I agree. I think Shamy would have a fulfilled life together without children. However, they have long believed it their duty to humankind to produce beings with superbrains. Only last season Sheldon was still keen on it. He was even boasting how well their skin cells were doing.

I've said this before, It would be funny if Sheldon had kids and they were like his description of Missy and George Jr, as being dumber than a box of rocks.:icon_cheesygrin:

I'm not seeing the need for them to have children. Many couples don't. Would it make their life miserable if they didn't? I don't think so.

True and there is nothing wrong with that decision. But Shamy clearly do want children at some point.

His children could be like his siblings

That was why he bottled out of leaving  his deposit at the high IQ sperm bank in the first episode. I suppose he thinks with Amy's genes in the mix there'll be less of a chance. Perhaps the thought of having them be the first Martians would have been sufficient compensation.

Based on the last episode?

Exactly. Shamy have always been enthusiastic about the prospect of their own kids - if only because their "genetic material has the potential of producing the first in a line of intellectually superior, benign overlords to guide humanity to a brighter tomorrow." lol

Nobody needs to have kids these days but clearly many couples still want and have them.

That leaves to the question, if Amy had, let's say, twin boys and one had a IQ of 180 and the other had an IQ of 120. Would he treat the boys the same or favor one over the other?

Has the prospect of having kids ever been brought up without being a part of a punch line?

They say becoming a father can change you a lot and I am not a parent myself, but I would imagine Sheldon will love his kids no matter what they are like. If they are like him he will love them, if they are like Amy he will love them and even if they are more on the intellectual scale of his siblings he will love them. There is that bond formed.

I'll never get to see Sheldon transform and continue to evolve because of fatherhood which is a shame and kind of sad for me personally but I think whilst it would have scary moments for him it would probably be the best thing that has happened to him or one of the best things.

This is a sitcom - basically everything is a punchline.

But yes, it's been brought up in 4x01, again in 8x17 ("our kids would be Martians!"), again in 10x08 where all episode long Sheldon literally wanted to make a baby, and again now in S11.

They are an engaged couple, very much in love. Ofcourse they spent time in bed

This!

Just reiterates that Shamy are like every other couple out there with two intelligent albeit quirky people (which from my experience to quirky people meeting and falling in love happens quite bit too).  This is why for me Shamy is not unique.  Back when I cared enough, I could write all the ways that they could have made them a truly unique and stand out couple but on screen, I see all the ways they are just 2 people that found each other.  Their early story was compelling and unique to me.  Now, not so much. There are other couples and dynamics on this show which I find more interesting.

I would love to see more of what's going on the lives of the rest of our gang.  I still hold on to the hope of a more balanced show.

I beg to differ. Howdette had a discussion and so did Lenny without any punch lines.

It's not like Amy has ever said "I want sex [X] amount of times per year!" and Sheldon replied "Well, you get one!" So far Amy seems to be quite alright with the arrangement which isn't even strictly once a year as 10x23 showed. So I don't think whatever sex drive she has is massively different from Sheldon's.

And making someone engage in sex against their will is called rape. Consent is important and has been portrayed as such especially with Shamy's relationship in that they're explicitly establishing consent each and every time by asking, setting the mood and even making sure to not do it for the wrong reasons. So yeah, the low frequency might be a bit silly but in general there's nothing wrong with their sex life as such.

I think you have to take it that Amy and Sheldon are fine about their sex life, it it wasn't then it would be brought up and discussed with them or if it couldn't work and they never agreed then they would break up. Amy has broken up with Sheldon before don't forget because she wasn't happy about many aspects of their relationship with intimacy and commitment both being factors. So yeah I think you have to take the fact they are clearly in love and very happy the state their relationship is in that there is no issue there.

Sex lives are always a tricky subject because each couple or person is different and it's no different with Sheldon and Amy. I take the view if they enjoy it (which they clearly do) then there is no harm in doing it more often in fact I think and this sounds cheesy there are benefits to it lol. But their arrangement if you want to call it that works for them, so why should we judge? We wouldn't in real life, that would be the wrong thing to do.

So yes I don't think you can judge and unless you actually see evidence that one of them is unhappy and desires more intimacy then you have to assume they are fine in regards to that aspect of their relationship.

Great posts guys. There is nothing to indicate Amy is unhappy about their sex lives. As far as I'm aware, once a year is totally acceptable to her.

People will have seen the characters grow and change over 12 seasons or more so they will want to see where they ended up a few years down the line IMO.

Don't you want to see Leonard and Penny sitting around on a couch in their house in a scene with their 'smart and beautiful babies' around them doing something sciency or brainy for example?

I think we will get scenes for all the characters, though goodness knows what Raj's future scene will be like.

It would be really nice to watch , but I highly doubt that  the writers care so much about Lenny.

And again: it's not even just "once a year" but clearly "once a year + special occasions when they feel like it". That may not make it much more frequent but to me it illustrates they're both fine with what they have now and that they'll adjust if necessary.

Obviously Lenny fans agree. The silence and no rebuttals from non Lenny fans speaks volumes IMO.

The differences wouldn't necessarily show. 120 is still sufficiently above average to do well academically. If that one were the hard-worker he could get as far, or even further, in science than a brother who coasted or who took little interest. Children place different demands on their parents at different times of their lives and it's not favoritism when it's possible to fulfil only one child's needs at a time. Eg they might be able to arrange for swimming lessons for one child who's asked for them, while being unable to obtain lion sperm for the other one.

I think Sheldon could bond more easily with whichever child was more like him in character but he'd make efforts not to seem biased.

The problem would be that Leonard, Raj, Howard and Bernadette would have a higher IQ. That would eat at him. But, I hope I'm wrong. Just because Amy and Sheldon both have high IQ's doesn't mean their off springs will. Look at Sheldon himself, George Sr and Mary weren't exactly the sharpest tools in the shed.  :sarcastichand:

I think things will change once they are married. While they are still legally single they are not obliged to undergo any sexual activity at all. It wouldn't surprise me if they'd discussed that very fact and agreed - very possibly in writing in triplicate - to wait until marriage before it becomes a frequent event.  I'm willing to bet a fiver that after the knot is tied officially they'll be at it like knives.

As much as I'd like the punchline of Amy getting one hell of a surprise during their honeymoon I don't think all that much will change. Maybe once they start with the actual baby making but so far I don't see anything that's holding them back beyond their own comfortableness with this arrangement. So Idk, maybe they'll add a few more fixed dates to the list or something like "once a month" but I don't think they'll go overboard with it.
