The stories have been done to death. I don't care to have anymore stories about clothes not fitting, swollen feet, baby names, poopy diaper jokes, waiting at the hospital. One was good. Two was overkill. More then that is a totally different show. The first worked as a homage to Howards mom as you never have to see her. I say they can make a pregnancy announcement the very last episode of the show. I do not need to see everyones kids to be satisfied. Perhaps a reunion show years from now. Thank you! Just a hint: We don’t want the gravity of the show to shift to just being a family sitcom about home life and kids. (S. Holland) What's so hard to understand? TBBT has become a show about characters planning weddings and babies, really? This show would become a shred of what it used to be. There's an endless amount of directions they could take with new episodes, but it seems (for me), the writers have boxed themselves into this corner. Here’s just a small suggestion. spidergirl Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 (edited) Agree with you. @Sah on babies topic. In fact, I would like to add something, even I know some would not agree with me. I had not watched HIMYM before ( I tried once but I was not much in mood for that kind of show for some reason) and as I am at home recovering from a surgery, I gave another try. Imo it is very far from Tbbt quality and tbh it was a bit overated but it is entertaining. Barney is indeed a character that is worth to meet , lol. I brought HIMYM to the conversation because in its S4 both actresses who were Robin and Lilly were pregant as S4 aired and for me the way they choosed to hide it worked. I know some hate the fact they were wearing large clothes or were hidden behind bags or were sitting on MacClaren most of time but for me it worked better than I thought it would. So if Kaley or Melissa ( or even Mayim, 42 years old is yet possible to a woman conceive a child) got pregant, for me it would not be a big deal if they hide it as best as possible and then the plots could run their normal and planned way. And would avoid to include more babies before the end of the show though. Edited April 16, 2018 by spidergirl
chucky Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 (edited) What happened to the good old days when the four nerds would sit in 4A and have discussions about science, comic books and play video games? I know all, except Raj have wives and a finance, but, if the fanfiction writers can write them doing these things while in relationships, why can't this group of show writers not be able to do it? HIMYM did it and your correct it wasn't obvious. With Melissa not being a main character it should have been easy. I will say though while possible it would be more work hiding a Penny pregnancy just because you see more of her and she is, and i'm not trying to mean, skinnier. Cobbie and Allison had much screentime on HIMYM and it worked for their characters as they were evolved into the S4 plotlines imo. Regards Kaley, some of the shirts she has been wearing in show lately would work to hide a pregnancy and it would not ruin her performance on the show imo as long writers were creative to hide it in last months of the pregnancy. Just my opinion though. Edited April 16, 2018 by spidergirl Typos
Jonny Posted April 16, 2018 Posted April 16, 2018 At first I thought they could have hidden Melissa's pregnancy, but then I read some articles about how other shows have managed to do it and the difficulties in doing so and it's not always that easy. Melissa is also very tiny in terms of height and from what I gather that might have made it even harder to hide it (you would think the otherwise but it's actually not the case). I think the writers would have preferred them just having the one child and I strongly suspect if they knew then what they know now you wouldn't have seen two pregnancy storylines for them, the Halley storyline would have happened this season instead. Overall with Melissa being pregnant I think it was probably their only move, I just think it was poorly written and executed that's all in terms of stories that stemmed from it. But if the cast and powers that be aren't fans of kids on the show maybe that is also reflected in the writing? I think there needs to be a sizable episode break before anymore kids on the show, just to move away from that theme for a bit. If we get confirmation of a 13th season then a season break might be enough to develop some new ideas from that topic that are fresh. On HIMYM the bar was one of the main focuses and gave the possibility of many obstructed views. The kitchen Island is the main one on TBBT. Surely if Kaley got pregnant and Penny would just be mother in end of the show, a solution , even not an easy one, would come up. Good point. Jane Leeves was about six feet in height and in her first pregnancy she swelled out everywhere, including her face. The makers of Frasier had planned to have her standing behind furniture etc. but it wasn't going to work. Instead, they invented the story that Daphne was over eating and getting fat. Jane was very uncomfortable in the fat suit she had to wear. For her second pregnancy they wrote Daphne as married and pregnant, given the problems with concealing the first one, but that time the concealment would have worked. It's not easy, especially for American productions because they have to keep to a schedule of coming up with the shows at a certain time of year. And it's not easy anywhere in the world to stop the cast looking older as years go by. If from episode one you've written their characters as hoping to attract mates, there's no plausible way out of marrying them off. After that, when they're all pushing forty and you've written them for years talking about future children, how can you plausibly get out of producing a few ? I see what you mean. You are not the only one who feels that way. It was expected that the show and characters would change and grow after so many years on the air. People are not the same Person they were 11 Years ago. Most Shows that are on for 6+ Seasons changes over time and The Characters change/evolve over too over time whether it be in a good way or bad way. Most Shows cannot stay the same show they were in season 1 (And characters can't be the same as they were in season 1) after 10 seasons and still get great ratings. Characters have to show some growth over time like any real person. change and growth is not always a bad thing I do not think TBBT would have lasted 11 seasons if it stayed stuck in season 1 for this long. I think some characters have changed for the better like Howard while others have gotten wort like Raj. Because now he can talk to women but always puts his foot in his mouth Seinfeld is one of the few shows out there that stayed intact for 9 seasons showing no changes in the show and no character growth. The characters were the same as they were in season 1 (maybe some had changed slightly but pretty much they were the same in season 9 as they were in season 1) But Seinfeld is unique. Any kinds of changes the show made or any kind of real growth for the characters would have ruined it 3 hours ago, Sah said: No more babies please. Even the cast isn't interested in this idea.
