The only Star Trek movie I've seen in its entirety is the first.  More a fan of Star Wars.  The thing about the "prequels" in the Star Wars franchise that I enjoy the most are the performances of Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman.  The rest? Eh.....As far as the original trilogy is concerned.  I find that they are not aging as well as I would hope.  The dialogue especially is lacking when compared to The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.  I'm one of those who are enthusiastic for the "new" things.  Enjoyed Rogue One and am looking forward to Solo.  I am really hoping for an Obi-Wan Kenobi stand-alone film with Mr. McGregor!!!!

I can only agree with you @hokie3457 ,I really liked the performances of Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman in the Star Wars franchise. I have hardly seen any of the Star Trek movies to be honest, as you I'm more of a Star Wars fan.

The reason I started to watch Tbbt is because of Kaley, I saw her in 8 simple rules and has followed her work ever since.

I'm really loving these little insights into some of us here!  @MTBigBangTheoryFan , your story just goes to show what "big tent" this fandom is.  That there are all sorts of us who enjoy the show is a pretty amazing thing!!!!  Nicely said @MTBigBangTheoryFan !

One of the reasons I was drawn to the show is because I have 2 sons in their 40's and so  I understood what the guys were into. Growing up they liked and did so many of the same  things the guys like and do. I probably only know the difference between Star wars and Star Trek because of my kids (sorry JE7!) They loved comics, collectibles, super heroes, D&D, video games, Renaissance Fairs and still do. They'll watch an episode with me now and again but ironically, they are not big fans of the show.

I never saw 8 Simple Rules, but heard of it, mostly because it featured John Ritter and James Garner.  I was aware that there was a young female cast member who was blonde, but that is about all I can recall about Kaley pre TBBT days.  My daughter was also a big fan of Charmed, which I would watch occasionally.  I never saw Kaley in that show either, but I understand she was only in the final season, which again, I never have seen....

In my earlier post I wanted to share why I was drawn to the tbbt show and I forgot, sorry... * too much painkillers lately lol*

So some friends and colleagues who watched the show used to tell me I must have watched it because it had lots of things I love: Science as I work in a lab, nerds and geeks as I am a comic lover and I follow some stuff from pop culture. In that time I followed too many tv shows so I avoided to add a new one. When I finally decided to give it a try I found how silly I had been for didnt start to watch it earlier. I saw 8 seasons in a row ( obssessely( sp?) in my free time after work, lol) and got to this fandom in beginning of s9. Here in forum, by the hiatus before s10.

I've seen both shows mostly thru reruns.I saw Kaley in both and thought she was very good there as well. The very first episode of TBBT that I saw was the episode where Leonard got the trip to Switzerland and Sheldon was upset because Leonard was going to take Penny. From there, I was hooked.

Very first episode I ever saw of TBBT was actually the pilot when it aired for the very first time ever on NZ TV. I was their for history lol. It was in 2008 November. I had just came ova from Studying. I Thought it was cute. And of course I recognised Kaley from 8 Simple Rules. I remember saying Hey Bridget!:icon_cheesygrin:. Watched till the end and thought this could be the new Friends if given a chance. But did not expect it to go anywhere, how many new upstart shows do these days. And with what the writers strike around that same time. I did not watch the show for another two years (Was busy). Then caught a S3 episode. Huh good on them they are still going.  I remember it was The Pants Alternative. Had not laughed so hard at a show since Seinfeld. It was really Leonard and Pennys relationship that drew me in. Being a guy, I could really relate to the nerdy guy and the Hot Girl.

Anyway taping today, hoping for something good.

Teller, Bates and Hamill's roles have not yet been divulged.

I'm not sure the guy who is known by millions and millions as  Luke Skywalker could possibly play Amy's father. Not only that. He is beloved by the goys as Luke Skywalker. Unless some other guests are going to be announced Teller is the father and Kathy Bates is the mother. The only real mystery is what Mark Hamill/Luke Skywalker role will be in the show.

The bad part was that both Penny and Sheldon got sick and couldn't go. Leonard took Raj. Leonard, my man, what were you thinking? You should have taken Howard over Raj. :sarcastichand:

Someone at Mayim's speaking event in Florida earlier in the week said that Mayim confirmed that Amy's parents would be at the wedding. I think there is a strong assumption that the castings for those roles are in the latest press release.

With what roles they are going to play not confirmed I guess it's still possible someone else may be playing those roles. I think's its unlikely though. I think it's going to be those actors.

Is anyone upset that Beverly isn't going to be there? She should have been there instead of Bert or Will. The chemistry between Mary and Beverly was awesome. I was ready for Bev vs Mary round three. :icon_cheesygrin:

Could be a scheduling issue with Christine Baranski or they are saving a few last minute surprises, like they are with the undisclosed roles for some of the guest stars.

Who is Tom Baker? I have never heard of him...

He played Doctor Who longer than anyone else. 1974-81. He was best known in the states for playing Rasputin in Nicholas and Alexandra before that.

The Fourth Doctor.

YES! Definitely not the original. My favorites were the 2nd and 3rd actually.

Yes. Tom Baker played the fourth incarnation of The Doctor in the  Doctor Who TV series. (On radio and commercial audio they don't have different incarnations. Tom Baker was still playing him the last I heard. ) He's the one Sheldon dressed up as when Amy bought a TARDIS to lure him into her bedroom so I assumed Tom Baker was Sheldon's favourite Doctor.  I remember Stuart dressed as him at the Comic Center for a party.

I saw the first episode of Dr Who in 1963. Whether I saw it the first time, the weekend President Kennedy was shot, or the repeat the following weekend, or both, I can't now recall. I used to watch the first two Doctors at my godparents' house at Saturday teatime when I was babysitting. The episodes were 25 to 30 minutes long and aimed at children. The early series had two teachers in it. :)

Since the beginning, the stories have usually been spread over roughly one to four episodes, so for someone tuning in and not liking it, just leave it for a couple of weeks and come back. I used to watch only the stories I liked. In the early to mid 1980s. especially, some of them got a bit too sciencey-technical for me to follow and I'd switch off. This would be around the time Leonard and Sheldon were first seeing them, I suppose. Tom Baker was before their time. Theirs would be Colin Baker or Peter Davidson IIRC. The third and  fourth Doctors' companion was Sarah Jane Smith played by Elisabeth Sladen. When in a David Tennant episode, School Reunion, she and K9 came back, tears were pouring down my face. There had been no pre-publicity so it was a great surprise. I was a fan of The Sarah Jane Adventures on TV, audio and radio until Elisabeth Sladen died. That knocked Tom Baker for six at the time. They were taping a new story.

Thank you. A fun fact from Dr Who and spinoffs is that Nicholas Courtney who played Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stuart ( aka 'The Brigadier') holds - or rather held at the time of his death -  the world record for the longest time playing the same character. He also played it in  every entertainment genre : TV, radio, film, stage and commercial audio. I last remember him in Sarah Jane but whether he was ever in Torchwood I can't recall offhand. I'm afraid the different series are blending into one in my memory now. I was quite the geek about such things at one time. The Brig was 'retired' of course in his last few appearances. The closest we've seen on TBBT to his character's work was  that we saw of Colonel Williams'.

Thank you. Do you think he'll come as himself or play a part ?

I don't know.  The idea that he could come on as a Luke force ghost was just wild speculation on my part.

I'm often really disappointed when they have actors play themselves but enjoyed much of what they had James Earl Jones do. Bill P. told us to expect to have our heads blown so I am cautiously optimistic that what ever they do it will be worthy of the guest. Mark Hamill comes across as a big fanboy himself although perhaps somewhat disappointed with what they have had Luke do lately. If he plays himself one wonders why he would be there? It is a wedding not comic con.
