I do agree that the chemistry between Kaley and Johnny worked in her favor. Thank god!!!

I've honestly never seen the unaired pilot so I don't know. The show's success indicates they clearly made the right decision in terms of casting, tweaking the actual characters and their personalities etc.

I watched it online just a couple of months ago.  She kind of looked like a drug addicted hooker and Leonard’s reactions to her were not good for his character.  The actress was obviously playing a completely different role which did not go over well with audiences.  And it is hard to picture a better actress than Kaley  for the final role.  Also dumping ass man Sheldon and going to virginal Sheldon was a brilliant move.

It's been so long since I've seen that original pilot.  Maybe it is time to revisit.....I looked on imdb (International Movie Data Base) this weekend and I don't think it was this way previously, but they do list the "Un-Aired Pilot" as an episode of The Big Bang Theory (although, it has the number "0" for the 2006 season).  Also, Johnny and Jim are credited witn 252 episodes, while Kaley, Simon and Kunal are at 251.  Melissa has 181 and Mayim 175. Rounding out the top 10 are Kevin Sussman with 69; Carol Ann Susi with 40; and John Ross Bowie with 21.  Just to keep going: Laura Spencer is at 17; Wil Wheaton at 15 (to me, it seem as if he has more!!); Brian George (Raj's dad) with 14 and Laurie Metcalf and Christine Baranski with 13 appearences.  Interestingly Aarti Mann (Priya) and Ian Scott Rudolph (Captain Sweatpants) are also tied with 12!!!

Yeah, the writers might have ruined it for some viewers but surely not for the characters. So if by "ruining Shamy's wedding" we end up with a moment where Leonard or Penny get all mushy with a BFFs4ever speech then by all means I wouldn't mind that much. lol

...perhaps I'm off base, but the fact that Dr. Cooper needed to interrupt the ceremony and make it partially about him is what left a bad taste in my mouth. So much so that Bernadette as the officiant needed to comment as she completed her portion of the wedding vows....but then "comedy for comedy's sake....

I have watched the unaired pilot a couple times online now the last time I have seen it was 3 years ago. It was not very good at all. The show would not have lasted. It was actually darker. IMO Howard and Raj added a lot and so did Kaley as Penny especially. I think she saved the Show from not being picked up or from being canceled after a few episodes.  And the second pilot has much better chemistry.  between the Cast  

The most shocking thing?? sheldon like Girls and had sex at Comic-Con while in costume! lol

I thought the same thing about when Marie had to interrupt Robert Wedding on Everybody Loves Raymond to make her little speech because he wouldn't let her in the Men Dressing Room earlier. Amy look like she was about to strangle the nutcase.

I didn't see that in Friends, but I wonder if it was as bad as when the manure lorry,Eddie the dog and Daphne's labour hijacked Martin's wedding on Frasier ?

Okay, I give you the Eddie but come on he a Dog!  Daphne brother getting the flower Girl drunk at her wedding to Niles was worst. Now Daphne going into labor was no big deal. I sure lot of women go into labor at weddings as babies come when they are ready and I sure Martin was not offended one bit as it was his Grandchild being born on his wedding Day.

Hence why I said "ruined it for some viewers". I know you and others didn't like it but for what it's worth I don't think it was mean spirited so for all I care a similar friendly interruption would be fine with me for Shamy's wedding. I expect something to go "wrong" after all so if it's only boiling down to a friend saying nice things then sure...

Just because it may not have been "mean spirited" doesn't justify his actions.

I would not say ruined either, but he could have held that hug for later and not when Bernadette was pronouncing them man and wife! That should have been an intimate moment for the bride and groom

...and that's what I meant "comedy for comedy's sake".  That it is in Sheldon's personality to insert himself in every situation and make all events about him is an irritant to me.  I will feel badly when the comedic item deters from Sheldon/Amy fans enjoyment of the big moment.....

I understand it all too well.
Sheldon is utterly ridiculous in some episodes and it's too annoying for me to possibly find his behaviour amusing.
Character development isn't usually something to complain about, but the whole premiss of the show sort of stopped existing. I mean I've invested over a decade into the show. But it's starting to get pretty stale and the Sheldon Show is not the show I signed up for.

I can't agree more!  And something that has been bothering me most of this season (I preface what I say next with that I am guardedly happy about the better treatment Penny & Leonard are receiveing) is that every single tag scene (or the greater number of tag scenes) in every episode has to include Sheldon.  That for me is a grrrrrrr! moment....

I can understand why people didn't like Friends. But the episode could be about anyone. It was unpredictable. TBBT very predictable thus why overall IMO Friends is/ was a better show.
