BTW...Besides James Maslow as Bartender, we have two more guest stars in "The Reclusive Potential". Peter MacNicol as Doctor Wolcott and Edward James Gage as Mailman.

I attended tonight’s taping. We were unaware of Stephen Hawking’s passing. I’m not sure if the cast or crew knew at that time (we got out at 9:30), but I didn’t see any signs of anyone being aware.

Hawking was not in any pretaped scenes for this episode.

Thanks for letting us know. The news was breaking around the time they'd be wrapping up then. There were instagrams from the cast and crew. They must have found out about it when they came offstage. 

I think he'd be glad it didn't spoil anybody's enjoyment. We know he loved BBT. Did you have a good time at the taping ?

Short summary:

”The Reclusive Potential”

Penny and Bernadette surprise Amy with a quilting bee bachelorette party, complete with tea to drink. When they discover it’s not the wild night of poor decision making that Amy had wanted, they take her to a bar.

The guys accompany Sheldon to visit Dr. Walcott, an unusual, reclusive man who lives in a cabin in the woods. Alone, hyper-focused on his work, and kinda crazy, he has done some work that will help Sheldon in his string theory efforts. Not a bachelor party in any typical sense (Sheldon didn’t want one), meeting Dr. Wolcott nevertheless provides one last look at a life Sheldon might’ve once thought ideal.

 

This is a funny and sweet episode, IMO, and I don’t think the short summary really conveys that, so I’ll try to write out something better tomorrow.

Bit about Sheldon is interesting. Of course theirs always been references to his former life. Where he was hyper focused, isolated, and all about his work. So a Rexamining of his previous life. And where he is headed is far better. Could be a final goodbye to the old Sheldon.

But the way you worded that Sheldon plot actually makes it sound semi-deep.

Well its her Bachelor party. And they are not going to a Bar. They are having Tea.

I was surprised, looking at the cast list, how small the 'parties' were. Is this normal in the US ?

So, no Will or Stuart? The number of attendees depends on the person. This is Sheldon, not too many friends has he. Besides, he had a large amount of guests at his birthday party.

Okay so they go to a bar. They had bars in Friends, How I met your mother, Cheers, Sienfeld e.t.c. Why is this suddenly a shocker in this show.

I think in the earlier years, it was a no brainer that they would go to a bar. But as they (mostly Penny) matured, the bars seems not as fun anymore. Probably tired of being hit on. Amy still enjoys it though. I'd thought more women invited with a get together party in 4 A as it is larger. With that said, a bar works for me.

First of all, it depends on the person. Not everybody wants a big party like Sheldon.

Second, it depends on how well your wishes are known to the person who organises the whole shebang. It sounds like the girls came up with an idea that seems tailored to Amy but she actually wanted a more classic "wild night of poor decision making".

Sounds like believable reasons why neither really ends up with a big typical party.
