DrWackaDoodle Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 YMMV, but, ON was definitely the better written of the two episodes, IMO. I can't get over Bernie's elephant gestation just to satisfy some one-liner joke that only Molaro found funny. SO glad that joke is (by all appearances) dead. 3ku11 Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 (edited) I could do without both Shamy plots tbh personally. I found the Shamy First Sex too clichied for my liking. And in Birthday. I felt Shamy having sex distracted away from the main plot of Howardette giving birth. But I went ON for the SW plot. I know what you mean, the virginal all-in-white thing was quite ordinary. They kept it all so tepid because there was so much expectation and they didn't want to upset any fans. But it ended up unfunny and Amy was way too coy. In the scene prior to the bedroom scene, she was eager to get started and she used to get laughs with her crudeness but they made it all so safe, which is disappointing as it was SHELDON and it should have been a very funny scene. serena_1995 Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 Both episodes made a creepy spectacle out of Sheldon's sex life(poor thing ! )... In Opening Night the whole "sex as a gift" thing was weird. Amy didnt even check in with Sheldon whether he was ok, whether he was doing it for the right reasons and not due to some unspoken pressure to PUT OUT, especially immediately after the break up/getting back together . She didnt even wonder to Penny and Bernadette. Sex to show how much Amy means to him....nope. Amy was just ready to receive her "GIFT"........ There was nothing "Shamy" about Opening Night. It could have been any couple. Just another plot about a man giving up his nerdy interests to please his female partner. A similar plot could have worked for Howard and Bernadette (except instead of sex choose another activity that Howard surprises Bernie with). Birthday Synchronicity was more "Shamy " with Amy checking with Sheldon , the MRI brain scan gift and cosplay....but I can't get past Bernie having a 10 month pregnancy...BAD writing. B plot of Opening Night was better.

spidergirl Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 (edited) I think shamy might be everything but be seen as any typical couple in their late 30s losing their virginity in ON. They were still the quirks we were used to see until that time. There was the part Sheldon challeged himself to break his nerdy things routines for please his girlfriend in her birthday who he learned from the breaking up he failed too much as he didnt show much affection for her or did things for her. Regards Amy as she did not ask Sheldon if was ok to him they initiated their sexual life, I think there was an natural enthusiasm from Amy as they had reunited recently and they were surely to make some compromises to each other for their relationship improved and everyone knows Amy always wanted Sheldon took that specific step forward in their relationship because he wanted and not for feeling pushed to do it. Besides it was the birhday of the girl, she was so happy that forgot to ask , she did not push Sheldon to do what he did not want: have in mind that he was who wanted to have sex with Amy in first place. She did not raped him or something alike, she only showed she wanted to have sex too. Sheldon called it a gift, an issue for some. If we think back in s9e1, Sheldon showed signs he was thinking to introduce the sex theme in his relationship with Amy at least soon. There were a few hints in Howardette's place as shamy talked and Amy broke up with Sheldon as he was being not sensitive as he spoke about they could not have offspring because she was taking too much time to decide if they would still be a couple or not. Enjoying or not The Opening Night plot, imho the shamy first time in sex field could not be more shamy style. We even had clueless Sheldon about Amy had enjoyed it or not , or saying better as the writers had their teasing touch, if Amy "had enjoyed" the SW movie. Because I remember Sheldon had the line "we can find our together". I remember going ugh lol. Look I'm not invested as much into Shamy as you or others. So maybe I missed something. But just my opinion as an unbiast observer.
3ku11 Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Well ON won in a landslide. Next one. Barbarian Sublimation is an absolute classic from this show. I hate The Long Distant Dissoinance so much lol. Who voted for that episode. Yeah Yeah Sheldon proposed.
spidergirl Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 (edited) It is really interisting what pleases some, displeased others. Barbarian to me is one of the less funniest episodes of the show. Well, what matters is we are able to share our opinions and respect the others, always. Edited July 21, 2017 by spidergirl

Yeah...Barbarian is one of the FINEST episodes of TBBT for me(first episode of TBBT i watched ) . I love Penny-centric episodes. Kaley is amazing in it. Its not often we see Penny descend into the virtual world madness as Queen Penelope in Age of Conan, while Sheldon and Leonard act like the rational characters for a change. It is a quite original premise. I really liked the guys doing the Non Newtonian fluid (i think corn starch ?) experiment and funny lines from Leslie and Gablehauser . Vintage old school geeky TBBT at its' best. Also, Sheldon as "Sheldor the Conqueror" AKA Penny's clueless but supportive & intelligent "mentor" >>>>> Dog/child Sheldon who the entire gang has to manage /take care of..from running into traffic among other things in Long Distance. Agreed. This comparison clearly shows how the series has become unilateral and unimaginative. Unbelievable. bfm Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 (edited) Barbarian, easily. Penny-Kaley was great and was the center which is rare, Sheldon accidentally picks up a guy, the corn starch is a classic and poor Leonard trying to be the voice of reason. (Bonus for Lennys: Notice that when Penny enters 4A looking for Sheldon everybody is stunned because it is a deviation from what always happens which is her coming for Leonard...) 3ku11 Posted July 21, 2017 Posted July 21, 2017 Long Distance winning 47-37 votes. Who's voting for that episode? Yeah Yeah Sheldon proposed. It just seems ppl forget the show post 2010. Hopefully Barbarian wins. Quality over Quantity.

I think the answer to that question is ; most of you. Long is fresh in the mind and therefore most likely to be chosen. Barbarian is a Penny episode, her first, they are pretty rare. I love it, she's so fantastic. I love Penny and here she becomes a gamer, I've been down those dark roads. It's quite beautiful, the transistion. Sheldon always at the centre, although he wishes he wasn't. So good. Edited July 21, 2017 by Spaced_up

She's not been the same the last few years. I started watching in 2019-10 and I thought she was fantastic. In my opinion Kaley is one of the most underrated comic actresses of her time, she reminds me of Lucille Ball, I think she has moments when she's exceptional, her timing and facial expression and the way she reads a moment is quite special. Kaley is not like the other actresses at her level, there's something untouched, about her which makes her so loved and kind of misunderstood. She can seem a little ditsy but far too accessable and I have this feeling that Kaley is smarter than we know and kinder then we deserve. They probably all are. 3ku11 Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 Barbarian is a timeless classic. It's not really about preference. Long Distance Ressonance is a pretty bad episode. Their are far stronger episodes then this episode. So one should pick Barbarian. Simply because 90% ppl would say it's the superior episode.. And it is what matters to me as I am voting for an episode tournament. 2 hours ago, 3ku11 said: Barbarian is a timeless classic. It's not really about preference. First I had not said Long was among my favourites from the show and when you said they are stronger episodes than it, yeah, it is the only thing I agree with you in this conversation. But the votation round was between two episodes. So it is to pick one or the other. And it is not about preference? No, sorry but to me it is what is a votation for. Preferences. Which are the motivations of people for vote it is up to each of the voters and just because it is a classic for most of viewers it doesnt mean I have to vote in it. To me Barbarian is a bad episode, for you is Long distance, so no big deal. That's why we are free tbbt fans who vote in whatever we prefer. Would you just do something in your life because 90 % of people usually do , even if you would be not confortable about that or if it would make you feel miserable and there would not be a chance of you be happy about that? I would't. So I voted Long as some fans voted and you voted Barbarian as others fans voted. Simple and plain. I don't think there are any episodes that every single viewer loves or hates in this show, maybe Speckerman is closest to universal dislike but there may be fans out there of that episode. Spaced_up Posted July 22, 2017 Posted July 22, 2017 I didn't like the plot of Long distance at all. Not because of the tag either. I didn't like the way that contact with a female friend was automatically seen as a threat on so little evidence. The way everyone thought they had a right to intervene. As it happens Ramona was interesed but it just as easily could have been innocent. All the pushing her out of the way on the stairs was kind of silly.
