I agree all the families have issues. It is a comedy. That said I consider Sheldon's family more normal then Leonard's.

That would be great too. Keep it all in the family  what I like about my surpise is that they get a kid without a repeat of pregnancy storylines.

Yeah, but the really amusing detail is Mary's reaction to Leonard and Penny adopting her grandchild. Especially with their views on religion being almost the same as her Sheldon. 😊

I don't thing religious people are necessarily against giving up a child for adoption.  Especially if it means a better life or more stability with another family. There are worse things you can do if you are pregnant with a child you can't care for. Also, would Mary really have any say? Missy seems like she can hold her own...

Agreed. I have never heard of any religion that's against adoption. On this side of the pond the Church of England, The Roman Catholic Church, The Methodists and The Salvation Army are all actively involved in arranging adoptions. My Sikh neighbours adopted a child whose Hindu next of kin thought adoption was the best thing after the death of both the child's original  parents

I agree with everyone who has pointed out that this one doesn't work. Although I am dying to see how YS handles the father cheating. They've made him quite sweet from what I've seen of him, although dimwitted.

He's a teacher. His main subject seems to be American football so perhaps he got hit on the head a lot over the years.

He pretends from time to time to be ignorant of something so Sheldon can explain. Adult Sheldon's narration over the incident when they were staring out at the storm says he realised that much later. 

If George is going to turn to drink later and become unfaithful, Mary might out of her anger towards him sully his memory by saying he was dim and stupid. His idiotic behaviour in shooting the television and her china, fighting a cactus and stealing from an employer ( presumably after losing his job at the high school ) will bear her out.  They need to come up with something like that to retcon with TBBT. ( A word I learned last week, I hope it's appropriate.) 

I'm reminded of a response of Mary II of England and Scotland when asked what she thought of the reputation of her own two namesakes, 'When princes do ill things, future generations must needs get at their memories since they cannot reach their persons.'

I have no problem with Sheldon saying his father was stupid because Sheldon also describe academics as stupid. 

Maybe it could work if Mary was referring to his drunk behavior, although this was clearly not the original intention.

Probably. He seems to be a gym (physical education teacher) who coaches the football team. You don't get paid just to teach football, although a lot of men would love such a job. Teachers usually take on extracurricular activities for extra money.

Interesting. Teachers are not paid for extra-curricular activities over here. Out of school hours work is voluntary but it's generally considered just part of what teachers do. In fact there were no defined hours for teachers until the eighties when the government wanted to give teachers a pay rise.  At a school where I was a governor one of the teachers taught Football, Latin and Woodwork. At college for a B.Ed you have to study  a main plus one or two subsidiary subjects and take faculty courses in addition to Education.  Young Sheldon doesn't seem to hold teachers in any awe (not like we did, ahem ) as educated beings. They are his equals at best. He's polite enough most of the time but even as an adult he has a tendency to say anyone who is not a theoretical physicsist is a few rungs below. This included even Amy from time to time until recently. I wonder how he's going to regard his children's teachers if he sends them to school ?

I didn't say that clearly enough. Some teachers sponsor clubs and don't get paid. My daughter asked her film teacher to sponsor the anime club and she didn't get paid for it. But they were just using her room to talk while she graded papers, etc. But a football coach is a huge job here that involves a ton of time.

Any teacher who coaches a subject in which there's a team that represents the school would be expected to go with them to matches and to rehearse them at lunchtimes, after school and perhaps weekends.  The music teacher would do the same for the choir and orchestra, a PE teacher for the country dance team, a drama and/or Eng Lit teacher for plays and festivals etc. It's just what's expected. Teaching requires a heavy time commitment. A concession that used to be made and possibly still is, was that if a teacher was running a club, coaching a team, taking choir practice etc during meal breaks, the teacher didn't have to pay for his/her meal. It's probably where the saying, 'There's no such thing as a free lunch' comes from.
