thanks for setting up the tournament. If i am allowed to ask  out of curiosity to the mod , @Tripper which are your own personal favorite top 5-8 episodes of the series ?

These are the episodes I nominated: https://the-big-bang-theory.com/vr/sYGzm/ With only 16 choices there were some undoubtedly some episodes I missed off (my Season 10 choice is definitely open to question), but I think that's broadly what I'd consider to be my top episodes.

See Opening Night currently has the most votes with 39. Bath Item Second with 38 votes. Personally I diddnt vote for ON. Thought it was overrated and over hyped in the long run. But that's jmo.

What please some, doesnt please others. In end what matters imo about this tournament is the fun fans have as they revisit all their favourites from all seasons.

A judgement about episodes quality would be a tough question as many viewers dont vote using same paremeters than others. Maybe I am wrong as this is my first tournament here but one only episode as the winner surely  doesnt mean it is  the only best epsiode tbbt had so far. It will be just the one which please most of the viewers who voted as there are many viewers who dont have acess to tbbt site. Some dont even know this fórum.

What I can say is I loved to be able to participate on this!

@Tripper Do you keep records of how many people voted in the last years? Just for curiosity's sake.

I'll have to check what's kept. The individual votes are dumped from the database after each tournament. A record file is kept for each tournament which would include some information, though not necessarily the full picture, of voting.

It definitely covers the knock-out rounds so I could see how many people voted for x vs. y, but I don't think that it would count all the votes in the nominations round so it wouldn't necessarily be a good gauge of how many people were voting. As far as it goes, that data would only be around from when the system was rewritten a few years back. Before that, I don't think anything was kept.

I feared as much. But thanks anyway! :)

Here's what I could gleam from the record file for last summer's Seasons 1-9 episode tournament. It didn't count the number of votes in the nominations round exactly, but it included a vote count for each episode that made it to the knock-out rounds and an overall vote share for the nominations round, so I was able to calculate the number of nomination round votes. The vote counts in the knock-out rounds were included so I was able to just add those together.

The one important point about this data is it shows the number of votes cast, not the number of voters. It doesn't know any difference between 16 people nominating just one episode or one person nominating all 16. It also doesn't know whether some people voted in every individual knock-out match or whether some people only voted in a few.

Nomination Votes: 4460 (max 16 votes per person)
Round 1 Votes: 2121 (max 8 votes per person)
Round 2 Votes: 1130 (max 4 votes per person)
Round 3 Votes: 733 (max 2 votes per person)
Round 4 Votes: 665 (max 1 vote)
Total Votes: 9,109

This year's tournament does seem quieter. The website traffic has been falling for a few years now so that plays a part. One other change is that we don't get as much traffic from Facebook or Twitter as we used to. People on the forum used to wonder why the voting didn't seem to match what seemed like popular opinion here. Often it was because there was a different fan base on FB and TW. They used to drive more people to the episode tournament pages, but changes to their algorithms seem to have meant not as many people see those posts now.

I have the data for tournaments going back to S1-6 in 2013.

Thanks a ton for the data, @Tripper. Very insightful!

A pity about the FB/twitter algorithm changes causing such a drop. You're not the first I've seen worry about that and it seems to be getting worse and worse with each year. Ugh

The nominations round has closed and now the sixteen most popular episodes battle it out in the first knock-out round.

The sixteen episodes will go head-to-head in the following pairs: The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis vs. The Locomotive Manipulation, The Adhesive Duck Deficiency vs. The Staircase Implementation, The Opening Night Excitationvs. The Birthday Synchronicity, The Long Distance Dissonance vs. The Barbarian Sublimation, The Panty Pinata Polarization vs. The Herb Garden Germination, The Earworm Reverberation vs. The 43 Peculiarity, The Prom Equivalencyvs. The Luminous Fish Effect, and finally The Scavenger Vortex vs. The Gorilla Experiment.

The first match is open for voting now and will run until Monday. After that there's a new match every other day. The first and last matches are padded only because there's a handover period needed, where I push a button to reset the rounds rather than the system starting them automatically at midnight. The second knock-out round will open on Monday, July 31.

Bath Item clearly the superior episode.

Dont have to many Qualms with the episodes that made the final 16. Other then The Long Distance Dissonance. I really hate that episode lol.

I agree.

IMO, Locomotion was a pretty dull episode, with the only highlight being the kiss.

As for the rest of the pairings, there's a couple where it's going to be difficult for me to choose.

WEll Bath Item as expected won by a landslide.

Next one Adhesive v Staircase. Hard. Two classics. But went with Staircase. Original and Unique Storytelling. Leonard doing Penny's nails. Leonard and Sheldon first meeting.

As you say, it's a hard choice, but I went with Adhesive Duck.

Not particularly for the camping part (which was only mildly amusing), but for the Sheldon and Penny part, which was

Them singing Soft Kitty as a round, was the icing on the cake.

BTW: What they sang wasn't, strictly speaking, a round, as a round requires a minimum of three voices.

The next one is going to be a real stinker to choose between. :(

Really not a fan of either, but I went with Staircase. I can't stand the desperate Howard wanting to take advantage of some mature women (I could phrase that whole thing a lot more crudely believe me, it was the way he phrased it I didn't like in particular) and the stoner storyline in AD.

I love Creepy Howard in general. I love him wanting to take advantage of a mature woman? Come on the cousin story was hilarious. These two arguably with Bath Item the three best episodes in this series history imo. But I went with Staircase. Which incidentally is loosing by a lot to Adhesive lol.

Adhesive wins in a landslide

Next one. Opening Night Excitation v The Birthday Syncrocity. Personally I think ON is overrated and over hyped. But compared to Birthday. I prefer ON. Had the SW plot.

OMG, that's a hard one, which is probably what Amy said, in both episodes. :icon_biggrin:

The only thing making me hesitate to vote ON, is Amy's YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! from Birthday.

It was just
