conditions for more than a weekend has little or no appeal for me. Even in Amy's fanfic Ameiia wants to know about the future. I prefer a world where hot water, toilet paper and tampons are easily available. Imagine being a child when what was for dinner was what your dad could shoot. 3 Sorry to bring this old thread up but has Amy ever actually mention reading the Books written by the Real Laura Ingalls? I do agree with Jonny and April that she probably watches LHOTP for nostalgia reasons. She likely watched it with her Mother or Grandmother and it brings back fond memories of watching Re-runs with them while growing up. The Books would have come out during her Grandmtoher Lifetime. Amy does seem to have an interest in Victorian Literature so maybe that why she like the LHOTP because it took place in the same timeframe Yes, the books could be heavy at times but still made it appropriate for children reading without getting too deep. but The Show had a lot of Epsidoes that was heavy as well especially as Laura and Mary got older. Later episodes of LHOTP was aimed more towards Adults then Children. I think Layer episodes were heavy than the Books. I just watch an Epsidoe where a Girl named Sylvia who was 14 was repeatedly raped. She got Pregnant and the masked rapist kept coming back to attack her and watching her. She fell after trying to escape her rapist and died at the end of the Episode. The Rapist died after her dad shot him. Earlier in the episode, The boys from her school went to her house to take a peek at her through the window and Albert were altered accuse of being the Father of her child and her dad wanted to kill him despite the plea of his Daughter. i wouldn't call that appropriate viewing for young children. I think that Epsidoe would have made Laura Ingalls Wilder skin crawl.

I did several times because I work at a historical farm and we actually have to show people what it was like to live in a log cabin, farm the way they did and we have several Native American programs that bring out how cringe-worthy the books were in regards to them. People have these memories of how the show made it look all fun and fluffy in the beginning, but the books never were and the show wasn't either toward the end. People want that sense of simpler times with Pa playing his fiddle and being surrounded by familial love but quickly forget all the times Laura starved and froze, wound up doing a quarter of an adult's work by the time she was eight years old and how she had to have had a pot of cold pee under her bed every night. I can't stand those books and it's hard because I have a friend who works at one of the Laura sites and I love her. I love seeing her at museum conferences, but I don't think what she's promoting is the typical pioneer experience at all. I don't know what about it appeals to Amy or why Sheldon chose that to recreate for her when he could have done something Renaissance out of Chaucer just as easily. Or any other number of things. I go through this same divide between reality and fantasy a lot at Western programs when every guy think he wants to be Daniel Boone because he watched the show when he was little. They don't realize that Daniel Boone led a Kentucky Militia into an ambush at the battle of the Blue Licks and when his son was shot he got away by leaving the boy behind to be scalped. Jonny Posted February 10, 2018 Posted February 10, 2018 (edited) It's exactly two years tomorrow that 'The Valentino Submergence' aired 11/02/16. Some lovely moments in that one when they are doing a special Valentines FWF episode. I found it funny slowly watching Sheldon getting annoyed with Raj and Kripke as they weren't talking about flags, but then it also did produce some sweet moments like this: Sheldon opening up about how the breakup made him realize how important Amy is to him. Both of them acknowledging that their relationship felt stronger than ever, which you then saw develop further the following season with them moving in together and getting engaged. If they thought their relationship was stronger than ever back then I wonder what they think now? Of course it was never going to be explained further as the interruption was planned and the dialogue was cut off, but I would have loved to have known what Sheldon was about to say after this moment: But I think we already likely know what sort of lovey-dovey stuff he might have come up with lol as we saw plenty in Season 10 and now Season 11. So yeah I was pissed at the time it cut off but with the benefit of hindsight and what I know now i'll let it slide lol Edited February 10, 2018 by Jonny

You had said everything about how stronger Shamy relationship became after their breaking up. I even got to be a stronger shipper as they got deeper as couple and as individuals whom had been growing to a nice matture level Regards what Sheldon did not said as he was interrupted by lenny getting back home, tbh it did not bother me much. I like to insert in that unfinished sentence one of the gems Sheldon had said to Amy since then. It was an interisting mystery tone left by writers about the reasons Sheldon thought deeply as he realized he could not live happy without showing Amy how much he loves her. / end of overloaded romantic post Edited February 10, 2018 by spidergirl

spidergirl Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Personally I would not like Shamy wedding happening in Caltech and the reason is not related with the fact it is not fancy as they are not either and surely they will get marry in a place very "Shamy" and not fancy at all. The reason is about after all their growth and bondness as a couple whom was not into romance, a wedding in Catech imo would be a bit "cold and clinical" as they were when they became friends. But course it might be just me and probably they will eventually marry there.

I can understand that, If I was to get married there is no way in hell I would want to get married where I work (or a place associated with work), just feels too easy or safe for me personally. But I think it would be the kind of choice they would make so yeah I think it would be kind of in character in some ways for them to get married there. Anyway we shall see, I think there are pluses and negatives to pretty much any locations they consider and I think if you asked 1000 Shamy fans what would would you like to see for them in regards to their wedding such as location, theme, type of ceremony etc you would probably get a 1000 different answers lol. I guess the major plus point is we will know after this possibly where and maybe even when they are getting married. It could be this place or maybe 'Old School' Kripke (presumably he has a booking there for something on the same day and he enjoys having that power over Sheldon) causes them problems and they decide someplace else. The blurb says the place is for members to make use of. It's probably quite usual for the staff to hold their wedding receptions there - or even the weddings of couples who have opted for indoor ceremonies. If Bert is right about how popular Shamy are at the university then everybody might expect the wedding to be where they can all go and see it.
