April Posted April 27, 2018 Share Posted April 27, 2018 I've said it plenty of times in the DT and I'll say it now here: I fully expected something to go sideways with the wedding for comedy's sake. Now, after reading the TR for the finale there's really nothing going wrong there as far as I can see. So now, if the only thing that went wrong with this wedding is Amy's dress then so be it. I'll take that over the gazillionst repeat of "Sheldon has cold feet" or "pointless family drama" or whatever else could have gotten wrong. Happily so. And even then, the dress itself is sure... well.... something. But seeing how happy they both are with it was adorable. Amy loves it, Sheldon loves her in it - and fucking finally we get a straight up "Wow you look beautiful!" stunned reaction from him. If that's what she likes (she loves it! And so does Sheldon), fine by me. The reaction Sheldon has in the tag scene made me forget about the dress. This is the first time Sheldon calls her beautiful. To his eyes, she looked so beautiful that he said he can't wait to marry her. It was perfect. And let's be honest, that dress screams Amy. Really excited about the finale now. TBH, I think she did Iook bad in the first dress (it didn't suit her figure and made her Iook fat, no offense or body shaming impIied), much better in the second (aIso Bernie noticed it made a nice waist), but it was strapIess and didn't seem right, neither for Amy nor for Mayim, because she has said in more than one occasion she doesn't feel comfortable in strapIess cIothes, so I didn't want her to be unhappy on such an important episode for her character; that being said, I wouId have preferred another Iook! Like, I'm not sure the ending scene would have worked for me if it was something that made her look more "conventionally pretty", for lack of a better description. I know some people were hoping for an ~ugly duckling turns into a beautiful swan~ effect but turning her into, well, a pile of swans (lol) that only they can find truly beautiful really underlines how these two were made for each other. koops Posted April 27, 2018 Share Posted April 27, 2018 Maybe I don't have much fashion sense, but I really don't have a problem with the dress. Yeah, the cloak might be a bit much, but the rest of it is a fairly conventional, old-fashioned, puffy wedding dress. And in that photo with Teller from Twitter it looks even better. I don't think the comedy is meant to be in the fact that the dress is ugly, just in the fact that it's not a dress most people would pick, but Shamy find it amazing. It's the old-style sort of "Shamy vs. the audience" comedy which I loved from the early seasons, rather than the cringeworthy Sheldon vs. Amy comedy. I've never been a fan of the ugly-duckling makeover idea anyway, and having Sheldon react like this to this dress means a lot more than having him react the same way to a more conventionally pretty dress. I also totally agree with April that I am overjoyed that they did none of the "cold feet" tropes with this wedding and instead have Sheldon be 100% committed, excited and impatient to marry her. I never understood the whole "Sheldon would never get married" idea anyway. The man loves contracts and stability! It would be more OOC for him *not* to want to marry and to have cold feet. I just think that, in all those years, the costumes department has come up with many outfits that were very "Amy-style", old-fashioned, outdated and something most people wouldn't have picked, but that made her look Amy-beautiful. This dress...not so much. That being said, I can appreciate the "shamy against the world" attitude and I agree that, among the many things that could have gotten wrong in this wedding, this is certainly the most hilarious. As in, there are different styles of wedding dresses and this one, to me, looks more old fashioned. Something brides might have worn earlier last century, rather than the slimmer, strapless, sleeveless types that people wear nowadays. It reminds me a bit of the dresses royalty used to wear in the first half of the 1900's. I think what makes it "Amy" is that it's old fashioned, not that it's ugly. I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but what I mean is that I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that the wardrobe department picked it because it's ugly, rather than old-fashioned (as whether or not it's ugly is a personal preference), and we don't know that that was the thought process behind it. I wasn't even sure we would ever get Sheldon telling Amy he thinks she looks beautiful - and him being "knocked sideways" as he came in to the apartment - wow indeed - I thought that scene was so perfect & so Shamy - I loved it !! I can see some of you guys don't like the dress or wanted a fabulous on point dress for Amy - but honestly ( and no offence to those who don't agree ) I am so glad they went with the dress they did - it's so very Amy and look at how delighted she is !!! I said all along I didn't care what dress they chose as long as Amy loves it & Sheldon does too - and boy did they deliver !!! It's so #teamshamy . Honestly a conventional dress wouldn't have worked for that scene at all, it would have been to "normal" and "normal" really isn't the Shamy we all love and route for IMO !
