It's  general thing unless there's a quarrel.

Maybe in the "old country"; not so much on this side of the Atlantic. Certainly not in my experience. Here the population is very mobile and distances are vast.

We haven't seen them hang out with the gang in any capacity (remember: until recently we didn't even know Amy had a dad!) so it's curious that they apparently start bugging them for some reason all of a sudden while Shamy are away on their honeymoon, no less.

To be fair we don't know that they are bugging them.

We’ll be trying to get tickets for Sep 18th, that’s the fourth show/taping 😊

I am still hoping that they’ll wrap up the wedding and show us some parts of the honeymoon.

Given the fact that we’ll get to see two TBBT shows in premiere week this seems likely. We know that Holland didn’t give too much content away at CC but I personally think that the “special” episode they’ll be showing in premiere week will be about the wedding. Well I shall personally hope so 😊

Which wound mean that the second episode will be about the honeymoon. What do you guys think?

I'd like to see the scenes from 11.24 that weren't televised. A few million people around the world won't know about them otherwise. I'd like to know whether Missy stays around to be near Raj. I'd like to see where they go for their honeymoon, but it might be a few scenes shown in flashback when they're home. It would be nice for Leonard and Penny to have a proper honeymoon too, now they are free of Sheldon, then they could all compare notes. It would be funny if they went to the same place.

There wasn't much of one so far as we know but there is now ! The bride's parents and her maid of honor ( or whatever she's called in other countries ) have a bond forever. She's  probably going to be their grandchildren's  godmother if they have one.  Every relationship starts somewhere. That is not a weird one. In Shamy's case the wedding supporters and potential godparents are a married couple. I have a relationship with  my godchildren's  grandparents from the wedding onwards if not before it, and I promise I'm not weird.  The Fowlers may be strange people, all three of them in their ways, that can't be denied, but weird is a bit strong unless it means something else across the pond. Of course, they may behave in a weird way when the episodes are forthcoming but that remains to be seen.

'Weird' is not that much of a strong word so I guess that may be part of our communication issue here. As it's been pointed out 'weird' is pretty much the show's modus operandi. It's not necessarily a bad thing cause 'weird' leads to a lot of funny situations.

Secondly, nobody is saying that there can't or shouldn't develop any sort of relationship between the Fowlers and the gang. The point is merely that it's surprising the writers do this right now and in the way hinted at SDCC. I  mean it's not like they wrote Penny an Mrs Fowler to be BFF material in the episode so after years and years of barely a glimpse where does this sudden interest come from? I'm curious to see what reason the writers came up with.

So am I.

As a guess it is just serendipity. They wanted parents for the wedding and a dream team showed up.

As an out-of-universe reason, totally! If I'd have these two at my disposal I'd use the opportunity as well. They hit the jackpot with this casting choice. ❤️

Definitely !   They mustn't let them go ! Now we've got them, though, I want an acceptable and exciting explanation of why it always sounded as though it was her mother alone who brought Amy up, terrified she would get into bad company to an extent that can indeed reasonably be called weird. As recently as S9,  Amy was referring only to 'my mother' or going to 'my mother's'  before mentioning 'my father' and 'my parents' in SS 10 and 11. I'd speculate her father had an occupation that took him away for long periods of time, perhaps like Leonard's father's did. Mr Fowler could perhaps be a research scientist who needed to work in extreme  and remote places. He's recently retired or semi-retired and come home. Hence his ability to be available to respond to Sheldon's pre-proposal not in a cool robotic voice, and play his part in the wedding. Having a meal with both of them present seemed to Sheldon enough of a novelty to make it worth his while making momma jokes.

I'm really hoping  the explanation is something interesting, not just that he was a quiet, cowed, nine-to-five everyday chap who stood by and let a paranoid wife restrict his daughter's life. I wouldn't mind if he turned out to have been a criminal genius who was caught by a genius detective and put away for a very long time. He could have been trapped on Mars or the moon  while on a secret inter-governmental mission.  Anything so long as it fits and turns out to have been worth the wait.

Hawking scene for sure. I don't care about the Meemaw scene.

YES! I was worried because they had done such a bad job with Randall and Meemaw but they knocked it out of the park with these two.

She just comes across to me as the stronger personality and he the more meek one.  I think they can make it acceptable without getting into the realm of exciting. He doesn't come across as adventurous to me. Just a nice enough little man who goes with the flow.

I fear you may be right, but I hope not. Going with the flow is condoning abuse, if abuse there is. Tolerating the way Amy was treated, if Amy's stories are true, is not the behaviour of a nice man. It will spoil my enjoyment and interfere with my suspension of disbelief if it turns out he was there all the time. I'll be very sad.

I can't imagine my father, for instance, who was unassertive in many ways, being from a generation where families with living fathers were not the norm and mothers handled all issues to do with the children anyway, letting my mother stop me appearing in a school play for the reasons Mrs Fowler gave. Nice fathers in my youth drove their daughters to Guide (aka Girl Scout) camps or picked them up from meetings on dark nights, and both parents supported fundraising efforts without calling their daughters whores.

I'd rather think Mrs Fowler's attitude was born of some sort of desperation with nobody to help calm her down.

If the sin closet wasn't that bad than this is nothing compated to Beverly (even if it were it'd still be less sevre than Beverly), yet no claim was made against Alfred when he showed up.

That's because Alfred was abroad working. The only excuse an abuse-tolerating parent can have is that he/she wasn't there at the time and knew nothing about it.

I agree. I'm sold at this point with the idea Amy's mother was the only in charge of her education thanks to her stronger personality, the poor man can barely say a word when she's around...Anyway, as awful as the "sin closet" was, I don't think it can be classified, strictly speaking, as abuse. I prefer to think at it as a joke gone wrong, there are many of those in TBBT history; the writers for sure didn't imagine that, after that, Amy's mom was going to be tainted forever for the fandom.

Again, as with Sheldon and George's issues, I think there may be another side to some of these stories of Amy's. Especially since she was so desperate for friends back when she said some of these things.

Perhaps you do not know how many parents are pulling girls out of Girl Scouting in the US because they say it is too liberal, based on a lot of things that aren't true sometimes.

Absolutely true. Alfred was inspired casting as well, by the way. I wish he'd come back. I think Sheldon and Amy could interact well with him.

Leonard mentioned his dad borrowing his hugging machine, and Beverly published books and maybe papers about her children and the way she treated them. She never hid it, and it's enough to watch her interact with Leonard for a few minutes to see there's something bad going on there. Knowing this Alfred should have care for his children and not go away all the time.

Anyway this is the Shamy thread. I agree the writers probably didn't intend for Amy's mother to come out as an abuser, they sometimes don't realize the implications of their jokes. They had Penny joke about an older man taking advantage of her when she was a teen presenting it as part of her being a wild teen...

I know this IG post was not tbbt related in a direct way but I just loved the way Mayim mentioned the tbbt as her and Jim's "darling litle sitcom", hehe! Big Bang Theory, we are so ready for the continuation of our Shamy adventures as married brilliant scientists couple! ❤

Only a few days before the first table read of the season, we made it through another hiatus, congrats to the (very few :( :( :( ) Shamies who resisted! I hope we'll get some spoilers, very curious about Shamy honeymoon. The little snippets we got from SDCC about it were very intriguing, both Sheldon and Amy get to pick a different place, I wonder where they want to go, and if one enjoys the the destination chosen by the other!

These two are so obviously really friends. It is so cute. But I don't think she meant just her and Jim's sitcom. I think she loves working with the whole cast.

The quoting system is messed up again. I didn't write the sentences you quoted and were assigned to me...odd! Anyway, pretty sure the original poster did understand the sense of Mayim's caption, she was just giving her post a Shamy/Majim flavour, so to speak...

Sure Mayim meant she loves working with all of them. I only took the chance of speaking about Shamy as it was a Majim friendship moment :)

I don’t know, but I could really picture them going to Europe. There are plenty of things for both of them to enjoy. The large hadron collider in Switzerland and lots of trains for Sheldon, history and romantic places for Amy. Anyway I want them to be happy, make lots of love, now that it is legal :sarcastic:and talk about super asymmetry anywhere they go. It’s their baby after all 😊

Aaaah.... Glad to be back here for the beginning of a brand new Shamy thread! New job's been keeping me busy for the past few months but it's great to return to Shamyland! As brilliant and beautiful as their wedding episode was, I can't wait to see them on their honeymoon nerding out about something random and just being them. Hope this season's gonna be filled with all the fun of season 10 and all the sweet, heartfelt moments of season 11. And I'm gonna be playing "spot the ring on Sheldon's finger" and freak out about the fact that this adorkable couple is now married. 😄

Bring it on writers!

unnamed (1).gif

And a very very happy birthday to a fabulous Shamy shipper @Sah. May this year bring you boatloads of joy and happiness. 💕
