I think the real Laura Ingalls would be happy that a show was made based (loosely) on her books but would have had problems with some aspect of the show and some of it (more adult) storylines and that lots of things were made up

Lots of people have watched the show (like Amy) but have never read the books or read up on Laura Ingalls Wilder real life and so they think the show very accurate portrayal of her life.

I don't know what Laura would have thought. She really sanitized a lot of her life story and edited a lot at her daughter's suggestion. Her daughter to me was much more interesting person than Laura. It's not like the books weren't darkly themed, though. Laura starved and froze, was doing a quarter of Ma's work by the time she was eight years old, got hired out to a seamstress as a child, her sister went blind, her brother died (hardcore fans are still trying to figure out where baby Charles' grave is) and a childless family friend tried to take one of the girls off Pa's hands and later offered to trade a horse for Laura's daughter.

I have a friend who works at a Laura site and does a blog about the Ingalls family and there are still some die hard fans, but not as many as there used to be. I know the school system I sub in doesn't use the books anymore. Kids find them boring, the whole "only good Indian is a dead one" and the idea of girls and women working their tails off supporting men who were total losers doesn't play well anymore. Neither Pa or Almanzo ever succeeded at anything. But if Amy was one of those hard core fans, I think she would have read the books. She seems to me personally to be a reader, not just a TV watcher.

Sure. I am.

You know he will. I think he still has bad feelings for Raj after that time he lived with Lenny and that time he drunkenly slept with Penny.

I've seen no evidence of that. What scene or scenes make you think so?

Oh, now I see why Stuart's store becomes popular, it's not just that Stuart hires a woman as a cashier!

Perhaps he has to hire her because of the store's popularity.

i don't know why my quotes are coming up out of order. Sorry. This merging can be a pain.

Thank you very much Martin!

Maybe Siebert tells the guys they're having budget cuts... I don't know though why it only says Sheldon, as I remember seeing "Koothrappali" written in the casino scene, I thought all of the guys went.

I'm more intrigued about 11x21 though. The synopsis makes it seem as if the discovery is unequivocally Penny's, I would assume it would be more controversial. But the synopsis could be misleading. If she does deserve exclusive credit I hope Leonard supports her against Raj.

11X22- Wedding shopping and Vegas again............... Sorry I fell asleep for a minute typing.

Been thinking about the idea of Sheldon going to Vegas to raise money. If they do a Rainman sort of scene I don't know how they can keep saying he's not on the spectrum. Im referring to the Dustin Hoffman movie Rainman, of course.

Oh, the one from last year when he and Penny were thick as thieves while Leonard, (her husband), was left feeling like a third wheel. Then the episode from Season 5 when he and Penny got drunk and ended up in bed sleeping together, just sleeping. You know where she called Raj Quick draw? Leonard could have residual bad feelings from those times.

The spectrum is a very wide one, from what I've heard. Is it even possible to say someone is not on it at any particular time ? A Headmaster of a special school told me we all spend some time on it at some time in our lives.

The answer is definitely yes. While there is a great amount of heterogeneity among people with ASD and many of us may have some ASD-like features in various degrees, only a small percentage would meet the diagnostic criteria (which allow for this great diversity).

(I have listed the criteria in a thread about diagnosing Sheldon in the show forum)

They should support each other, married on stage and best friends off stage. :sarcastichand:

They don't have to mention the spectrum for this . He has an eidetic memory, he is great at math and he is a genius. That ought to be enough for him to count cards. On the other hand he has an issue....

Sheldon being an genius is an opinion. Never been sold hes a genius. Amy is smarter then him.

You totally missed the point, I was commenting on times Leonard might be upset with the quick draw artist known as Raj. I merely said Leonard might still be upset with Raj over those incidents. Some people hold grudges for some time and the anger could be brought back real easily.

It doesn't matter what you care about, I was referring to Leonard.

And I was countering that argument. By pointing out. Leonard being a thrid wheel is nothing Penny diddn't expierence.

It is a foundational premise of the show and always has been.

Quote

And Bill was talking about the 80s and the genius computer programmers that he was one of. And they were such remarkable characters that it kind of took over and then we said “What happens if we put the two ideas together?” and then I think the big move was to get them out of the computer world entirely and make them quantum physicists. They’re not entrepreneurs. They’re scientists. That freed us up from a lot of clichés. No pocket protectors!

Consideration of if Amy is a bigger genius is kind of beside the point.

Leonard rarely wears hoodies now, and it's been this way for 2-3 years (I think in these years we've seen Penny in hoodies more than we've seen Leonard in hoodies, whenever she's in sports wear). Sometimes the writers seem to stick so hard to the past that they don't think through the changes.

This has nothing to do with Penny feeling like a third wheel. All I'm saying is that Leonard may be harboring resentment towards Raj for those two incidents with Raj, which is why he would have no problem taking Penny's side over Raj in any argument. Along with the fact that Penny is his wife and to keep harmony in the marriage, he would take her side. Although Penny has no problem taking Sheldon's side over her husband.

If it's something arguable, like Raj set the telescope and Penny noticed the commet then Leonard may think the setting is more important and stumble on his words in front of Penny. On the other hand it could be something Penny should clearly be given credit for and Leonard would side with her, perhaps fueled by memories of Sheldon being unfair to him concerning credits. I would just wait and see.

But that scene in Rainman is the best known scene from the film. After the movie came out I had at least a hundred people ask me in a two year span if my son could count cards. If they go there they should know it's a copy of that scene, no matter what Sheldon's issues really are.

I do not know why a previous post quoted incorrectly. I hate it when that happens. But I asked if there was anything specific that made you think he still resents Raj, because I'm not seeing that and you came back with a lot of mights and mays and coulds. Is there anything specific in an actual scene that makes you think he does? Because if I missed something I want to go back and look at it. I certainly think it's possible he might but I personally haven't noticed him express it.

As for the ep, I also have to see it before I can decide what my opinion is.

Hasn’t Sheldon already demonstrated he can count cards when they did that card game episode where he ended up in a match against Will Weston years ago.  There were a couple scenes where he rattled off what cards were left and what each player was holding.

Leonard is the type of person that keeps it bottled up until something comes along and triggers an explosion (so to speak) of emotions to escape at once.

I don’t think we’ll see Leonard holding a grudge against Raj about the night of drunken lust between him and Penny, they sort of passed up the opportunity to do that when Raj stayed with them and became Penny’s best friend there for a couple weeks.   Of course if we still had Lenny going in the same direction as the previous couple of seasons, I would not have been surprised to find out tha Penny had a affair, out of the blue, a couple of years before based on how they were being written.

We had an episode where Raj was jamming with Bert in his new apartment. I know this season has been forgettable for long stretches but still...

Would the episode where Raj states that he is moving out of their apt. to live with Bert (btw which has never been mentioned again)  Leonard was in sync with Penny and was quick to ask when he is moving out. With Penny sending him apartment listings to nudge him to move I think they both started to feel uncomfortable with his presence.

We've seen the apartment over Bert's garage. It's basically a bedsit - everything in one room.
