Yes, even in a cheap Vegas wedding you have to tell your name to the officiant.

Not to bring to much reality into this but Most evangelical Christian churches are not particularly strong against divorce  for the cheated on spouse - and certainly for a deserted spouse.

 

As far as Penny’s maiden name

goes, they have pretty much played it that all the characters either know her last name  or are oblivious to the fact they don’t.

I don't really think the writers or TPTB are concerned about Penny's maiden name. She's now Penelope Hofstadter and that's good enough for them. She finally has a last name.

I think they are. You can send someone mail without knowing an apartment # with a name and address. But as has been pointed out, Leonard has seen her mail, and if he has I'll bet Sheldon has, too.

....I’m of the belief that EVERYONE in TBBT world knows what Penny’s maiden name is. It is only us in the “real world” who do not have this information. At some point I think TPTB decided to be clever. Over 2 years since she’s been married and here we are still talking about it. To paraphrase Kaley Cuoco: she said she hoped one day that Penny’s last name would be Hofstadter and that is what it is and it’s good enough for me.

She also said when they asked her again at comic-con that she is Penny Hofstadter and it will be that forever

True. Mary is keen on Jesus and Jesus explicitly said adultery was grounds for divorce. Some churches allow remarriage for the innocent party.

Or Sheldon could have said a "girlfriend" instead of a "mistress" (I think I am using the right word) because "girlfriend" is not as stronger word as "mistress" is what is sin related ? Maybe Mary knew George cheated on her and she behaved like she was in denial for religion reasons ? Imo tbbt had been a bit ambiguous about Mary and George marriage as sometimes it seemed they lived together although the marriage issues and other seemed they might have lived separated but no divorced. Maybe one day YS give us more details though.

lol the one thing that can't be misinterpreted is his father in bed with another woman and being a cheat.

Either that will be shown on the other show i.e George's infidelity (probably not catching them 'in flagrante delicto' because it's obviously a family show) or and I think this is more likely they will end the show before they have to show that part of the backstory in the timeline.
