KripkeRules Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 The new interview is very interesting to me. Link: https://www.glamour.com/story/big-bang-theory-spin-off Thank you, @vonmar for post it!!! Quote: 【And what about Amy? Will things be different now that she and Sheldon have married? SH: A little bit, but not in a big way. They’ve lived together before, but there are some differences. It's not just Sheldon navigating married life, but Amy as well. She's figuring out how to keep her identity as an individual and a scientist when she’s a part of this couple.】 I wonder what this is about. Looks like something work-related to Amy and something about their joined project. YES!!! Thank you, writers. This reminds me of 11X01, Sheldon was rude to Amy's co-workers, but their talk after that was so great and heartwarming. Even the analogy with the Captain America and Iron Man was so spot on. Maybe this will be Amy's turn? Not the rude part, but maybe something happens, and Amy has to figure out her indertity or something. I'm very curious and excited to see this!!! Quote: 【Is she keeping her last name? SH: She is keeping her last name. We haven’t said it, but in the episode where they went to the chapel, she made the comment that she was going to keep her last name.】 Ha, I thought so. It's very cool to see Amy keeping the "Dr. Fowler" title. That being said, I don't mind some other people referring Amy as "Mrs. Cooper". That would put a big smile on my face. Ha. Quote: 【How do Amy's parents factor into the premiere? SH: They come back when Amy and Sheldon are away on their honeymoon, so they become Penny and Leonard’s problem to deal with. And they’ll be back again this season. One of the fun things about Sheldon and Amy being married is that Sheldon has this extended family he hasn’t had before. Jerry O’Connell will be back too, in episode four. And obviously, especially now that it’s the last season, there’s a list of people important to the show that we want to make sure to have back on.】 Sheldon's brother will be back!!! Yes!!! Nice to see more interaction between him and Shamy. LOL. Oh, and this: [there’s a list of people important to the show that we want to make sure to have back on.] So on board with this, please do. I think Kripke will definitely be back, so bring it on, hahaha.

It will be very fun to see Sheldon interacting with the Fowlers, but I hope this is used also to highlight how their unhappy marriage has impacted Amy. I'm a bit torn about the plot of Amy struggling with her new life as a scientist and as a wife. I hope this is used, as you said, to finally have a situation where Sheldon is the supportive one and helps her finding her way to keep her individuality. TBH, though, I didn't like very much how the writers handled similar difficulties for Sheldon in the early episodes in S. 11, so now I have mixed feelings about this plot...Let's see. Last but not least, Dr. Fowler and Dr. Cooper sounds really nice, I'm very happy Amy has kept her last name!!! joyceraye Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 I don't see why Amy should have struggles with her identity as a scientist and a wife. Bernadette didn't and she had barely two years compared with Amy's perhaps twelve to fifteen to establish herself before getting married. Amy's career was going strong when Bernie was still waiting on tables to support herself during her PhD.

Maybe ppl suddenly start calling her "Mrs Cooper" and thus are both omitting her academic title and actual name? For an academically inclined woman like Amy it could be quite an issue cause she worked hard for that name recognition in her field. I suppose it would depend on the context whether Amy minded or not. In her world she's highly respected and they know who she is. They wouldn't change the way they addressed her anyway. Perhaps outside that sphere it could be an issue after the novelty wore off. I grew up knowing one of the greatest scientists in history as Madame Curie, however. I quite liked what they did with Bernie's situation, so I'm curious about what they are gonna do with Amy. Over the years, I've always liked Amy's work progress, seeing her in her lab coat working something in her lab has been a delight. Not to mention all those times that Sheldon was in her lab working or talking or playing or experimenting with her. Or, like this: I've been wanting to see Shamy go to some seminar, both attending and making a speech or whatnot. Maybe this plot is something like Amy goes to a seminar to receive a prize or something, but people are gushing over the fact that she is married to THE Dr. Cooper. She would feel being sidelined, but Sheldon would help her figuring out this. Hence the "figure out her identity" thing. Cliche...I know, I'm just guessing here...LOL. PS: I'll admit that I just want to see them attending the seminar SO BAD, because I really LOVE the Herb Garden episode and the Love Car episode, so I just made my own headcanon...LOL. The difference between Bernie and Amy is that Bernie works in the private sector while Amy works in academia where name recognition is her bread and butter and even small name changes are a major pain in the ass. Due to that I was always in favour of her keeping her name cause it's more realistic for a female scientist at this point in her career. And while I can see the point some ppl make in terms of wanting her to use Sheldon's name somehow for some romantic reason I have to say I just looooove the Amy that is butting heads with him over science and I think it would be fitting to let the name reflect that. If she does it is as a Zanagen worker. She does not have to care about making herself a name out there. As for Amy finding her identity... I don't know. Maybe there's pressure from Sheldon and/or others for them to work together, but she has other projects she wants to work on.

Absolutely. In some professions nowadays, regardless of one's sex it's important to be known by the same name throughout one's career. Beverly's surname, judged by the ages of her children and when she was sixty, seems to have been Hofstadter before she had any letters to put after it. Lady Lovelace probably wouldn't have wanted to dwell on her maiden name anyway, My old doctor, when she wanted peace and a private life away from work, went by her married name. Her husband was Polish to boot which meant nobody knew how to spell it and so strangers couldn't look her up in the telephone directory. I'm looking forward to a few amusing facial expressions when some organisation or other puts on a bit of do at which Amy's being given an award and the waiters call Sheldon 'Mr Fowler'. Jonny Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Hyped for a new season but sad this will be the final time we do this for a premiere. Hoping we get a great season that gives our favourite couple (and they are well and truly beloved characters) the send-off they deserve. Hoping we get a great season that gives our favourite couple (and they are well and truly beloved characters) the send-off they deserve. The interview I posted has a lot of interesting parts about Shamy. We already know there'll be a couple of great episodes at very the beginning of the season, which is great. Holland also mentioned a fight, the first Shamy marital fight, as a pretense for them to have PP back in 12.5. It is the plot he had mentioned before about Amy struggling to find her identity, as she and Sheldon now work together as a married couple. Not my favourite kind of plot, but we'll see PP again and, big fights call for big make ups, so....Also, and this is was very interesting to me, Holland hasn't completely ruled out for Shamy to go for other milestones, like a house or a baby. Not that I want a pregnancy plot for Shamy (sorry for the persons in this thread who wants it, that's my opinion...) but it seems to me they want to continue the progresses for our couple. I guess it might also have something to do with a possible spin off, which obviously won't include Sheldon and hence, most likely, Amy. I would love if the show ends with a wonderful Shamy send-off! April Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 Thank you for the interview, @mirs1!! This part where he's elaborating on the Amy plot... Quote Sheldon and Amy working together and being married is going to be a thing that plays out throughout the season. It's easy to focus on Sheldon and how he adapts to marriage, but I also think it's interesting how Amy adapts to it because she is also a strong, independent scientist and now she's going to have to wrestle with how she maintains that identity now that she's part of this couple, especially when they're also working together. That's an interesting story you haven’t seen told that much. ...sounds so good!! Focussing on Amy for a bit was long overdue! ❤️ Happy last premier day, everyone!! Can't wait to see what this season has in store for us!!
spidergirl Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 That's a very interisting interview what is concerned our Shamy. Thanks for that, @mirs1! And I know what you mean about the fight plot but I can see it happening because it is a real challenge to a couple working together, especially among scientists who tends to take care of some work at home. At this point I think we will see really the best of Sheldon and Amy, even in litle things that could lead them to domestic or professional fights. It has been very interisting to watch both growing up emotionally as both bonded and involved more individually and as a couple. I believe the writers may show us a few Shamy milestones more, beyond babies and a new house, that eventually they would go there. It is the last season and our couple finally built their own world, personally I hope we can see as much as possible. Even a few glimpses from their future Btw, happy premiere night! So much Shamy to our delight, that almost adorable snuggling included! * happy sigh* And last but not least...Sheldon says really meaningfull things to Amy now: one of Spidergirl's Favourite Shamy dreams that came true. Oh boy! ❤
Jonny Posted September 24, 2018 Posted September 24, 2018 (edited) I have a few immediate reservations about the so-called fight plot: - I think the show for the most part doesn't do these plots well especially involving Sheldon. I think the show for maximum comedy and outrageousness has Sheldon go over the top even react in a really silly way to situations like this. It's usually a 'Sheldon is still Sheldon' reminder kind of story, which I don't necessarily need to be reminded of. - The plot has been cooked up for a Guest Star presumably to solve, I think the show has had success and failure with this approach. Obviously Proton being around for Opening Night was a plus, but I thought his involvement in the most recent one (involving WW getting the PP role) was weak from a storytelling perspective. - It might be (perhaps an unfair expectation) that I think Sheldon by now should be able to deal with these type of situations better. Especially when over the years he hasn't supported her only to come around at the end sometimes forced sometimes he comes to the conclusion himself, last season's opener I think he absolutely should have learned from. The plot screams another old school Sheldon to me. Most are these are on the assumption that Sheldon reacts badly to these situations which 99% of the time it is Sheldon, but maybe he doesn't and it's Amy who goes too far for a change perhaps lashing out? That would be refreshing, though Amy doesn't see Proton Sheldon does (which strongly hints he has to change his viewpoint or his behaviour to something) so maybe expectations need to be low for that kind of storytelling twist. Anyway I will see how it plays out and like @mirs1 said there will be some kind of makeup that involves a sweet moment. All IMO.
