Personally not a huge fan either, though I have seen the original trilogy several times. Funny thing is I am a big fan of their video games set in the same universe, KOTOR 1&2, Jedi Academy, Jedi Knight etc.

That is very cool @Jonny and an example how something can attract followers for many differing reasons.  Just like TBBT!!!  Nicely done, @Jonny !

I have never seen Star Wars, Star Trek and Doctor Who, I gave up on the first page of Harry Potter, and I find superhero movies superboring (I went with friends to Robotricks 2 and The Fantastic Four and played on my phone for most of them) :icon_cheesygrin:

I have watched animated TV shows of Teenage Ninja Turtles and Spiderman as a kid, and was a BIG Pokemon and Digimon fan. I spent a lot of time playing the Pokemon Gameboy games and still have many cards and action figures (also Digimon figures). I also liked other anime shows like Yugiho (don't remember the correct spelling), Sakura and Beyblade. (Also really liked The Powerpuff Girls but was too yoyng to even know what fandom means, about 6 to 9 I think). I played a bit of D&D at 11 or 12, as an organized after school activity. I did not continue after that and did not play at home.

I am very much of an academia nerd, I made the Dean's list (don't know if it means the same everywhere, here it is the top achievers doing BA or MA in the same department)  4 years in a row, the last one (my first for MA) also the Rector's list.

Now with TV shows I geek out easily, when I get into a show I can get REALLY into it. BBT is one of the shows I geek out about the most.

Great post @bfm !  There are so many differing backgrounds for us all and so many differing reasons why we "geek out" (love that term) over TBBT!  Thanks @bfm !!!

I am a huge fan of Star Wars but not of Star Trek. I had even seen a few movies and found quickly  that was not my thing, lol!

Also a fan of comics, mostly Spiderman, Batman and League of Justice. Used to be a fan of comic movies when they were made not just so focused to kids as they are made these days. I follow a comic collection  from Vertigo that I love: "Fables" by Bill Willingham. I have not read all books but I am taking care of it!

And last but not least, Harry Potter was and will be always a huge passion. Love the books ( movies are not so good btw). It was the other fandom  I was very active, I even wrote a few fics. I geeked out easily about it like I do about tbbt: all my friends say when they see or hear something tbbt or HP related, they think of me, LOL!

Gotta admit, I'd assume a show like this would attract an audience that has a first hand experience with most of the geeky/nerdy references they make cause, you know, understanding the jokes makes them funnier. But you do you. Not everything is for everyone, I guess.

I understand you very well.

I usually can't do anything with TV-series and honestly I rarely had the time to do so, Star Trek and Monty Python was/is my biggest exception. I don't like cinema in general and my domestic TV-screen with a functional web-connection is completely enough for me.

I also have never played video games on a console or computer. Nevertheless I call myself a huge computer nerd who has learned to love all kinds of creative applications. But I was a great comic book lover and a great collector of interesting and obscure music.

Anyway, I've been addicted to this damn comedy for a long time now and I got lost in an active fandom for the first time.
That's nerdy enough for me right now, I guess.  :shy:

Nope.  I gave it  a brief  try after Opening Night but couldn't get the hang of what it was about. I hadn't expected it to be a comedy and I gave up after about 15 or 20 minutes.  Two robots landed on a planet or a moon or something and were quarrelling. I was totally lost by then, with no idea who the baddies and goodies were, nor who was on which side. I've downloaded some radio versions but have yet to listen to them properly.

So many people have never seen Star Wars that the BBC has a radio series called 'I've Never Seen Star Wars' in which politicians, sport champions, writers, comedians etc are interviewed and are recorded doing things they've never done before.

Personally, I never been into Comic Books and I don’t play the same types of Video Games The Guys play. I like Grand Theft Auto, Car and Racing Games World War 2 Games.

I have never like Science except Space Science but even that is very mixed. I did not do well in Science in School it was too hard for to understand and is still hard for me to understand or get  a lot of it.  I have never understood half what The Guys were talking about when it comes to Science and Math but The Show has been a good learning experience at times.

I have never been part of the Nerd/Geeky Culture or into it like The Guys are. was not one in school either.  I never heard of most the People mention in this Show until I watch it. Some I had no idea who they were.  A lot of the Science References I have never  gotten or other References to TV Shows and Movies they like.

I never read any of the books The Guys have read (or like the same kind of books) or Watch (or like)  any of The Movies or TV Shows the Guys like or watch except for Back to The Future and Star Wars.

Needless to say I don’t have the same interest as The Guys or like the same thing they do. I am not interested in the same things like Science and Comic Books. I like History and Genealogy.  I not loke the Guys in that way I don’t have same Hobbies

I got a very different taste in TV and Movies from the Guys. I watch or like Shows like I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Leave It to Beaver, Perry Mason, The Andy Griffith Show, Hazel,  The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, All In The Family, The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son, Good Times, Maude, The Waltons, M*A*S*H, Little House On The Prairie, Happy Days, Three’s Company, Cheers, Growing Pains, Roseanne, Seinfeld, Fresh Prince, Frasier, Friends, Raymond, 30 Rock, etc,.

I sure none of The Guys have ever watch any of those Shows. I guess maybe I a little nerdy because I was born in the last 30 Years but I much prefer or like TV Shows, Movies and Music from the 50s-80s much better then most of The TV Shows, Music and Movies we have now.  I much rather listen to Johnny Cash and The Battles then anything we have now. TV Shows and Movies were a lot better 20-40 Years ago.

What can I say I just like the oldies and classics.  They are a lot better then most of what is considered entertaining today.

I guess I relate to Penny more or am more like her then all  The Guys because as with Penny I like, listen and watch mostly mainstream stuff. I get all the reference she make to TV Shows and Entertainers like The Brady Bunch and The Kardashians even though I don’t watch them or like them. I know (mostly) who all the people are that she mention and a the Shows she mentions. I always know what she talking about or Referencing to

I do like English History and Literature like Amy.

I also love Western History, Films and Western TV Shows.  Of course it is Integrated into My State History and Culture  I couldn’t imagine any of the Guys watching anything Western (not even Sheldon where Texas has a strong western culture and History) but I could see maybe Penny depending on what show movie and if it has lot of Romance. I like historical ans war films they are my favorite

What drew me to TBBT is that it is a Funny good  well-rounded decently written show  with (mostly like able) Characters. Unlike on shows in the past The Nerds on on This Show are are likable. Leonard I never really thought of as a Nerd.

I was expecting Tom Baker when I read about the tweet.

Tom Baker hardly travels at all anymore. He's been offered big bucks for some cons in the states over the last five years and turned them all down saying he's not up to it

Wil Wheaton is not a mutual friend.

But Will and Sheldon did make up when Will had Amy on his TV show.

All those people for Sheldon on one side and Amy side having her mother and her mute father.

The guy can speak. He just chooses not to generally during performances. I think it would be interesting if he did here. He's a well known atheist. It would be interesting if they played up that a bit.

I have watched all six Star Wars movies. 4, 5, and 6 (original 3) are the best for me. Of the six, The Phantom Menace (1), I could do without. I didn't care for it, but I guess it was needed to inform how everything started. As for Star Trek, I liked The Wrath of Kahn best. Followed by the one where they went back in time for the whales to save the Earth. The others, ehhh, didn't really like too much.

Tom Baker is not as well known here either. Most people of all ages know Star Wars and Luke Skywalker

Wil is still Sheldon’s friend and only knows Amy because of Sheldon

i realize Teller can speak. With the amount of guests there having I’m guessing he’s not talking. Him being atheist would make it interesting though with Mary.

The original Doctor on Doctor Who.

I'm really loving these little insights into some of us here!  @MTBigBangTheoryFan , your story just goes to show what "big tent" this fandom is.  That there are all sorts of us who enjoy the show is a pretty amazing thing!!!!  Nicely said @MTBigBangTheoryFan !

The only Star Trek movie I've seen in its entirety is the first.  More a fan of Star Wars.  The thing about the "prequels" in the Star Wars franchise that I enjoy the most are the performances of Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman.  The rest? Eh.....As far as the original trilogy is concerned.  I find that they are not aging as well as I would hope.  The dialogue especially is lacking when compared to The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.  I'm one of those who are enthusiastic for the "new" things.  Enjoyed Rogue One and am looking forward to Solo.  I am really hoping for an Obi-Wan Kenobi stand-alone film with Mr. McGregor!!!!
