With all due respect, Ms. O'Donnell was on air for under a minute and really had no chance to "play" Amy's mother.

I hate it when they switch actors.

I didn't like it when they did it in Goodnight Sweetheart, or As Time Goes By, and I don't like it now.

I don't recall any guest stars in a season finale before.

I would say Judd Hirst (SP) would be considered a named guest. He is an accomplished actor in his own right. He was in 9/24 and 10/1 as Leonard's father.

You quoted it before I corrected it.

Frankly having Mark Hamill in the season final that includes the wedding of Sheldon and Amy seems particularly inspired given the arc of the "The Opening Night Excitation" and all the PP ghost episodes. Add having another Stand by Me star in addition to Wil seems also inspired.

In season 3 ep 23 Mayim Bialik was a guest star.

Well spotted. 🙂

Maybe they could complete the Star Wars theme, by also getting Harrison Ford and/or Billy-Dee-Williams?

I think you are giving TPTB too much credit for the arc. It seems to me more like a coincidence. Inspiration has left the show awhile ago. Now if you put togethera picture of the writing staff with Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey (Harry and Lloyd) that I could believe.

I doubt they will ever get Harrison Ford. Mark on the other hand seems like a fan in addition to being Luke Skywalker and the voice of the Joker. He was the central figure in the original trilogy and made a come back in The Last Jedi.  Having him in the season 11 final is more than I ever really hoped for.

As far as completing the Star Wars theme I kind of expect Mark's appearance does that for TBBT. It seems Star Wars will outlive TBBT.

Well, I heard my friends really got in a mess
So I'm gonna have to leave Yoda I guess
But I know that I'll be coming back some day
I'll be playing this part 'till I'm old and gray

The long-term contract I had to sign
Says I'll be making these movies till the end of time
With my Yoda

Dunno if Opening Night played a part or not in their decision making, maybe it just turned out to be a nice coincidence lol. I suspect it didn't because Hamill will have been very high up on their guest star list (probably no.1) for a long time. Star Wars is very ingrained in this series.

 A little serendipity in addition to some inspiration perhaps.

Yeah Star Wars and Star Trek. I'd love to see William Shatner (Capt. Kirk), guest star one time next year. The guys could go gaga over him and maybe they all get restraining orders against them. :shy:

Opening Night was December 17. Force Awakens December 18. There was no way of them knowing at the time if there was a wedding and Hamill availability  2.5 years later.

I meant the writers knowing Star Wars played a big part in that Shamy story in Opening Night so as they were coming up with ideas and writing the Shamy wedding this season they they decided to get Hamill to play a big part at their wedding. So Star Wars involved in some way in both big events. Isn't that what people speculating on this thread or have I misread that lol?

I actually don't think that crossed their mind, though I don't know their thought process. Unless of course one of the powers that be says in an interview, "Yeah we wanted a Star Wars theme again just like in Opening Night".

Bill said his mind was blown which indicates it was a surprise. Still it seems to me they made good use of a possible opportunity.

it seems though that the writers have forgotten what was said during this season. If I recall correctly the groom said something like tell me when the wedding is I will be there you handle the rest. So the Star Wars theme is for the benefit of the bride.?

Yeah I don't think Opening Night had anything to do with Mark Hamill officiating preecedings. He was available and made sense with who he is, and is connection to geek culture. Coincidence I think.
