I think TBBT is lucky since it's a decent show in an era of bad TV. If Molaro and Holland were in charge of TBBT back in the 70's and 80's the show wouldn't be on the air now. Instead both of them would be asking you if you wanted extra pickle on your Big Mac. JMO obviously.

I agree with what you say even if I'm one of those handful of fans on the internet. I'd like a complete shake up of the writing team but agree that won't ever happen. In order to solve a problem you first have to admit you have one. In their eyes (TPTB) they don't and with the ratings they currently have there is an argument to be made for their point of view. That does not alter the fact that each of us watches for our own enjoyment, and that if things are not to our liking we'd hope for a change. My main complaints are related to the direction the show has taken creatively, but I understand it is difficult to argue with commercial success.

I agree. Creative integrity is important too and can actually go hand in hand with commercial success. After all, when TBBT started , commercial success and high ratings  weren't handed over to them . They earned it , to some extent. Back in season 2, when the show was taking off and TV critics started praising it , it also received a lot of Emmy and other awards buzz , especially for Jim and Johnny. So artistic reasons and critical praise can also attract audiences  to discover shows and  check out what all the fuss is about. Not to mention, TBBT was (one of) the top rated sitcoms in season 6 or 7 too . But back then, I just felt the plots and dialogues were better, more intricate and the jokes were actually funny IMO. Nowadays, even if the premise is new and different on paper, the execution turns out to be really broad, non-subtle unfunny and  uninspired.  The current seasons are built on the previous ones. I can also argue that coasting on the stories, gags, humor, characterization, audience base and awards recognition established by previous seasons is also not very difficult...as long as they don't cross over the line from safe mediocrity to actively horrible stories. I'm not saying they specifically do it, but there is always a possibility. JMO.

For viewers of Virgin Media,  E4 has been moved from  Channel 144 to Channel 6.  E4+1 is still Channel 146.

Episode 10.24 is on at 8pm and 11.01 is at 8.30 as Strawberry has reminded us. Yay !

I wonder if we'll get some new viewers, channel-hopping, who don't normally get as far as 144 ? :)

Time to hit the hotel bar and quaff a few chilled beverages I believe.

JMO, between episode 4 with Leonard's mother and this one about a parenting book (even though it is skewered toward Sheldon) maybe they are planting some seeds for a possible LENNY story arc for trying to conceive.........just an optimistic shot in the dark!

Get a kick that Lenny  need to learn new tactics of dealing with Sheldon after 10+ years. I would suggest maybe a swift kick to his balls?

What kind of parenting book do you recommend? The Zarnecki - Fulfillment Ecstasy? :icon_cheesygrin:

For once I actually agree with you on something. even the first season of this Show would not have made it on the Air in the 1970s, 1980s and even the 1990s. This show would never made it on the air back then at all. Even if it did it would not have lasted more then 1 season maybe 2 but it would have been shortlived. the  1970s and 1980s were a  very different time. TV was different and viewing Audience was different. The people who watch TBBT  a lot of them were born in the 1980s and 1990s.

This is a Show that came on at the right time.  2007 was in an era of bad Television which kind of started in 1999 when shows of less quality and bad writing were starting t be made. Actually, most would agree that we are still in an Era of bad television.  TBBT was the best show in an Era of bad TV which why it's done so well and been so Popular.

Most f the writers (with exception of Chuck Lorre) would not have had a Job on TV In the 1970s and 1980s. Most of the writers in those days were of a  much higher standard then they are now. In the 1980s and 1990s TV was still watchable and sitcoms were actually Funny overall.  TV was of a much higher quality then. Most TV SHows on the Air today would not have made it on the Air 20-40 years ago and more

Honest to dog - WHERE do you get the idea television was GREAT in the 70s and 80s?

There were some great shows - Mary Tyler Moore, Hill St. Blues, M*A*S*H - but a lot of total dross.

In the era of the space program, space food sticks, Apollo-Soyuz, the technology of the Cold War - a show about physicists certainly would have had a good chance.

Nowadays there is a LOT more competition for a television show and TBBT survived and ten years later attracts advertising and a shitload of runs in syndication.

No, it's called that because there are a ton of critically acclaimed shows being made and while for a long while movies were the go-to goal for an actor to make it big these days there's more prestige found in TV, hence why you see established movie actors go back to TV these days.

Critically acclaimed by who. Certainly TBBT is not critically acclaimed any more.

Becaue it was. when were you born? Lol the 1970s had All In The Family, Maude, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bob Newhart Show, M*A*S*H, Maude, Jeffersons, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Three's Company, Jeffersons, Good Times, Sanford and Son,  Alice, Carol Burnett Show, The Waltons, Little House, etc,.

The 1980s had Cheers, Golden Girls, Growing Pains, Cosby Show, Family Ties, Night Court, Kate & Allie, Silver Spoons, Newhart,  The facts of Life, Matlock, Murder She Wrote, Magnum P.I,, Dallas, etc,.  While some of those may not be the best shows ever and some I not really a fan of they are all better shows than any that is currently on the air today.

TBBT was not critically acclaimed din it first season If I not mistaken. And ratings fell over the course of season 10.

The only Critically  Acclaimed shows in recent years have been on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and other Online sites like that who now doing original programming which is sad quite frankly. And even tV Shows form the 1970s-1990s are better then Shows on there.

Millenials would rather watch the Kardashians. That how bad TV has gotten. A lot of fo medicare or bad acting now too.

Uh, born in time to remember watching Laugh-in, kid.

I hope you're not suggesting something like "Three's Company" is better than TBBT.

And  there is more competition now with cable, etc.   Few folks watched ALL of those shows.  There was time and room for something like TBBT.  And, as is the case today, just because those shows were successful doesn't mean they were good.  Folks are still watching MTM, but not Three's Company.
