It's gonna depend.  I would have no problem riding out a Cat 4.   But, then, I'm at 40 feet of elevation and about 3 miles from the nearest shoreline, so I'm not in an evacuation zone, as far as flooding goes (My mortgage company doesn't even require me to have flood insurance, though I do).   As for the winds,  I have a concrete block house, my windows and doors (including the garage door) are Miami-Dade rated (they'll survive a 2 x 4, traveling at 145 mph, yes my windows will survive that), and I've cut back any and all trees that may fall onto the house and I have a new roof. The problem last year was the wind  took advantage of some insect damage, to rip half  the roof over the den off, all that (wind, insect) has been repaired,

As for afterward, I have two generators with 20 gallons of gas that would keep my fridge (and computer and phone)going for a couple of weeks, and enough propane to cook with for just as long.

I applaud what you did but I don't think everyone else has done what you did. I didn't get the impression from the guy I saw on the news that he was the sharpest tack in the tool box. Personally I have a whole house generator because I lose power so often. I don't know if those are common on the east coast.

Well, well, well! Here we go again. Another storm headed for the gulf of Mexico headed toward anywhere between Mississippi and the other side of Tallahassee with apparently Pensacola right dead center, give or take a hundred miles or so. Predicted to be a hurricane by Wednesday. right now it's over the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico.

Lots of storms recently... Stay safe.

I don't think it'll be worse than a Cat 1 storm.

Apparently I'm wrong on the Cat size of Michael. Right now he's just short of a hurricane at 70 MPH winds. 74 MPH winds are needed to be a hurricane. He's forecasted to be a Cat 2 with over 110 MPH winds!

I  should be fine, South of Tampa, Carlos should also be fine, other's on the east coast will also be fine.   chucky may have a problem, but on the bright side he's scheduled to be on the left, and weaker, side of the storm.

Upgraded to a cat 3 by landfall.

Yeah, kinda scarey. So short of time to prepare!

Stay safe you guys

Well, as for now I'll be in the weak side of the storm. We still expect high winds and heavy rain. We'll get The Tropical Storm force winds, which could be from around 50 to 73 MPH winds. Quite formidable still.

I so hope everyone stays safe. I'm ready to smack my son in law, though. He's telling the grandchildren there will be no Disney to go to after the storm. We are taking them for their first trip there at the end of the month.

That's right up there with telling kids there is no Santa Claus or Tooth Fairy.  :hi:

Wow, I take my daughter to work. when I get back saw that Michael winds went from 110 MPH to 120 MPH and expected to increase. I'm thankful I'm on the west side of this monster!

We’re starting to get rain and winds(about 25 MPH) here in Sarasota.

Just got the 2 AM (EST   1 AM Central), update.  Winds at 130 MPH, cat 4.   Depending on where it makes landfall, you may only, (Yeah, only) get Tropical storm force winds.  Take care buddy.

Will do what we can. Now 145 MPH winds and could still get stronger. The Weather Channel says it's possible to become a Cat 5 Hurricane. That's insane!

Wow, this is almost unheard of, 50 miles from Panama City and getting stronger. 150 MPH winds. Still a Cat 4 although a very strong and freaky Cat 4!
