Do you mean Wallace Shawn in anything or in Young Sheldon?

I think this was the third YS episode he was in.

He had a significant role in  Princess Bride. This movie has been referenced in tbbt (the move - not his specific character).

 

Sometimes Sheldon is mostly a buzz in the background of YS. It seemed that way in 1.22.

Hi guys, I’d like to say hello to the YS community! For my love of the character of Sheldon and Jim Parsons as an actor, I have recently started and finished watching YS. I must say that I love the show dearly for various reasons. I will elaborate on that over the next couple of weeks 😊

For those of you who don’t know, Wallace Shawn has played the famous Grand Nagus Zek (Zekkie) in Star Trek Deep Space 9 (among other roles of course) and was hilariously funny (in my opinion). The poor guy had to wear a lot of prosthetics for being a Ferengi so I think that is why he is probably not easily recognised. Great actor and great to see him again! 😊

I meant I'd never seen Wallace Shawn in anything before he appeared in YS. What I didn't like was Sheldon's sneakiness and interference. We know as a grown-up he was prepared to manipulate other people's relationships for his own ends, but seeing that sort of behaviour coming from a child horrified me. I like the way the whole nuclear family and its friends and neighbours is developing irrespective of Sheldon.

Sometimes Sheldon's behaviour is that of  a person, nice or otherwise, nothing to do with being gifted.

Some of the most underhanded, sneaky people I've known have been children of below average IQ who managed to channel what intelligence they had into being sly, cunning individuals who got away with it because nobody suspected them of being capable.They can be every bit as successful at stirring up trouble as the bright ones if they try.

Well, Sheldon is a child after all and we know he has had behavioural difficulties throughout his life.

This episode no doubt explains his love for rules and is probably the foundation of his later obsession with contracts. I believe in Sheldon’s world a relationship contract makes sense so that everyone knows how to behave as laid out. We know from TBBT that Sheldon cannot sense what is going on in certain social situations so I guess a “rule set” functions as a guideline mainly for him - not for the others. 

I like this episode a lot. It’s nice to see that the show does not only focus on Sheldon alone. The character development of Meemaw is great and her two gentleman callers (which is such a sweet expression which Sheldon also uses for Amy’s suiters in “The Platonic Permutation” of TBBT) and their interaction are very funny.

The reverse mother / daughter conversation between Connie and Mary about dating two men (or more 😉) simultaneously is also very amusing. 

Missy's dry comments like “did you just join this family?” are hilarious as always .

The continous religious lines, comments or references in all of the YS episodes make me both laugh and think all the time. They are beautifully written. Thanks!

I don’t need YS or TBBT to always be a comedy just because it’s the genre. If the story develops into something more serious and meaningful from time to time and is still engaging then I am all in. Kind of glued to the television and sad when the short 20 minutes are over in no time.

In this episode it is the moment we feel when Connie explains how lonely life was after her husband died. And it is another reference to religion or a question to the universe with “will I be alone in the end?”. A question we are all asking ourselves from time to time. 

Sheldon mentioning his wife and children in the end really made my heart pound in my chest 😍 I loved hearing about it, as I think that we may never see the development of his family on TBBT. It makes my little world feel complete, knowing that he will live a happy life. I felt eternity. Thanks!

I agree with you except for the part that he does try to dictate others' actions. The problem is he doesn't do that only to the extent that will lessen his confusion and distress but also in a way that benefits him while being unfair to others. Adult Sheldon had shown that he is aware of this. 

Additionally, others going with his rules all the time is ultimately to his detriment, as in this way he doesn't deal with his challenges. When Amy refused his bathroom scheduele, for example, he learned to do without it.

Well, as smart as he is he later develops a cunning and somewhat sly personae. We can see the early stages of it already in YS and the full bloom of it in TBBT until Amy comes along. She is the first person to really understand him and who is willing to take it up with him. She very slowly opens him up but it takes her a lot of nerves. I like the fact that Sheldon realises this and tries to change for her.

This could just be me, but does anybody see any similarities between meemaw and Penny? I’m thinking of meemaw’s personality and the way in which she interacts and deals with Sheldon. Also in regard to her now dating Dr Sturgis.
