I’m sorry. I just don’t like the character. There is plenty that draws more to TBBT. Sheldon Cooper isn’t one of the reasons. Again. I just don’t like him. If that’s bashing, then so be it.

He's supposed to be liked ? Where have I been for ten years ?

Ha!  Don't you think at some level, all the characters are supposed to be "liked" in one way or another?  I have no warm feelings for Dr. Cooper.  At all.  Sorry to say......

I was born in 1961 and spent many hours watching television in the 'Golden Age'. Some of these shows were truly cutting edge and deserve to be remembered as classics. Those would be: All in the Family, Maude, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bob Newhart Show, M*A*S*H, Carol Burnett Show, Dallas, Cheers, Cosby, Newhart, and some episodes of the others. Early seasons of The Waltons were truly great television. Later years were incredibly silly at times and about as classic as Charlie's Angels.

Others were mostly light weight programming; Happy Days, Threes Company, Jeffersons, Good Times, Sanford and Son, Little House, Growing Pains, Family Ties, Magnum P.I. and many others such as The Dukes of Hazard, The A-Team, and so on.

Looking back with a nostalgic eye is something we all like to do. But, as Billy Joel said, "The good old days weren't always good, and tomorrow's not as bad as it seems."

TBBT would hold it's own in any era of television. It probably would not have been number one in a different era, but The Andy Griffith Show, The Beverly Hillbillies, and other classics wouldn't even get made today. For that matter, All in the Family would not get made today. Charlie's Angels wouldn't get made without putting bras on the women...

A few of those were bought by the BBC or ITV and were shown here. We had only two TV channels. All in the Family was a remake of the BBC's Johnny Speight's Till Death Us Do Part.  Funnily enough, AITF was sold back to us. It was pretty much on the mild side compared to the original, we thought.

Dallas was very popular in the 1980s, especially with children and people who liked clothes. Oh those shoulder pads !  And the adultery !  I liked Golden Girls, WKRP in Cincinatti, and Soap. With the omission of the fornication  TBBT would be funny in any era, even going back to the 1950s, I'd say. We got our first TV in 1957 and I Love Lucy was on then. I've watched some episodes recently on Netflix and I can see some of those audiences accepting TBBT.

You know what interesting about Lucille Ball ‘the Queen of Comedy’ is that she like All In The Family and love Maude! Which oz kind of funny because they were the total opposite of The Humor and Comedy of I Love Lucy and her other shows. All in The Family and Maude you think Would not her type of humor and what she would find funny.

Actually, she hated ALITF at first but eventually grew to like it. Not saying it became a favorite of her but she grew to like it. She understood it was groundbreaking and accepted it for what it was.

Her favorite was Three’s Company which more in the realm of her type of comedy. She even appeared on the show

Actually, he didn't have a normal dad.  His father was gone a lot on expeditions and when he was home, he spent a lot of time with the findings of those expeditions.  Remember Leonard complaining about his dad spending more time with the Etruscan boy, then with him?   I would also say, from his descriptions that Alfred was rather brow beaten by Beverly, which probably didn't help his relationship with Leonard.  So Bev was the major factor in Leonard's young life.  Not excusing Leonard, and I can understand your not getting Leonard.  I was specifically addressing your  comment about having a normal dad.  He didn't , based on what's been shown.

His dad seemed like a nice guy when he was introduced but according to Leonard he was absent most of the time. He was bullied in school and by his brother. He says the only fond memories he has are of his Uncle Floyd. So no, I don't think he had plenty of other examples. He was treated as a total faliure by nearly everone he knew, or at least was in contact with on a daily basis. Don't get me wrong, he shouldn't tolerate Sheldon, but he is flawed. Also, if Leonard did not tolerate Sheldon they wouldn't have a show so... And it could be argued that taking a passive-agressive stance is being more active than ignoring. This aside, after all these years I can see why he gets more aggravated, he is sick of it...

I don't remember a lot about Leonard's backstory so you guys are probably right! That said, I mentioned Leonard's dad more as a side note, whatever his childhood was even if it was that tragic (tbh whenever the show does remarks about Leonard/Sheldon/Howard being pushed to the toilets in school and stuff my mind just blocks it, I can't believe that stuff even happens to anybody : ( ), he's been adult long enough and he can say no to people now and even to Penny who's the love of his life so I just find it implausible he can not outright say 'no' to Sheldon...

I do agree it's a sitcom so mainly it's the writers choice cause they think it's a source of jokes so we can not completely get rid of it, I just wish it was handled differently and Leonard had more of Howard stance maybe, being more clear and open when he's aggravated by something Sheldon does.

One thing I would disagree with you on - @bfm - when I was talking about ignoring I meant that some people are just naturally chill and are not bothered easily, that's how I perceived Leonard a lot in earlier seasons. Sometimes Sheldon would say something completely offensive but Leonard would seem generally chill about it, not like he was holding back or suppressing anger. So in that sense, I preferred it to passive aggression.

Doesen't this logic also apply to Sheldon? IF were taking the stance oh Leonard is as adult now. So is Sheldon. Why justify Sheldons outrageous behaviour? Like last season allowing a roommate to live in 4A without Lenny's knowledge or permission. That was unacceptable. And of course Lenny enable Sheldon. But I just don't buy this reasoning. When surley Sheldon should know better by now as well.

Looks like the filler part of the episode.

Yeah that seems filler to me personally. Im more interested in the Leonard/Penny/Bev plot.

Just watched the episode and thought it was great. I lol'd a lot.

Loved Lenny,  I think Leonard's reaction to his mom being proud of who he married speaks volumes.  Texting more mustard, that crap happens at my house.

Amy and Leonard awesome, they were both just having completely different conversations  with themselves. Good talk!

Sheldon and Howard good times.

Penny and Beverly, Kaley owned this. What time is it where you are?

Howard and Bernie the looks on their faces when they said it was a boy, priceless

This episode had some real potential, but, again, they're trying to work too many people into each episode.

But I liked it.

I could of done without the tag. My daughter predicted before it happened. It must be in JP's contract the number of scenes he is. LOL

Haha, totally agree.

LOVE Beverly very much, that line:" Hi, Pen...Oh, hello, Leonard." LMAO。。。

I hope we can get more Beverly and Penny scenes together, these two is GOLD together.

Fillers are fine. It doesn't have to be a big step in life for the gang every week. Sometimes life just ticks over and can be enjoyable like that.

Nah, not filler AT ALL.

Howard and Sheldon's interactions are one of TBBT's most interesting scenes since...well...EVER.

I think early seasons Leonard was not as aware of how twisted life with Sheldon is as he was later. That is in some ways what he was used to, so for him Sheldon was somewhat weird but that was his life, he didn't know much else. Remember "The Staircase Implementation"? Retrospectively, seven years later, he could tell that there were warning signs, but at the time he was mosly oblivious, he thought these were peculiar but not "batcrap crazy".

I do agree putting up with things later on, say seasons 8-9 was less reasonable. Maybe some of it was because he kind of got used to it. He also seems to pitty Sheldon sometimes. Not that that excuses enabling Sheldon's behavior. Later on Penny also becomes much more supportive of Sheldon, which I think is a shame. In season 9 Leonard actually tried to stand up to Sheldon and they had Penny, who has always told Leonard he should stand up to him, taking Sheldon's side! That was completely twisted! In season 7 with the table Leonard was encouraged to take a stance by Penny but he did try to maintain it, he caved when everybody else did. As you and I said there is the need to keep the formula that affects the logic, or lack there of, of the story.

I was pleasantly suprised tonight Lenny actually had the funniest parts. I thought sheldon and Howard were pretty boring

Could have done without the Howard/Sheldon storyline. More Bernadette/Howard; more Raj/Bernadette, but mostly more Penny/Beverly/Leonard. The Hofstadters had the funniest scenes of the season!
