But the topic of children really hasn't been discussed till the one episode. So the viewer is suppose to ignore previous years and go by his statement of 15 kids.

I thought funniest part of that episode was where he thought Penny would agree to have some of his brood.

It was a factor for a long while on the show. The issue IMO at this point looks like it has been dropped because of lack of interest again IMO.

The lack of intimacy was a factor pre-break up, I don't think it's been anywhere near as big a factor since they got back together. There is a logical reason for that because they are happy with how their relationship is, I've seen no evidence to suggest they aren't happy.

I've not seen any desperation from either of them and I saw it mainly as comedy anyway which they did for years with Amy saying something suggestive and eager for something and the comedy line was that Sheldon was oblivious to it. I never saw Amy as this sex starved nympho some people think she is or was.

He has never shown interest in other people's kids. The prospect of having kids with Amy however? He's been excited about that since they met. I mean, literally, that's what 4x01 is about.

He immediately said in the episode he doesn't expect Amy to carry them.

Yeah, he wanted Penny (Mrs Hofstadter) to carry some. As if that would ever happen. Maybe when there is a cold day in hell.

He wanted them in a petri dish. Then when Penny mentioned his mothers born again Christian beliefs that excitement went away.

It's a joke, unless they decide to do a surrogate story on the show it should be treated as such.

Well, considering that was the second time he wanted Penny to carry his and Amy's kid, you have to believe his intent. Remember, Sheldon has said he always says what he means and always means what he says. You got it from the horses mouth, himself.

Since I didn't hear a Bazinga, it wasn't a joke. Besides, Sheldon Cooper don't do jokes! Unless you are saying the writers are joking.

Agreed. But the whole set up of them wanting kids was a joke. It was brought up just because of Howdette.

The writers probably forgot the first time he said that

He jolly well knows she won't. She said no to that seven and a half years ago. He's referring back to old conversations, just as Leonard is. It's as far as his sense of humour goes.

Two gags in 7 years, i'll need to see a lot more evidence than that.

I'll make a bet right now that Penny doesn't become a surrogate for Sheldon and Amy and they don't have more than 3 kids at the most but I would guess 2.

We will see when we get the flash forwards for each character at the end of the show (I will be shocked if we don't get those type of scenes at the end).

Hell is a village in Norway - they have plenty of cold days. Well, there's also Hell, California, which occasionally has some cold days. So there. ;D

But seriously, the answer to "Penny doesn't want to be a surrogate" is probably that Shamy have to look elsewhere for one. No big deal.

These writers forget? Com'on. (sarcasm).

You know what I mean. I didn't think I had to spell everything out to people. In the future I will make everything perfectly clear.

Why? If people want that they can go read fan fiction.

People will have seen the characters grow and change over 12 seasons or more so they will want to see where they ended up a few years down the line IMO.

Don't you want to see Leonard and Penny sitting around on a couch in their house in a scene with their 'smart and beautiful babies' around them doing something sciency or brainy for example?

I think we will get scenes for all the characters, though goodness knows what Raj's future scene will be like.

Yeah, I don't think they'll have a ton of kids either - surely not more than a handful. And more than two only if they have twins the second time or they go the surrogate route (not with Penny, obviously!).

You mean Lennies family and Sheldon? No thank you.

Personally these writers have shown they only care about Shamy. So I see one of those episodes about Shamy with just a few tidbits of the other couples thrown in for good measure.

Sheldon is not required to adjust his sex drive to Amy's. Both parties have to be willing to have sex, and there is more to a relationship than sex.

I think things will change once they are married. While they are still legally single they are not obliged to undergo any sexual activity at all. It wouldn't surprise me if they'd discussed that very fact and agreed - very possibly in writing in triplicate - to wait until marriage before it becomes a frequent event.  I'm willing to bet a fiver that after the knot is tied officially they'll be at it like knives.

I know people say they have wanted a big family but when they finally have a child they change their mind and only have another one or two at most.

I can see that happening with Shamy lol

Exactly. Life happens. Or in this case rather whatever the writers think will fit them. Maybe they let Shamy have multiples on first try and decide that's enough. Who knows? LOL

I'm not seeing the need for them to have children. Many couples don't. Would it make their life miserable if they didn't? I don't think so.

Doesn't negate what he has done.

Again, I think gender is a factor in how we perceive these issues.

Except it does, as if it was right that he would do anything for sex than he would have slept with both women at that time.

Also, I am female. Don't generalize, not all Lennys are male.

I agree. I think Shamy would have a fulfilled life together without children. However, they have long believed it their duty to humankind to produce beings with superbrains. Only last season Sheldon was still keen on it. He was even boasting how well their skin cells were doing.

His children could be like his siblings
